  1. New fault for me today. Delimbing a cherry, running down the stem happily enough for a minute or so. Then the saw refused to throttle down from full power. Stopped, restarted and still at full power. Stopped it and had a good check over but couldn't see anything untoward. Restarted and has been fine. Only thing I have done differently in the past week is to have the heated handles on for long periods. Possible reason, or just an unlikely coincidence?
  2. Blimey. Those Alpin look smart but the price is certainly eye-watering!
  3. Careful with that description. That's 2 batteries dismantling a crown, moving, repositioning, rigging and then cutting. It works out at around 1 hour of cutting for the two batteries, although, as I said, one battery is certainly better than the other.
  4. That's poor. I get loads more than that. One battery is definitely better than the other, but two last us the day in the crown. Worth getting that battery replaced.
  5. +1. My mate just bought one for the reasons above. His 560 was a mite heavy over the day. 550 is a 346 with a tad more bite.
  6. I reckon hard wiring is the way to go with this. Not too hard though to charge a battery at lunchtime with the bonnet open when we're back eating pies. It only takes just over 30 mins from flat.

Use the stuff from Clark Forest.
  8. Malcom Moore does training near Elgin. Listed as Treewise.
  9. We already had a 020 and 201T between us, but I was holding out for the T540. Was having a pint or few with Bob down at Holmfirth and was easily persuaded to buy something shiny in the meantime. It was delivered to the hotel and we used it through the CS41 course. Left Tim's Echos in the truck! We had done a job at a BT call-centre a while before and they were a bit upset with the saw noise. Plus Stevie Blair had mentioned using his battery saw (Pelenc?) next to a care home. So it keeps the noise down until it's time to fire up the chipper. One purchase I certainly don't regret
  10. I was getting drunk in he pub and I had my iPad with me.
  11. Dismantled an oak down to about the bar size. (Use 12"). Two batteries. That was it topped down to the stems. After that went petrol for the chog down. Full growth 60ft Sitka, all limbs off and topped. Went to petrol after that. Both these examples had everything rigged down, so time between cuts. I found on a stupidly hot day it cut out a couple of times with constant cutting. Bought it in April. So far so good.
  12. No issues with the X2 spikes, been using them for over a year now and quite happy in them. Strap them over Haix Protector Pros. I couldn't compare them to any others for you though. I did use them a fair bit on CS41.
  13. You don't need to be on full power for the trunk unless you're in a hurry! But offset the slower cut with a nicer environment. No fumes and less noise. Keep forgetting to buy an inverter for the car to charge it up in the day. Must do that this weekend. (Anyone recommend one?) It certainly cuts a lot better than a 150 as I've got one of those too.
  14. I've been running an 07 plate Thunder Supercab coming up on 2 years now. Love it to bits. Engine rebuild last year because of previous shoddy work. Pulls 3 tons happily, although I do that in 4-Hi. Reverse that load in 4-Lo. The gearing is a bit too high in reverse in 2 wheel and your clutch will stink reversing any significant load, hence the 4lo comment. Believe they changed the gearing after 09. Love the ground clearance on it and it's off-road a lot. Going to swap the road tyres for decent AT ones soon. Keep an eye on the driveshaft boots. Knocking noise when turning in 4x4 means the boot may have split and the grease has gone. Best of luck with yours mate.
  15. I trust you didn't call the glazier out of hours? Grin.
  16. Will swap Scottish Malt Scotch for Japanese chainsaw bars! Up on the hills with the new bar on.
  17. Now that we're here, where's the trees? Over there apparently...... Up on the Knockando hills clearing trees to allow the area to revert to grouse moor. Heated handles were on
  18. Pete, for some reason I can't regain your message. I'll phone direct on Friday
  19. We passed on our concerns to the relevant dept. If we see it again it'll be HSE.
  20. No surprise. Up here we've watched several chainsaw jobs being carried out by council employees. No suitable PPE, insufficient or no training. No signage at all when working next to roads. I think its basically down to cost cutting.... or rather "no cost" cutting.
  21. Can you give me a quick fix please to reset the service warning on my 13/23? cheers! Jim
  22. Steady 30mph winds up here, with gusts this morning to 50. Been like it all night. With heavy rain thrown into the mix. Winter has finally arrived. Snow on the Cairngorm ski area now. Warm gloves and heated handles this week.
  23. Like your 57 I've not had a problem on my 346. Still on the original brake-band. Use both the saws the same. Both great saws. Wouldn't part with either.
  24. Stickers have arrived, cheers Barrie. Plus I now have two local dealers that can supply me with Aspen. One in Forres and one in Elgin. Result!
  25. New toys! Thanks for the bars, Rob. Time to pimp my 550
