  1. Do you think the no. of registered members logged in as at an all time high due to the number of smart phones that are permanently logged on? or can you work round that?
  2. A forum tends to represent a section of society. Sometimes you are just to busy to read and post. Sumer as that. When you look back through the forum using the search function, it would seem the prolific posters haven been pretty omnipresent from day one. Great job I say.
  3. Cheers, did do a search but I couldn't find anything specific.
  4. Clap! Benefits is a very small part of UK expenditure. Sensationalist nonsense once again.
  5. Roger that, what rope are you on? Have been using the wooden block, very impressed so far!
  6. My understanding was, in this case, the chain broke and a piece flew off and hit a chipper operator working at a lower level. Very sad.
  7. Had a women nip in between me and a roundabout once on a very short (200mtr) section of dual carriageway, I was slowing for the roundabout, she pulled in front and stamped on the brakes. I was in the local authority forestry tractor. Only just stopped, I thought I was going to kill her and her children. I was fuming, she broke down into tears. I think she realised what she had done. I think people see a slow moving vehicle and register it as just that, rather than slow to stop!
  8. After 5-6 years climbing on a VT I have got myself a SpiderJack. I have a Imori rope at the moment and a ART rope guide. It seems a little snatchy. I'm thinking a different rope would work better. The videos on YouTube describe rope choice as critical. What would the forum members recommend? Many thanks.
  9. Hi Chris, thanks for quoting me.. I am not saying I don't speed, I do. In my own mind on that occasion I believed my speed was appropriate and not reckless. I was however breaking the law.
  10. Perhaps that is designed to make idiots think twice? Most m/c accidents are on single carriage roads on a dry day, usually a Sunday with a single vehicle involved. Put simply, going into corners to fast. that's where education would help a large percentage of people.
  11. I think some people need to realise that a speed limit is just that. Not the speed that must be attained. Drive to the conditions and limits of visibility.
  12. Maybe, it's a good way to pee off contractors though when you work for a firm that constantly changes its payment terms from 30 to 60 to 90 days. Then when you complain and stop work it takes a further 9 months to get paid. We will never ever work for that shower again.
  13. Massive Lime, co-dominat stems and a split to reduce and brace. See what the weather does though eh!
  14. I hate gateway with a passion
  15. Anyone who has ever worked for Fountains has had a bad experience IMO.
  16. It has been proved that additional training reduces accident rates amongst motorcyclists.
  17. As it is now, by the police officer at the roadside.
  18. Oh I do hope so
  19. I would imagine you 'can' get that in anywhere! It's the resulting damage that might upset him lol
  20. Just to clarify, I am in now way condoning speeding in built up areas, each case should be looked at individually. What I would like to see is everyone having some form of advanced training every 3-4 years, not pass or fail, just an update.
  21. I agree, I drive around 40k a year. Got hit on the A5 doing 72 in a 60mph on a straight road, no side roads, no footpaths, dry day, bright day, 08:30 on a Sunday morning on my way south to help a friend who was suffering from depression. I was in a car, and was probably lucky not to have been caught going faster. Attended the course, had to endure a pathetic H&S fire safety briefing where we were told to muster by an Oak tree outside. After this we were told to identify ourselves. My speal started with informing the instructor it was a sycamore not an oak lol Anyway, I digress, the course itself wasn't that bad. It would seem the majority of offenders were caught in built up areas where they take a very dim view of speeding due to the fact that a small increase in speed has a massive effect on the casualty should you hit someone. As a IAM motorcycle rider I found the whole experience largely pointless, the instructor was clearly trying to use the statistics to prove his point. Having said all of this, I would rather sit throw that ***p than take the points.
  22. For that little tree? Are you serious? They would price themselves right out of the job for sure! If it wasn't safe to climb I would have felled it. If people let their trees get that bad then a little collateral damage has to be accepted
  23. Agreed
  24. Peter, I use Docs2Go for all of the above. There's not much I can't do on the go.
  25. Current first aid training products are not designed to meet the needs of a small industry like ours. End of story, full stop. As Pete McTree said, First Responder training is what is required. Coupled with regular un-planned training at the work site and what more can you do than that. I honestly can't see how any business small or large cannot justify a days money for two men to have a decent sized kit in the business. Now I am aware, we shall be getting one. I have lost count of the number of green boxes that have been ruined over the years.
