  1. My mate took his family on holiday this one time where the resort had a man-made beach. His daughter went for a dip and came back spitting and spluttering, complaining that the water was salty!
  2. Maltese death woodpeckers. An evil, but infrequent vistor to these shores. Beware!
  3. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpYNMQX41Gs]‪Castlemaine XXXX (Fishing) - 1980's UK Advert‬‏ - YouTube[/ame]
  4. "How did he lose his arm?" "In a fight." "Then bring me the winner!"
  5. The holes are already there. You just need to empty them.
  6. I've heard of scarves being draped or tied to gates as if they had been dropped by a walker and another walker had kindly picked it up and hung it so it would be easily found by the owner, but in actual fact it's a signal that there is livestock worth stealing in this field.
  7. I think elicokiz has it. Link
  8. Speaking as a non-arborist, in a similar situation if I felt there was a possibility of failure I would print off 2 copies of a letter stating my recommendations for what work needed doing and get the client to sign my copy to cover my arse. If I felt there was a very real risk of failure in the near future then I would call for a second opinion. I presume a TO is a council representative? A Tree Officer, perhaps? If immediate danger then fetch it down. I'd rather face an angry customer refusing payment than have an avoidable death on my conscience. Just my two penn'orth.

  10. How do you know they're fake?
  11. Please bear in mind I'm splitting with an axe, or wedges and a sledge hammer for trickier stuff. I've not had the good fortune to fall on some Sycamore yet so I'll bear that in mind for future reference.
  12. Thanks. I know the poem (I referred to it in an earlier post) and people seem to have varying opinions on it. It doesn't offer much in the way of information on splitting though!
  13. Don't know if you've got a Charlies store near you but I got a pair of Stihl type A trousers from my local store for IIRC £70.
  14. Getting even is no fun. Getting them back in such a way as to send a clear message that 'you really don't want to get into a p1ss1ng contest with me' is where it's at, baby!
  15. Aye, I've got plenty of Elm. As you say, it's a bugger to split but it does burn well. It's been standing dead for some years so it's well seasoned and as such it burns hot and quickly despite what the old poem says. Got some Beech, which splits beautifully but I haven't burnt any yet. Got a bit of Ash too, but I think I'll hang on to that if it's alright with you.
  16. What firewood wouldn't you touch? What is a bugger to split, a bugger to season and when burnt doesn't burn well or give off much heat? As a consumer, what I'm asking is what are the woods to avoid?
  17. They'll have gone in to phone up and report you to the authorities.
  18. I'm nowhere near to check on the pallets but I can provide the punch up. I've got that much barely-supressed anger just lately I need an outlet.
  19. Ah, no. Not good. I could see the tree has grown around something or developed some weird growth or fungus. Didn't twig it was something as simple as a rock. Mind you. looks like they didn't see it either until they got some sparks from the partial cut they made, I'm guessing.
  20. OK, as a non-aborist I'll bite. What am I supposed to be seeing here?
  21. I'm glad I don't live next door to someone like you.
