  1. Thanks Marko, I'll give WD40 a try too. Is it expensive to have them professionally sharpened? Anyone other than Alec had success sharpening their own? Alec is very clever, I am not.
  2. Makes sense. Most of the wood I cut is Ash. I'll try putting some freshly felled other stuff through.
  3. Thanks Alec, Sounds like you and Beau may be touching on similar things. Are you coming over for the retort gas analysis? Perhaps I could show you the saw at the same time?
  4. Hmm, interesting! The blade has done about 200 cube since new so may be time for some tlc. Excuse my idiocy, but by re-tipping do you mean sharpening or do they literally put a new tip on the teeth?
  5. Thanks John, A three day in depth demonstration on the finer points of brush cutter throttle management would be just the ticket, and would pretty much finish off my bramble management for the season!
  6. Generally somewhere in between, so unseasoned I guess.
  7. Petrol is a good shout, thanks. Presumably if I use two stroke it might help give a bit of lubrication too?
  8. I've noticed that my pto powered circular saw is not cutting brilliantly although the teeth are still pretty sharp. Small diameter logs are fine but there seems to be a lot of friction on anything over 6 inch. I'm wondering if this may be caused by a thin layer of sap/pitch that has built up on the faces of the saw blade. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, can you recommend a good way of cleaning the blade- preferably whilst still attached? Many thanks, TVI
  9. Thanks for all the advice folks, and the kind offer of a loan Felix. Not too keen on buying an older Stihl as the previous owner may have treated it even worse than I appear to have treated mine. Think I will probably go for the same machine again but be anally careful with it in terms of oil choice and throttle control. Turning it down a bit on the 'h' screw sounds like a sensible idea too. The import only husky's look very good, but the advantage of buying the same machine is that I will have plenty of spare parts. Thanks again for all your thoughts:thumbup: TVI.
  10. Good question! Always use the husky xp oil except when the brush cutter broke I had run out and used a stihl red one shot I've had hanging around for ages. Do you think this could have been significant?
  11. Hi all, I'm after some advice. I recently killed my second husky 545 through overheating. They do have a hard life, not used regularly but they are asked to clear very dense bramble and small saplings with a mulching blade and I have tended to keep them at pretty constant full revs. I need to replace the machine but want to avoid having the same issue again. Would you recommend the same machine but with exercising more thoughtful throttle control. Or is there a more robust machine out there less susceptible to overheating? Anyone with much experience of 4 stroke or backpack models? Without wishing to start a fight, I have been warned off modern Stihl machines because of a spate of clutch problems. Many thanks, TVI
  12. The only way a 'scientist' can hold an intelligent design belief position is by not applying science to it.
  13. Holy crap Bob! I think I've found the mole. One of those fig roles is definitely an imposter!
  14. But then who be the Ogre? This makes no sense.
  15. His name is an anagram of Egg Man Or Ogre. Not sure if this is helpful information?
  16. If it helps Alec you could buy them through me. I am VAT registered.
  17. Sorry to hear that Lupus. Were they taken out of a vehicle?
  18. Sums up my experience over the past couple of weeks. My local hospital have been frighteningly negligent. My Dad would very likely now be dead if he'd been left in their 'care'. Addenbrookes hospital on the other hand, fantastically brilliant. Literally life saving and humble enough to listen to the concerns of family.
  19. What would you be using the loader for? I went for a compromise position with my 50hp reverse drive alpine and bought a second hand 3 point linkage forklift mast. They are cheap, a doddle to attach and remove, stable and can lift more than a loader as the weight is close in. Best purchase I have ever made for shifting things around but obviously not much use if you are planning on bucket work.
  20. Quite so Gary. Felix was obviously not brought up proper like.
