    Thanks greengui, no finish on it yet, just lightly sanded. It maybe some surface bar oil residue giving it some temporary lustre.

    I've done the router sled to true up small off cuts for bread boards. Works well and could easily be up scaled for wide boards. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Arbtalk mobile app

    If you expect to swap back to a regular bar often it may be simpler to get a quarter tip carving bar and run both set ups on lo pro off your original sprocket. You can get Oregon sculptor bars in longer lengths as well as GB bars. If you want to.buy the best you can get Cannon bars If you don't mind swapping out the sprocket every time you want to change bars hen get a dime tip, 1/4 sprocket and 1/4 chain.

    I'm trying to get a carving event off the ground in Southport and I'm on the hunt for potential suppliers for the logs. Several butts about 2ft diameter up to 8 ft long plus cord wood for speed carves. Sitka, larch, wrc kind of thing.     No problem I'm not familiar with the 181 either lol, 170/171 and 200/201 have the small C1 mount that most carving bars fit. 240,260 etc up to 660 take the bigger S1 mount. Cheers, Si

    I'm not familiar with husqvarna mounts but this should help you work out if your bar will be compatible with a 550 http://www.cannonbar.com/PDFs/SuperBarsFlyer.pdf

    You can get bar adapters so stihl bars will fit the smaller husky mounts, though having said that your bar would have the small stihl mount if it fits your 181 so it may not fit a larger stihl saw anyway??

    A solid nose bar will generate a lot more heat than a sprocket nose, I reckon this will be a factor in your issues. I don't know why Stihl don't make sprocket nosed bars over 3ft. If you can afford it I'd get a sugi hara one of RobD if you plan on doing a lot of milling with your saw.
