  2. Thanks a lot Gary, that's great to hear your impression of the day. I hope that impact was felt by most of those that came out to support us. The wood was lovely to carve and that made our experience much more enjoyable. We'll be in touch Gary 👍
  3. Hi Ian, yes sure whenever your free mate. I probably spend more time drinking tea than carving but you're more than welcome to hang out 😄
  4. Great photos Ian, it was over all too soon. Just enough time to finish, not enough time to chat! I know you won't want to think about that journey for a while but I'm working on a two or even three day affair next year 👍 Phil, don't know if anyone took pictures of the speed carves, everything was a blur by then lol. I'll post some of our pics when I get a chance.
  5. Thanks Kenty, shame I didn't get a mention but great none less 😃
  6. Haha thanks Russell, funny how you always sound better in your head. Carve Up The Coast is gearing up for the big day on Sunday. Logs arrived today thanks to Spuddog on here, cheers Gary👍 Gates open at 11am, Southport Pleasureland Marine Drive, Southport PR8 1RX
  7. Youtube, google images for visual references, practice drawing , that helps you see form and finally practice on your firewood first. that way you can still burn it if you don't like the end results. It's difficult to get any detail with a standard bar, are there any carvers near by? Once you get into it you'll be after a carving bar
  8. Sounds like a future serial killer in the making 😟
  9. Looks great Phil, nice work mate.
  10. Hi Phil, further to fb conversation, I would burn that with a plumbers gas torch. Mapp gas is the best as it burns hotter than propane. Then sand back to bring out the stripes. Can't tell what wood that is but as you may already know vinegar and wirewool react with tannin in wood and ebonizes it. if the wood is low in tannin you could add oak chips/dust to the mix or mashed up oak galls. I did some sunflower seeds a while back and they ebonized pretty good. Photo is pretty poor though:001_rolleyes:
  11. Looking forward to seeing you Ian, it will be knackering but great fun and over before we know it
  12. Thanks AcaciaRental, Yes we've some great carvers, it's looking to be a good crack:thumbup1:
  13. Thanks guys, it's all coming together now😊 Keep a look out for next year
  14. I'm working hard to make this a success so we can see it grow each year and have some international carvers join in the fun. Please like and share this to keep up with our news. Carving fans in the UK, this is a free family friendly event, come and support us and maybe come away with one of the finished carvings from the auction at the end of the day. Hope to see you there smile:001_smile: https://www.facebook.com/carveupthecoast https://www.facebook.com/events/1587521378197940/
  15. I like his attitude but too far for me
  16. Timber framers may have a solution for you rob, how do they fit windows into green oak frames?
  17. Nice one mate, good going in that time👍
  18. Lots of work in that Tom, excellent mate
  19. Thanks Kev, yeh I think the dog makes him look more realistic:001_smile:
