    I approached the Growi one and very quickly spun around and went in search of something less ridiculous. The X blade in the Growi was about 4ft tall! The feed conveyor had malfunctioned and the staff were frantically delving into the bowels of the beast as it merrily chomped perfectly good logs into pulp. There were many very cool processors at the APF, but after making a point of watching as many of them in operation as possible I was left thinking that none of them had a significant advantage (for a small enterprise) over a £2000 splitter and circular saw set up.

    The police are pretty sure it was humans eggs. No paw prints on the transit doors.

    There's a gang trawling the Hadleigh area in Suffolk at the moment. Had my saw stolen from my van last night. Apparently several other transits got hit. No forced entry. The police think the thieves have a device that activates the central locking on older transits. The police woman dusting for prints commented that they had left the inside of my van a right mess!

    Yes, startlingly efficient customer service! Coincidentally, Daniel turned out to be the chap that used to fix my chainsaws many moons ago. Not content with giving me 5 hours of his time patiently explaining the mind boggling world of massive mulchers to a man who views a chainsaw as a high impact machine, he has also offered me free use of his personal timber trailer whenever I want for free! There are also some other potential exciting plottings on the horizon! Top marks Kingwell:thumbup: Thus far the experience has been superb.

    Yup, that's the sort of thing I'm looking at. Just got to find a way to convince myself that it's low impact! I would obviously go through first and salvage any usable resource.

    Talking of low impact, I had an excellent woodland ramble with Daniel from Kingwell yesterday, talking about their enormous tree eating machines. What a thoroughly nice chap Daniel is. Thanks to all those who suggested them as a good option, and to those with other advice/suggestions. :thumbup:

    Yikes! That sounds terrifying! I think I need to go through first with a mulcher as I need it to dig down a bit to take out some ruts, but your mammoth chopper (!) sounds like a good bet for subsequent ride margin cuts. Do you have a day rate for man and machine?

    What on earth is a whoppa choppa? There is certainly plenty of work. What is the cutting mechanism and what is it capable of? How big is the tractor?

    A very capable looking machine Goaty, possibly a smidgen under powered. Another issue is that no-one will supply me with an 8 mile lead. I could strap the 5kva genny to my back again, but last time I got a bit sweaty:thumbdown:

    Does anyone have, or know anyone with a really big forestry mulcher that they hire out with operator in East Anglia? I know people with robotic mulchers, but really need a big purpose built tracked machine or a large reverse drive fendt or similar. I've got a substantial ride maintenance/creation programme coming up in South Suffolk. Many thanks TVI.

    Hmm, interesting. Would the ferretic stainless steel be immune to the anaerobic surface stripping that Openspaceman spoke about? Are there engineers about who are used to working with it?

    Excuse my ignorance, but what are the constraints on making an Exeter style retort from cast iron? Would it be too difficult/too expensive? Presumably it would have to be non-mobile due to the weight?
