  1. Nice job, always nice when something like that is down safely, and in the right place. What a recommendation at the end!
  2. Mmmm, would be nice to give the 660 a big break! See how much it is next sunday!
  3. Should be a section and pole number on it too, if you have these it might speed things up.
  4. Think i'll wade in here. I personally don't understand how these six week courses or what not produce people who think they are the completed arb. I passed my cs30 in 2000 and worked the ground and fed the chipper till i did my climbing etc in 2004. What I can't work out is how people who have handled a chainsaw on the ground for a week are expected to be proficient enough with it to operate it off the ground in close proximity to their life line. Then after that they finish college they set out on their own. They can only teach you so much in a short period, I would not have had a clue on technical rigging pruning etc straight after my courses, i really do believe you can only learn that working with someone experienced and willing to teach you. I think if people realised that the cs etc is only the most basic qual and it's the experience that will really teach you. After ten years on and off for the same firm, I went out on my own last year, and it's not at all easy getting enough work, especially when competing against people with no insurance, overheads etc. I'm not blaming anyone for ambition, but in my opinion it should be experience first, business set up later!
  5. Yep, provided your working under a level three to sign your book of course.
  6. Depending on your height you might need extra length legs, an option I had before too.
  7. I had the sharpener problem too. I can get the axe grand though! Bizarre!
  8. As far as i'm aware one handed use is only recommended when work posistioning does not allow for two handed use. Having had eight stitches on my wrist from a top handle I can speak from experience and say treat with maximum respect!
  9. On a lime, me thinks B! If it is a choice between a 'proper' pollard or removal, surely it is favourable to pollard? Plus five to ten years you get another go. Yipee!
  10. I work with two petzl single hand ascenders held together as above, but with a mallion and then rope attachment to harness. Grand job! Make sure to back them up to prevent the rope coming out should the cam get knocked open by a twig, ivy etc etc!
  11. Forestry service is the best bet I think. Not sure how it all works with them but i'm sure a google will get you started for a phone number.
  12. I run an 02 crewcab transit, and from this years accounts it's prob costing close to 70p a mile to run. Towing and full loads are very hard on everything, not just fuel. Hard to say for a figure, as i'm sure you don't want to stick the arm in, but you don't want to end up with less than if you turned up and met on site as normal. I too have this exact problem!
  13. Another 12, excellent effort with that Joe, very amusing!
  14. Hi mate, Prob best to do a search as there have been loads of questions on a similar subject recently. Really you need to work out how long it will take YOU, not some one else, then add your time, overheads, groundy, travel etc, and then a little incase things go wrong and you wont be far off. Pics would help if you want a rough idea on time, but like most on here, I wouldn't price a job from a picture! Hope this helps.
  15. I was watching it too, £200 was the starting price and it was making about £350 on sunday morning from memory. I think they pulled the auction.
  16. Nice work, nice video, muchos respect!
  17. See it's down. Check the original link, page 5.
  18. That's brilliant! Was it meant to be funny? I agree with wooded, number and the ladder is cracker. Why leave the big saw half way up the tree too? Mega!
  19. Look for another good one called 'Dromore viaduct'. Quite local to me and equally as mad. Sorry don't know how to imbed you tube links.
  20. I'd say by the description it's humdrum then. As I say, in my head it probably has more to do with me making value of my £95. Haha. Thanks for the messages of support, been hiding in the house because everyone I know smokes, so thought i'd stay home to remove the temptation!
  21. Lost me, what do you mean 'whaz it NLP type? or just a humdrum?'
  22. Basically a half hour hynosis session, he makes you wear goggles for 'light therapy' and ear phones which he talks to you through for the half hour. Then you get dispatched home with a cd which you must listen to before bed every night for a month, so in effect another 30 odd sessions. Not sure it really works, but more acts as a catalyst for the whole thing, it was £95 too, so it had bloomin better work! Still would love a smoke and not being busy isn't helping! Great job to everyone who has quit, can't wait till I have longer over me to see if I really have, if that makes sense!
