  1. Blimey. That's brilliant. Many thanks for the effort. Greatly appreciated. Bob
  2. Thanks for that. I had made a few calculations based on 650kg. I just don't want to under do it too much or I'll not be able to handle it. Thanks Bob
  3. Anyone have any ideas? I've calculated the volumes of a load of sticks and was wondering how I could estimate their weight. per stick or as a load. I've found a site that says Ash goes 650kgs per metre cube (seasoned) I was looking at a load of semi-seasoned sweet chestnut. Bob
  4. Thanks for all the replies. I guess I knew the answer but as I had loads of 230 consumables that would be no good on a 241,261. Thanks for the husky advice, without wanting to incite war. Like my stihl and have good dealer and parts access. Bob
  5. Ok my last 230 has lasted 5 years before becoming unreliable. Beyond economic repair according to my local dealer. My previous saw lasted 11years before I killed it by messing with the mixture. My question is....should I be looking at a Pro saw (241) or was I just unlucky with my last one? They get used all weekend during the summer cutting logs. Occasionally during the week if the weather is good. Light use during the winter. I only use Stihl oil and look after the saws...they aren't thrown around, but cleaned and checked before they are put away. Bob
  6. Any of our whippets would bust a gut to chasea cat, their own...are part of the pack and get pack benefits. shared space by the stove. shared food. shared bed. shared walks. makes me laugh as the cats stroll alongside the dogs almost taunting the neighbours cats to come out.. bob
  7. Here are my 2. Ruby Whippet JR cross and Daisy the Whippet
  8. 19. Oh dear. Family and friends keep telling me I'm obsessed. He says safely from his log fortress...... Bob
  9. Yes I got it. The Times normally give a well balanced view and this seems to have fallen heavily into the "scare mongering" camp. Bob
  10. Hi Everyone, Not good news. Article says Wood Stoves are as bad as Diesel. I have tried to attach it for you to read. Bob
  11. Hi everyone, I see trailers loaded with lengths off FC woodland. Does it all go for firewood or are the lengths cut for another reason? Pulp, chip? A bit random but a question I have had nagging at me for ages. Bob
  12. A waster? waster time waster space ;-) Bob
  13. Forest Fence | Jacksons Fencing Straight of the web. "Forest" fence 1m high by 50m roll is about £69 Here is a link.
  14. Yes. It was a tie-up between Ford and Mazda. Had 2. Bob
  15. Cheers Stubby. That makes sense. I had it in head (motorbikes) that it was like changing gear ratios. Bob
  16. Hi, If I change the bar on my STIHL from an 11tooth sprocket to a 10tooth jobbie how will it affect the saws performance? I always use official parts and the saw has the 10tooth bar listed as an option.... Bob
  17. Got a Fiskars X27 just recently after reading all the reviews on here. For years i've used axes , mauls, grenades... but now there is no going back. Seriously, if you are splitting all day there is no other choice. Any maul or cheaper axe will work but nowhere near as effortlessly. If you want to get an axe from screwfix and then save for a Fiskars. You can still use the axe when you think there might be nails...etc. Fiskars all the way. I'm a convert. Bob
  18. Hi Everyone, Has anyone got a couple ( 2 or 3) vented bags they wouldn't mind selling? I don't need loads but wanted to give them a go and didn't want to buy 15 at a time. I'd be very happy to use second had ones. I'm not that fussy. :-) Cheers. Bob Dorking - Newdigate
  19. Hi Yaffle I have these in the pile. Been on the ground at least a year. Maybe a bit too big? 4inch by 3ft 5 inch by 4ft and 8inch by 2 ft Bob Near Dorking Surrey...
  20. I hope I'm not too far off the pace, but I have cut smaller pieces and split when they are green if you are burning. Let it season too much and the chain has to work harder than I like. Bob
  21. I bought a cheap Galvainsed Chillington one from WICKES about 4 years ago for around £30. Seems to have lasted ok and is battered from being overloaded too many times. I bought the Mrs one of the twin wheel jobbies of ebay for mucking out, but the bucket is so huge that I can't shift it when it's properly full. Mind you I'm not to sure about it being too suitable as the bucket is plastic. Ok for GG poo but maybe not 150kg of logs.... Like this... TWIN WHEEL WHEELBARROW 200 LITRE - IDEAL FOR MULTI HORSE OWNERS!!! | eBay Bob
  22. Hi Chalky, I'm sure it will sell. I burn a bit of sweet chestnut in the stove alongside whatever else I have. It's ok. I would have thought you'd get interest if it was any good for the fencing teams. Nothing beats a nice split chestnut fence. Bob
  23. Hi Rover, Agreed. I've seen the Tyre method a few times on here and thought how simple and effective. Plus low cost...£0 Bob
  24. Hi All, I saw this and thought it was up alongside the paper roll (coat hanger) invention that featured recently. Firewood log splitting with maul / axe / hatchet made easy | London | Gumtree A bargain at £18? Bob
