  1. That's good going, Justin. Only 2 years ago that I enjoyed your open day in your present place. And got to spec out the Greenmech chipper that I was thinking of. Best wishes with your expansion.
  2. I agree, good post and kudos for doing so. Best of luck for the future.

    Stolen gear

Hope you get sorted with new stuff quick. That's an appalling loss in one go.
  4. The three of us up here are 46,47 and 48. We get to a job, look at the tree, look at each other and laugh. Then if I don't go up the tree they set fire to my trousers. We haven't been climbing long though. The legend up here is Ron Clowes. He was still climbing at 67, although last time I met him and his wife she told me he was retiring. I believe she won that argument.
  5. I would love to see a hierarchical (I had to look it up) system for equipment of all kinds, just to prevent the numerous duplicate threads. ie So you can drill down through "Chainsaws" - "Husqvarna" - "T540XP" or "Chainsaws" - "Stihl" -"Ms261" to read or ask about that particular machine. Perhaps combine that with a polite warning when you go to create a new thread that such a system is in place. You must see dozens of threads which are basically duplicates Steve. Be nice to consolidate everything down. Maybe save a wee bit of space too. Its equally applicable to Socks, Climbing trousers, helmets etc. I guess.
  6. Nope, do as your bank balance tells you. They could buy and sell you many times over. Normal rates. (Speaking as one who awaits a lightning bolt every time he steps on church ground.)
  7. Hi folks, Storm damaged coni to bring down on Monday in Inverness, Prob about 1.5 tons of chip. Anyone know of a good site to drop it off there?
  8. Update, Rich? Hope all went well.
  9. TKF have great liaison with a number of businesses, large and small. They've helped quite a few good guys get into work. Big recommend from me.
  10. Hope you find the guys you need. Have watched your work since Paul joined you, and very surprised that someone would want to move on. Like others have said, I think he'll be dismayed to become another brash dragger.
  11. I've been watching too many of Reg's videos Stevie! Big portawarp and rigging rope. Used a dyneema whoopie. Looks too thin to do the job, but worked well. Spence let it run nicely to the deck. Sloping garden, so moving the lumps downhill was sporting. Still due a beer.
  12. Still using the supplied bar. Wearing ok.
  13. Oak tree in Forres. Someone had the job of dropping it about 5 years ago, got so high then gave up and suggested a MEWP. They left a bare stem with about 15ft of crown. Our turn! Up, removing epicormic and ivy, drop the crown and chog down. Factored for 2 days, did it in one. Chuffed.

    Dream CAR

My dream car was the Westfield I built in '94. BRG, 2.1 Pinto, Twin 45 Dellorto carbs, fast road camshaft and it went like stink. Sold it in 2002 and just had a call tonight from a gentleman in Toulouse who has just bought it and converted it to left-hand drive!
  15. Rain and sleet here with winds gusting 40. And my son wants to hike through the forest with the local Scouts. I don't think so.... And you can shove "character building" up yer hoop!
  16. Set a dead elm alight this morning with my 576. The spark arrestor was in!
  17. Tree surgeon. Go for the common denominator that the public understands. Try to explain Arborist and after a few minutes "Oh, so you're a tree surgeon then?" You can hear them saying it already. Is there a difference? Of course there is. But note that I don't claim to be what I'm not, just a tree-cutter with a few years experience.
  18. What's wrong with your 13mm Gecko Matty? That will work ok with it. Or was it yourself that has two splices on your rope?
  19. I was sweet-talked into buying a pair of Protector Pro's 2 years ago by the rep at Justin's open day. They are comfy, dry, and still in one piece. I'll be getting another pair.
  20. Absolutely, Paul. Really missed it when it was recalled. And you were called every name under the sun when you mentioned you were getting to trial the new one. I'll miss some of the Hitchclimber's functionality, but not much!
  21. Blooming fingers. The XTC Fire tended pretty well after about 15 ft. Descents no different from the mk1. Quickly back in to the way if it. Jerky descents were a factor before, but only until you get used to it. Looking forward to trying the Blue Tongue though.
