Nubile virgin pole dancers. Seriously though, I went to a demo of the Lucas Mill at Fuelwood yesterday. It was brilliant because alongside the two demo mills they had an embarrassment of all sorts of other firewood and forestry machines to see and try out at all price ranges. Seeing at least a few machines that were vaguely affordable for the small scale operator was a real bonus. This made my trip so much more worthwhile. Obviously Fuelwood have all this kit already on site, but if you could attract a handfull of other dealers with different types of machine it would make me more likely to travel longer distances.

Must be me old mate Brian Medusa. Crazy hair as I remember, and always got a bit frisky after a couple of shandy's. Brian was also instrumental in the discovery that Amanita muscaria can be used as a freely foraged alternative to rohypnol. Didn't know you two were 'acquainted' Geoff. -
Good shout! I like the look of those too! Cue the endless mental torture of weighing up pro's and cons. I'm sure we've all been there!

I know where you're coming from Beau. I do have a tractor but really like having the power source away from the splitter (generator and electric splitter combo). If there is a fast and reasonably powerful vertical electric hydraulic splitter out there this would also be an attractive option for me.

Apologies if this has already been covered but I am interested to know what models of kinetic splitters are currently, or soon to be available in the UK. I like the look of the Portek on the other thread and am keen to know what else is on the market. Many thanks, TVI

Looks like a pretty Mickey Mouse outfit Dean. They obviously shy away from the larger machines! I visited the Material Change site at Creeting yesterday with a view to using their screens and bagging line for charcoal. Rather too big a scale for my level of production! Saw a nice big Bandit chopper though:thumbup:

I understand where you're coming from, but ancient woodland is so important that it needs every protection we can give it. Especially with a government who values economic prosperity over everything else. The large-ish ancient woodland I manage is not a SSSI, but thankfully the owner is completely aware of it's importance. Sometimes woodland can be compromised by well intentioned activities. SSSI status would make this less likely to happen. In the case of our ancient woodlands I believe it is better to do nothing at all rather than the wrong thing.

Finished coppicing around one of the ponds that's down for de-sludging early next year. Felix was helping yesterday but can't make Thursday's due to ballet class commitments.
