  1. Rick, you could try emailing local primary schools
  2. Cheers Shaun, I've sent you an email mate.
  3. Thanks mate, looks like 😉 Yes chainsaw carved, power file, blowtorch and sandoflex to finish.
  4. Hi Shaun, yes got your pm mate, check your inbox
  5. Hi Ian, yes would be good to meet up, there's some excellent carvers again this year. Make some noise and I should hopefully spot you 😃
  6. Thanks Shaun, pm sent mate
  7. Trying to build up some stock for woodfest next week. Did a couple of owls and this guy.
  8. That's really nice Rick, are they not paying for it then? How many hours went into it and what are you happy charging per hr/day? Add on your expensenses and you will hopefully be close to a fair price. What's too scary? Is it the dragon? One option would be to rework it, maybe replace the back and carve something else?? If you just want it gone you could try ebay, collection only.
  9. Sounds interesting, is it similar to this http:// http://www.cedaroils.net/organic-wood-preservative-5gal.html
  10. Thanks a lot guys, lovely feedback is always appreciated 😉 Mikeh, there was some chisel work and a fair bit of sanding too but it's probably 95% saw.
  11. What 20" bar did you get, cannon ? Just picked up a bargain, Stihl 036 Q, put a 18" sugi toonie on it and it flies 😁
  12. Lol Ian far from it mate. Lost count of the hrs on this one 😏
  13. Thanks guys, yes Dave it won't be long 😁
  14. Cheers timber, it's burry oak mate.
  15. Finished this yesterday, I was going to wait until it was sited before posting but they now want to time the installation with a grand opening of the newly landscaped memorial garden in a few weeks. I'll probably add the in situ pics later
  16. I didn't mate, just not enough time to chill and chat. It's the one at top of your pic isnt it?
  17. The ms150 is a fine detail saw, use it with sugi hara R7 tip carving bar. It's a little under powered for a standard carving bar. You'll be better to get the 180/ 135 as your main detail saw.
  18. Both the 550&560 are ideal for roughing out, grunt is good for blocking out😉 and they're still light enough to use all day long. I use the Stihl equivalents. You maybe better off buying new, 170/1 aren't that dear and most of them on eBay sell for at least £100
  19. Hi rodeodog, what saws do you have? You can rough out with standard bars. 260/360 or equivalent kind of thing. For detail you're best having a saw dedicated to carving with 1/4 drive sprocket. Rear handled 201, or 170/180 depends on your budget or what you have already, husqvarna, echo etc so long as 35 cc ish. You'll need 1/4 sprocket and worm drive to run a dime tip bar and carving chain. Run the chain slack and away you go. Lots of other tools available but for starters, mapp gas burner and sando flex _ see Gustharts on a drill. These are my most used tools 😃
  20. Hehe, now you're talking 😋
  21. I like the feet, good job mate. To be accurate the wings should be much longer and bottom edge higher up, but having said that it's eye catching and has presence👍
