  1. They do exist. Big shout out (although he's not on here) to Pete Fordham MBE. Pete is the woodland warden for the Suffolk Wildlife Trust. He is so mad about woodland that he comes and helps me for free on his days off from Bradfield Woods! If anyone is in or around Suffolk it's well worth paying Bradfield Woods a visit. Continually managed as coppice since the 1200's. Marvellous place, and the inspiration for me to blag my way into woodland management.
  2. Well spotted that man! £50 +VAT per ton roadside.
  3. Also available well seasoned Ash and Birch 3m cordwood. Nice processor size. £50 +VAT roadside. South Suffolk.
  4. Thanks for your enquiry. I have someone coming to have a look but if they don't want it I'll let you know. All the best, TVI
  5. I have a positively negative reaction to almost all batteries. Mrs Idiot suggested I try AA's. Turned out just to be a bunch of stubbly men talking about methylated spirits, No help whatsoever.
  6. What a fantastic idea! Unfortunately I have a pathological fear of batteries. That being said, the dramatic increase in efficiency that the bread knife would bring might well enable me to employ a well qualified 12 volt technician to handle the changeovers. Exciting times!
  7. You go anywhere near my misses sunshine, and I'll give you two blind eyes!
  8. Yes indeed Ti. My aim however is to continually upskill. By the time I'm 40 my intention is to introduce the chainsaw to my operation. I spend a fortune on mini hacksaw blades and they're pretty slow going, especially on the larger Oaks.
  9. Oh dear! Must be a right pain in the @rse. :vroam:
  10. I made a decision long ago never to let a startling lack of ability rain on the parade of enthusiasm.
  11. Almost certainly one of Felix's. I tend not to produce hinges, more a ligninous reinterpretation of the London shard!
  12. What do you recommend, smearing it on the piles?
  13. I have available a couple of lorry loads of Aspen. 3mtr lengths, diameters range from around 6" to 18". Some have the dreaded butt rot but most are clean. 'Free' to a good home (likes eating out, no pets). Buyer to cover extraction and delivery cost. I'm not looking to make anything out of it. Viewing recommended. TVI.
  14. Blimey, where to start! On a professional level: (thus far) Logan Felix Agg221 CHC Farmer Ben Essex log man LewisB MGS Landscapes Hertswood Tcf engineering Paul Smith Eggs (by proxy) Daniel Jiggins On a personal level: Aspenarb Stubby (For laughing at my crappy jokes.) On a spiritual level: New guy ti (For accepting my godless ramblings with grace and good humour) It is fair to say that the majority of my business connections have come from, or are associated with, Arbtalk. As well as being good fun it provides a hugely beneficial network which in my case is helping to keep our neglected woodlands managed. What could make it even better? From my perspective as a woodsman, some more representation from the Forestry Commission, and dare I say it, an agent or two with an inclusive approach to help match landowners with those who want to nurture their woods and trees. Maybe this will come in time. A big mendip style 😸% to Steve.
  15. Do you mean the self billeting tree? I might have to patent that!
  16. They are all now crippled with back pain, but I did cook them a nice BBQ:001_smile:
  17. If it makes you feel any better, I did have to drag myself out of bed to turn the heating down as I was getting far too warm and toasty.
  18. Yup, I decided to give today a miss. Being self employed there is always that unreasonable feeling of guilt. But today it was all about self preservation.
  19. Absolutely Jon. Plus it's hard to keep a firm footing with 60mph gusts hitting my boot top flanges. Must get a new design made up. It's not unusual to get back to the yurt six inches taller than when I left due to their funneling effect on the chainsaw chips.
  20. I usually just ignore the wind and carry on regardless Jon, but today I gave the woods a miss. Not clever felling in these conditions!
  21. I did have a sneaky peek actually: Two tins of caviar, a kilo of truffles, one bottle of babysham and a birdseye potato waffle.
  22. Indeed it is. You then put on 5% to the end user, assuming you are VAT registered yourself.
  23. This log was just a little too mighty for my log arch, and wouldn't have fitted on the Mizer without cutting down first anyway. Also the client is a charity and pretty cash strapped. They couldn't afford to pay the two sawyers who operate the mill. They get my time and the Oak in return for hard 'voluntary'labour at the wood and are only paying actual money for the milling.
  24. Alec will clarify but I think about 3 5ltr bottles of aspen.
