  1. Quick question, a mate of mine that works for a car manufacturer as a firefighter at one of there factory's has given me 60mtrs 11mm mammut the red with black flecks i was going to cut it up to make a lanyard to run through my cinch but I'm not sure if it's ok for this purpose?
  2. I'm disappointed I expected a nice splice on it ;0)
  3. Hold it charlie
  4. Mark bolam
  5. Spot on! Your good!!
  6. If its been done I appolagise
  7. Penfold
  8. Does that apply to a pantin then?
  9. As suggested previously a shoe lace would be a cheap and perhaps! Safer option.
  10. But in that system the Tibloc isn't life support it's just a way of holding the pulley under the hitch isn't it and the Tibloc isn't advancing the hitch the pulley is.
  11. I know it's not as pretty but if you need to make a temporary replacement priest quickly get a small length blue/black water pipe then cut the brasses off of 4 live 12 gauge shotgun cartridges the other end of the cartridge can then be pushed into the water pipe it's a tight fit so they don't fly out when your dispatching game.
  12. You need an wider karabiner if your gonna use that pulley that's why people use a hitchclimber or pinto, it makes everything neater, also a splice on the rope makes it less bulky! but with the kit your using I would invest in a hitchclimber pulley that should be all you need to get over the problem
  13. Hi Peter, I can relate to that, I've been climbing for about 8 years purely recreational I started as most people did on prussic and blakes with and without pulleys with friction savers and I've bought the best gear and spent thousands of pounds! Yet I don't have any desire to cut down trees or work in the industry, I've taken my cs38 just because I wanted to learn and I love tree climbing, I'm no expert on the subject of climbing and I've learnt alot from an arborist friend and the good people on here, I've tried most knots and lots of systems and the one I have settled on is hitchclimber setup with distel hitch, like most things it takes lots of practice and expense before finding the perfect setup that suits your style of climbing, try lots of different hitch cords/ropes/mechanical devises, they all react differently, try and get to the arb shows or shops most of the gear is available to try before you buy or look out for rec climbs, good luck mate! Regards Paul
  14. The down side to the o rig is that when passing limbs you have to disconnect from the system!
  15. O rig! As you can see the splice goes through the ring on my bridge and connects back to the pulley. A small prussic is the important bit this enables you to lock your system within reach and prevents it getting out of reach. So you slide the red prussic while sliding your system to desired distance the do the reverse when you want the system close to you
  16. Without the double fishermans 47inches I find it needs to be Fairly short to work well.
  17. Either invest in a petzl pantin or you need to get used to pulling rope above the hitch, pull 3 times whilst thrusting hold with one hand then pull slack from under hitch, it takes a bit of getting used too but you get the hang of it quickly also I wouldn't use a friction saver to start with as the friction will help you to hold your weight as you pull out your slack. The other way is the o rig I'll try send pics too it works by sliding your system away from you thus enabling you to pull on your rope tail and bodythrusts the pulley advances your hitch ahead of you, once you've reached your desired limb you slide the system back close to your bridge giving you close control of your hitch.
  18. Sorry not the best pics but hope you get the idea
  19. I'll sort some pics in a mo
  20. Have a look at the arbtalk knot guide, you'll learn how to tie the various knots, distel would be my choice if your progressing from prussic.
  21. Sirius ring loop From me
