  1. Hmm, this thread has reminded me that our local RSPCA agent is also a fine looking woman. I must find a reason to call her out again...
  2. Couldn't get it off. I didn't want to thrash it too much. Yer man down the road reckons he can get the bits no problem. £30 to fix it he reckons. I'll go and see him Monday.
  3. Ah, I didn't think it would really work out. I had in mind something like a motorcycle lift which has a hydraulic ram but is powered by air to raise the ram. I wondered if there was a splitter that worked in a similar fashion. But obviously a bike weighs about a quarter of a ton and for splitting you want at least 5 tons so it's a non starter really. Especially with my tiny 25l compressor!
  4. I have just acquired a small compressor and I wondered if there is a log splitter that works off compressed air? TIA
  5. Have a look at Money Saving Expert: Credit Cards, Shopping, Bank Charges, Cheap Flights and more Specifically here and you can click through to a tool to compare what's best for you.
  6. Erm, how do I take the clutch off? I can't see anywhere to put a spanner or allen key etc? Is it an ordinary spanner or a special wrench of some kind? If I had a spare one kicking around I might have a go at fitting it though!
  7. I s'pose I could always fit a Scottoiler or similar.
  8. Bummer! So how do you get to the worm drive to check it?
  9. I have a G415AVS and it seems to have stopped oiling. I've drained out the oil and swilled it with petrol but still it won't oil. Can I blow straight through with compressed air or not? I've tried with an aerosol but it's either blocked or it just physically won't allow the oil through due to it's design. How do I fetch the clutch off to gain access to the oil pump? Can anyone please advise? Thanks in advance.
  10. It'll weaken the structure if you cut it off. Can you not reposition the chipper at all? Or perhaps fit something to it to deflect the chip slightly?
  11. Sandi Toksvig skinning an otter whilst soaking her feet in a steel drum half full of cheap whisky from Aldi and singing "Silver Machine"?
  12. Christ! They must be well seasoned by now!
  13. Shame it's not in Shropshire.
  14. Littering and fly-tippingis one thing guaranteed to get my blood up quickly. I had a run in with a bloke who threw his fag packet and something else out of his car window while in a SSSI where we had gone for a picnic. The first item out of the window got me fuming. When he threw the second I'd gone and was straight over to him and chucked them back in his car. He was threatening to send the boys round to my house and all sorts. Reckoned he could get my address from my car reg. All because he was too idle to take his cr4p home with him. See, I'm getting wound up now! Nothing ever came of it anyway. Best one though was someone dumped a Kawasaki Z200 down the lane from me. It had been in a crash and they aren't worth much in mint condition so it was uneconomical to repair. I claimed the bike and took it home. Once I got the logbook from DVLA I saw the previous owners address. Turns out he had actually driven past the scrapyard to dump it by us. Must get around to fixing that up...
  15. Ooh, is this the one where some joker tries to demolish a house by dropping some trees on it?
  16. How so? It's a very small river, more like a brook. It was nice and clear and free flowing a couple of years back. Now it's murky and sluggish. It's silting up and starting to clog up with weeds due to the reduced flow rate. Apparently the water downstream is extracted for Wolverhampton. It'll be interesting next time theres a big flood. There'll be all kinds of stuff collecting and backing up at the bridge.
  17. TBH I can't remember. We cleared the lane ourselves to make it passable, as I did this morning, but as for who got rid of the limb in the river last time I'm not sure. It's not a navigable river at all. Especially with all these trees falling in it! There's around 8 -10 trees in it within about half a mile each side of the bridge. Like I said, the landowners aren't interested in doing anything unless they're forced to. The one that fell this morning isn't even the closest to the bridge, there are 3 or 4 nearer ones that could potentially drop on someones head if they feel like it. My concern, apart from the danger to people if another should fall, is how many knocks the bridge can sustain? If the bridge gets damaged and put out of action then it's going to make for interesting times.
  18. Following on from this thread the tree in question is a Crack Willow. It is situated alongside a river and near a bridge which is part of a B.O.A.T. Now this limb it has shed has fallen across and into the river and also on to the bridge thus blocking traffic. I know that the council or the Highways authority have a duty to maintain the lane commensurate with it's use but I'm led to believe bridges are not their responsibility. The local water authority perhaps? The other thing is that there are a few trees that have fallen into the river from both sides of the river (different landowners) which aren't helping the flow of water. Obviously the first port of call would be the landowners but I know that one is not interested in fetching his trees out of the water, so who is responsible for keeping the river clear? This is the second large limb the tree has dumped across the river and bridge in 5 years.
  19. Just been and had a look. Looks like I'm going to be late in tomorrow. I could scrape past on the bike but in the spirit of good neighbourliness I supposed I'd best make the lane passable for others.
  20. a tree falling, or at least a large branch anyway. Most likely the crack willow alongside the lane. Oh I do hope it's not preventing me from going in to work in the morning...
  21. I don't wear gloves to load mine so I guess wearing a pair of welding gloves should offer much better protection.
