  1. Somerset farmer defends 'prison' style fence built to stop dog walkers straying from path | Mail Online Own up. Who was it? Doesn't look cheap.
  2. You're up early, Paul. I've been burning the midnight oil. Exam in 6.5 hours' time.
  3. Rent him a **** mower that doesn't owe you anything for very cheap. You never know what you could spark.* *Probably nothing but what's life without optimism.
  4. Getting proper pangs from reading this thread. I've been drinking instant since my cafetière broke. Just bought a cheap macchinetta to give that a go (can use it at home and out and about) and might get a proper benchtop job if I want to do clever milk stuff.
  5. My take on EU money: There are simply so many conflicting, biased and misleading statistics and reports out there that ordinary peasants like us can't possibly know whether we get more out or less out than we put in. Even if we do "know" whether we net lose or net gain, the actual figure doesn't matter. If we are losing money, we need to ask ourselves whether we are getting something in return (are we benefiting enough from free movement of goods, people etc?). If we are winning money, I say we're not really. All member states pay in hard fvcking cash, nice lump sums. The important factor is not what we get out, it's how we get it out. Spain gets out nice big lumps of cash and builds roads with it. The UK gets out thousands of thin streams of funding for cretinous social projects and other bullshit. The money is spread so thinly that it practically evaporates.
  6. Learn to fish. The guys down on the Wear often have some good looking catches. Need to establish a trading relationship with one of them.
  7. I'm on an economy drive diet, Paul. 25kg bag of potatoes - £3.50 10kg bag of onions - £3.89 Garlic Other veg Backbone of every meal. I have so many spare carbs going, especially considering how inactive I am at the moment.
  8. I am looking forward to celebrating my 40th birthday... ...in 2027. Clearly they don't make 'em like they used to.
  9. I've been giving this a go for the last couple of mornings. A pint of hot water and lemon and two cups of tea (my usual) seems to produce 8, maybe 9 gallons of urine by about 12:00. What sorcery is this?!
  10. What computer are you on? What operating system? What browser?
  11. Alas, that's what I was thinking. Was hoping for thermo-magic. I just want double the excuse to buy a Kelly Kettle really.
  12. Worth getting to use for both or so utterly useless on the stove as to render that entire half of the equation null?
  13. Are they any good for leaving permanently on the side of an Aga/Rayburn to keep warm and moving to the main hotplate to boil when needed?
  14. Same. I asked them for the best one for cutting rope and canoe thwarts (20mm x 30mm dried ash) and they're sending a black one.
  15. I was in that neck of the woods earlier this year in my Transit adventure wagon. Front wheel drive, least powerful engine, highest gearing.... Two boats on the roof and all the gear for an outdoorsy trip for me and my cousins sitting nicely over the back axle... Hartside was fine. Hardknott less so. The penalty of owning a vehicle where some of the wheels don't work. I hate FWD. I'll be going back to 4WD (or at least RWD) next car. Nice comfy 4WD Jap truck looks just the job.
  16. No Messerschmidtt pilots mentioned yet... My lot were all involved in agriculture so no particular heroics. A close family friend (all 5' of him) landed at Normandy with a Bren gun. Got injured a couple of weeks before close of play. He's pretty quiet about it but when asked has some mindblowing stories.
  17. I'm in Suffolk at the moment. Will be back in the better part of the world around new year. Will drop you a line when I know when I'm driving up and find out where you are. My christmas plan is police powers and judicial review revision and a kebab if anywhere's open.
  18. Reminds me of a Volvo Sugga. Very cool things. When I'm indecently wealthy I'll have a pair of Volvos, a Sugga and a 303, on the driveway. Have a good Christmas, Paul. Catch you anon.
  19. Yeah, the thing you stand behind to make a speech. Churches usually have quite ornate ones. I thought someone might have been commissioned to make one. The decorative element (all except the flat bit for the book/papers) could be any sort of carving you like. Jonathan Davis from Korn has a similarly interesting mic stand.
  20. Great looking dog. I've never been particularly fussed about Spaniels but he is ace.
