  1. Nick have you tried a revolver instead of using the ring on your bridge it makes adjusting under load a bit easier.
  2. No! Far from it! His attitude is why over exert yourself when you could shimmy up a ladder to the canopy! Commercially it makes sense.
  3. Whilst reading the latest issue of arb climber I twice tried to enlarge the picture by tapping it with my finger!
  4. I watched it on the telly truly awesome! I always get goosebumps when the national anthem is played.
  5. That's a thing of beauty! Well done!
  6. Many Happy returns both of you.
  7. I'll second that!!
  8. Thankyou all for your replies, are all pear varieties susceptible to these midges and does soil type make any difference?
  9. I bought my old man a pear tree 3 years ago, and every year it is loaded with blossom yet once the fruit start forming it gets hit by something! the leaves have small white lumps on them I assume are some sort of egg then the leaves shrivel and turn black, the pears that are forming also turn black and drop off there are few tips that are also turning black and shrivelling! He has several apple trees that are 50 years old and he's worried it's going to hit them. Can anyone shed any light on what it could be and how we can treat it Regards paul
  10. I find your comment that you have yet to see a well managed proper shoot with a decent keeper that has an issue with raptors (is in my opinion) based on your very limited knowledge of game shooting, the countryside, and the people that try to scrape a living from it!! I would like to invite you to our shoot anytime you want to prove that your comment is totally unjustified!! I hope you will except my invitation.
  11. I've seen buzzards evolve into very capable hunters over the last 20 years of my gamekeeping career, anyone who thinks that buzzards are lazy and would rather eat carrion than take a healthy pheasant poult is welcome to come to my shoot and I'll put a dead rabbit in a pheasant pen full of poults and you see what he takes!! I think by managing the buzzards it will create an opening for the thousands of kites that have been released into our countryside!!!! I have seen 27 red kites sat on post in between partridge release sites waiting for a buzzard to kill when it does the kites mob him until he lets it go, the kite takes it off and eats it the buzzard kills again and the same happens until the buzzard gets fed up I counted 17 partridges killed by the same buzzard in one morning before he got one for himself and £40 a bird you can understand why most shoots don't want buzzards or kites! Just my opinion and observations.
  12. I was also thinking of trying a a builders chalk line it looks ideal and the length of the line is better but not sure how strong the line will be
  13. Yes this is what my climbing instructor told me, a good arborist always uses a ladder!!
  14. Credit where credits due! Great service Gusharts!! It was the sweets that did it well done;0)
  15. I recall last week seeing someone perched on the side of a sycamore stem over an asbestos roof! He looked less comfortable than the chap in the picture;0) Sorry Rupe I couldn't resist it!!
  16. I can't!! I'm saving for a spiderjack ;0)
  17. I've done the rads thing and it's way too slow for me ! If you didn't have to keep taking it apart I would stick with the o rig! Also another issue with the pantin if your a heavier climber that's all your weight on one leg! That can't be good for you?
  18. That's a great idea I'll give it a go The issue would be if you ascend on the prussic side you would end up with two rope tales to tangle with everything!
  19. It's all good! I'm not in anyway looking to have an argument and I agree with you fully about SRT, but not everyone likes SRT! If you were one of the many that don't like SRT how would you make DDRT ascending more efficient?
  20. I've got one and I love! it but that's not what this thread is about!
  21. Not necessarily! Try my way you'll be surprised!!
  22. And I know it's two hitches but if you look at it as a way of capturing your progress!it's no different to using your Hc method its just that you don't hold your weight while tending your rope
  23. Yes spiderjack is on the shopping list for the arb show
