  1. I thought XL was 3cm longer...didn't seem enough advantage to justify extra $$
  2. Rarely use a maul after buying X27 a couple of years ago. In fact I find it so efficient I bought a X17 that gets far more use. Green Oak rounds at the minute... no trouble all day with X17 until they get knotty...bring out the X27 Bingo! :-)
  3. Hi Lazurus... Similar ... I was following your chilling thread as I'd bought a chinese mill. I also have a Huztl MS660 kit attached to it. These saws were Chinese built top-handles. I thought a better go than make a MS020 Huztl kit..... Thanks Bob
  4. Has anyone got an update on this? I've finally started to look at something like this for where the ms023 is too big/unweildy. Cheers Bob
  5. Always reminds me of....
  6. Not entirely true.... The "test" bores in Reigate and Leith Hill might...or might not be responsible for the 12 earthquakes felt in the village of Newdigate since April. Leith Hill an AONB Grrrr! affects everyone
  7. Didn't know it wasn't good to mill. Thanks FWIW... I have had some as firewood and would say that it's ok...average.... It isn't as good as regular oak , it does take a while to dry. The woodland seating / sculpture seems a nice idea.
  8. Good man! for doing your bit. Been doing mine since I started riding bikes @16.... 75+ in the bin. including plasma. Never know when you might need it. Never have. Never want to.
  9. It isn't localised to Wales....I live 6 miles from Gatwick and a the SatNav uses the farm drive we live on as a cut through.... It has only ever been a continuous road before satellites were invented. Farmer has Dead End signs up but still the Airport Taxis hammer down the drive and sheepishly come back. It isn't the only one round here. I think it's a lot to do with the upload from OS into the SatNav database. They just didn't mark restrictions or blockages well and so they've not been identified. Personally, use it for getting from town to town and the rest is looked up in advance using google maps/street view / local directions. IMO nothing beats driving around with your eyes open looking at local markers.
  10. It looks a smashing set-up. Apologies for the silly question (s): Is the reservoir for chain oil? Is it gravity fed? and lastly why not use the oil feed holes in the bar? The pictures are good. I just couldn't make that bit out.
  11. Hi Steve, Great but there is still a difference between the amount indicated and amount displayed.
  12. Hi Steve, Not sure if it is a problem or not. Browsing Arbtrader Classifieds (which I like very much) and am a bit offput by sections saying they have miore adverts than they actually display. It also changes with the wind. e.g Arb Equipment...said 10 adverts (displays 7) @ 08:54 and after a refresh says 5 and displays 2 @ 08:56 Is it me? Cheers Bob
  13. I'd love to know what the Stihl definition of "working hours 368.4 " is. Supposing it was a actual time in use or a Tacho generated hour count like Ag plant. Using the Ag value of 1hr-time at 1500 rpm gives i.e. 25 revs per second. 368.4hrs = 1326240 seconds x 25 revs = 33,156,000 revs of the engine.....now that is impressive. Alternatively 368.4hrs = 22104 minutes if you are revving the saw at an average of 1/2 it's revs for that time say 5500revs pm = 121,572,000 blimey! If they made cars (or Bikes) I'd buy Stihl...... :-)
  14. I have had to order new baffle plates in the past for My Jotul F100. I was given a 3-4 week turn around. Seemed fair as it isn't a UK manufactured item. I feel the same way about Jap M/Cycle spares...i.e. I don't expect them to keep a massive UK stock of (in my case Old -vintage?- spares) However a UK manufactured item, it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect a week or two...max dependant on the exclusivity of the item. I mean I can get a next day (or 2-day) service on my Worcester Bosch Oil Combi on most parts. Is that what you were after? or should I change my location to la la land? :-)

  16. Sorry to butt in: I built my Huztl over last Christmas whilst following Spuds advice on what to look out for. 98% Chinese it has a OEM brake band and spur drive circlip plus a few missing torx bits for bumper spikes. Put about 4 tanks of fuel through it without issue. I was hoping to put it on the mill but haven't had anything worthy of milling this year. That'll be the true test. Also running closer to 25:1 Oil mixture as specified on the Chinese engines..... Bob
  17. Plus....the people on this Forum are not the real reason for the "wet wood" problem. The misinformed wood burner who picks up and burns any old sh1t or the fly by night casual log merchants who sell freshly felled "seasoned" conifer aren't going to know, or care a jot about this. Then as the guidelines carefully avoid kiln dried forecourt cr@p it seems another way to stifle a minority of the marketplace. Stinks! #rantover
  18. I rate them.had 2 pairs of the bib/brace trousers. Hard wearing. Only downside was they were a tad warm this summer.
  19. I do get you...but then If you still stick with re-building and repairing old saws ...you'd still be running stuff without chain brakes, AV or electronic ignition. There has to be progress and in some cases regress (Yes we've done something wrong/doesn't work/isprone to failure) or where would we be?
  20. Sorry, had to comment...I have the X27 and it is perfect and so why would you change or get another axe??? unless you need two, of course! Then ...Woodworks is absolutely correct.. For "Display" reasons the Gransfors is by far the more attractive (? ?) axe. Bob
  21. Please can you post ... Price ? location?
  22. Blimey! £100 Still reeling at £100 a load. Glad the stuff I but is for me and mine. I'd find it hard to buy in at that price.
  23. Haven't done sandwiches for years as eating at Work isn't a nice ... (rats/pigeons) so even with washed hands i'd prefer to eat something with a fork. Pasta of choice and basil pesto or chilli pesto Hot or cold makes no diff. Normally prepared night before takes 10 mins
  24. I'm Jealous. Always thought they'd be a more practical mini-mog as it had VW power. Love to see pics and hear progress.
