  1. Erm, actually it is! (Well, sort of anyway...) As a guest in this country the language fascinates me, and I take great pride in being "not that bad" at it... Wikipedia: "The usual plural in English is "octopuses" (pronounced /ˈɒktəpʊsɪz/), but the Greek plural form "octopodes" (pronounced /ɒkˈtɒpədiːz/) is sometimes used, though less frequently than in the past.[47] The form "octopi", as if the word were a Latin second-declension noun, is generally considered incorrect,[42][47][48][49][50][51] but is in fact used, so that it is registered by the descriptivist Merriam-Webster 11th Collegiate Dictionary, which lists "octopuses" and "octopi", in that order, and Webster's New World College Dictionary, which lists plurals in the order: "octopuses", "octopi", and "octopodes". The Oxford English Dictionary (2008 Draft Revision)[52] also lists "octopuses", "octopi", and "octopodes", in that order, labelling "octopodes" as rare and noting that "octopi" derives from the misapprehension that octōpus is a second-declension Latin noun and stating that, if the word were native to Latin, it would be third declension octōpēs (plural: octōpedes) after the pattern of pēs ("foot", plural pedēs).[53] "
  2. Apologies, I posted a picture to see if I could, (having an argument with the app.....) but now I can't delete it! Sorry
  3. Unfortunately, you're wrong. That was how the old policy was supposed to work. The new policy does not allow for sending any stihl products, full stop!
  4. I just put a new Woodburner in a yurt so no building regs etc to worry about. I went and got a single 6m length of 2mm thick 154dia T304 stainless. Super strong, will never wear/rust, easy to weld and being one piece it needs no structural support of any sort.
  5. Trees were part of a larger group, some severe weather removed surrounding trees and lower branches of these remaining ones, reaction growth shaped the trees thus? I'm far too young and youthful to have been aware in 1983 though...
  6. Can't post a link for some reason (app freezes when I try?) But here's the URL. http://www.ethicalwares.com/vegan-vegetarian-non-leather-footwear/safety-footwear-vegan-vegetarian-non-leather/vegan-chainsaw-non-leather-black-boots.html
  7. It's not a requirement to carry an ID, but: An establishment such as a supermarket (or indeed a scrap yard) may (and in this case must) refuse to trade with you if you cannot provide one. For example if I were to buy a bottle of whisky at the local, they'd have to ask me for my if on account of my youthful looks (honestly, I look that young....) even though I have been of legal drinking age for a while. If I cannot produce one, they must refuse to sell. So though it is not a legal requirement to carry one always, it can be legally required to produce one.
  8. I only stake when needed if there's any weaknesses or wobbliness. Then at the end of the day I stake maybe every 10ft or so just to be sure, after which it'll take some serious battering. Then at the end of the hedge I stake the lot, moving the earlier stakes out if needed or cutting them right short if they're "strategically essential" to hold a particular bit. I find this gives me the nicest line, especially as it's not often dead-straight but weaving around trees, stiles and such like.
  9. A bit random, but some people were wondering the following: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jofNR_WkoCE]Ylvis - The Fox (What Does the Fox Say?) [Official music video HD] - YouTube[/ame]
  10. Did it need much welding?
  11. I pay 60p plus vat, delivered on site.
  12. The diesel is a BMW engine and rather good, mine has done over 230k now with only minor issues. The first and most important thing to check is the "plenum chamber" On the drivers side, take the little grill off near the windscreen that hides the brake fluid reservoir. Look down the void towards where you'd expect the exhaust to run and watch for any signs of water. The chamber holds the main ECU and it's drain-holes are known to get blocked with leaves etc causing a drowned ECU=dead car. If there's any moisture, you need to clear the drain holes. (Googling or looking on the dedicated 75 forums will give you a step-by-step) You cannot change the light switch easily as it's part of the cars security system and matched to the keys, main ECU, BCU, and immobiliser...
  13. It is on a similar base to that that in the Netherlands it is effectively compulsory for employers to supply their employees with alkalyte fuel. It's quite odd that HSE allow people to supply their employees with, and to be exposed to these known harmful substances without any form of protection whilst there is more than one real alternative available...
  14. I know capping it off would be really stupid.... How do you know your boiler is still ok after running it disconnected for two years? Do you pressure test it regularly? I run a couple of Rayburn cookers with back boilers disconnected but have no intention of using them in the future. This hunter however has so much water-heating capacity that I don't want to risk ruining it as it may come in handy some time.
  15. Cheers Pete  How are you doing? Our yurt is 24ft, built very tall and not insulated. I need it to be acceptably warm ish for the odd weekend throughout winter for courses.
  16. Just had a look, the sides and back are the back-boiler. They're not a separate inset type but an integral part of the stove....
  17. Hi guys, I bought a second hand hunter herald 14 last week. I'd not seen it or any pictures and when I went to collect it I found it has a wraparound boiler. I don't need the boiler right now and was wondering about the best way not to ruin it so I could plumb it in at a later date. I thought about filling it with dry sand or vermiculite? It looks quite hard to remove and I'm on a very tight budget. It's to go in a yurt so no worrying about building regs or stuff like that.
  18. True, I was referring to the fact that even though he'd "earned" this money (presumably) without paying tax, as long as he's a uk tax payer he's eligible for gift aid. (As it seems unlikely that he'd have claimed gift aid to a total of his tax bill if he doesn't know what gift aids is or how it works?)
  19. Hmm, If you're a uk tax payer, your donation is eligible for "gift aid". Which is where the charity receives a little more money. The government pays the charity the money they'd have received in tax when you earned it. Wether or not you actually paid income tax over the exact money you donated isn't relevant. Is the only explanation I can think of? Great effort Predator
  20. Yew.?
  21. Well, nearly ready, been packing and sorting all our kit for the support boat. Got a handheld GPS for tracking measuring and navigating (but mainly for the love of gadgetry... Got a bag of food to last a week (me and my brother could eat a fair bit..) Got a barrel of dry clothes for swimmer and rowers. Got looooaaaads of other stuff but most importantly....... Got Viking helmet-hats for me and my brother:thumbup: Attached is a pic from earlier from the press fotoshoot thingie, apologies for the quality (or lack thereof...) I'll try and keep this updated as the day goes by tomorrow, we're off at 8.
  22. I say you spam.......
  23. Less than ten minutes to go....
