Thanks Bert, Yes mate, the budget didn't really cover buying in a log so I used oak offcuts that I had. The lion end was one block, the other end was one large book supporting the plank with three separate books glued on top. Worked out pretty well 😃

Prices ranged from about £500 to £1300 I think. There were some bargains to be had. A few were more expensive but didn't make the reserve.

Sounds like it just wasn't quite tight enough on the clamps, I've had a bit of movement in the past from using a chainsaw spanner. Got myself a ratchet spanner and that has cured it. That extra 1/4 turn really gripped the bar tight.
