  1. Thanks for the response. Vancouver/Victoria. Appreciate the trees and the style of work is different. Presenting different challenges that you’d face in the U.K. Ah okay, didn’t realise self employed route for climbers wasn’t that common over there!
  2. Hello all, after some local advice / knowledge from those who may be able to help. Getting ready to transition to a move to Canada. A competitive day rate for a self employed climber in the U.K. varies from £200 - £250 (Generally speaking and depending on kit owned/used). Roughly £25 - 30 p/h. Does anyone know what the equivalent of this is, in Canada. On a self employed and PAYE basis. (Appreciate different factors like own ppe, climbing kit, saws and cost of living). Thanks in advance.
  3. Hello all, I'm looking for work in AUS/NZ/CA. Happy to do a zoom call, meet the team and build up a network for work (throughout this month and going forward). I’m 27, approaching 28. Hold both a British and Canadian passport. I drive and can tow. Hold licenses for trailer & HGVs etc (C1, C, BE, C1E, and CE). I enjoy talking and working with customers. Which is done in a confident and professional manner. I hold all the relevant tickets a Climber and Groundsman would require. Tickets below: NPTC 201, 202, 203 - Basic chainsaw maintenance, cross cutting and felling " 306 - Aerial tree rescue operations and climbing. " 308 - Aerial cutting of trees with a chainsaw. " 327 - Woodchipper. " 319 - Brush cutter and powered pole pruner. " - Banksman, slinger and signaler. " - HIAB Driver and operator. In addition to this, have first aid in forestry and hold HOLOs medical training qualifications and certificates. Have obtained Units 305/306, 312, & 314 (Level 3 theory). However, tree knowledge and experience still requires work and more real time experience. I'm honest, on time and keen to get my hands dirty. I'm used to working in small to large teams. Greatly, understand the importance of not being a dick and pulling your own weight. Keen to get exposure and guidance. Learning from those who are willing to teach where safe and applicable on the job (appreciate the priority of the job and where this isn’t applicable). As mentioned, I’m not gods gift, nor will set the world on fire. However, rely on working hard and getting on with a job/task, to bring me up to an equal playing field. I have my own PPE, climbing kit and saws (top handle and ground saw). Happy to meet you / the team before committing to any work. Any questions, please message me. Thank you for taking the time to read this, James NB: if you have any contacts or any relevant information, that would be of interest. Would very much appreciate it!
  4. Looking for any help / guidance with getting a good truck insurance quote/company. Just been quoted £2300 for the year (full comp / break down). For a 2017 Toyota Hilux (tipper body). 8 years no claims, no points and convictions. Surely this can’t be right? Or, is this the going rate? Thanks 👍
  5. No luck. Covered by warranty, luckily exchanged it for a new one. Despite, troubleshooting couldn’t come up with a logical reason why, it wasn’t working!
  6. The battery has been used and fully charged less than 10 times. So still in its early stages of life. It was left with no charge for a week. Have left it for a couple of hours and will try and again.
  7. Hello all, having issues charging one of my BLi300 batteries. I have cleaned the ports, turned on and off etc and tried to the charging port with another battery that works fine. a red warning light comes on. Then switches off and doesn’t begin to charge. (See video) any advice or help would be appreciated! Thank you! IMG_1965.MOV IMG_1966.MOV
  8. Hey, appreciate the reply. I hear you. Getting out there and meeting people face to face, is ultimately the best option. However, trying to accumulate some knowledge before hand.
  9. Hello all, Looking for any and all, climbers and groundsmen/women. Who have moved to Canada in the past to work. And, those who live over there now. Looking at making the move (Targeting the BC area). If anyone has any relevant contacts who need a climber/groundy. Or, any relevant information that would help the transition. I would be over the moon and greatly appreciate it! (Fortunate to own a Canadian passport already. And, have the relevant qualifications). Many thanks, James
  10. I’m looking for work in the Cornwall area (Falmouth & Truro. Potentially, Devon too). However, willing to travel further afield for long-term work e.g London or up North. Happy to do a trial day, meet the team and build up a network for work (throughout this month and going forward). I’m 26, approaching 27. I drive and can tow. Hold licenses for trailer & HGVs etc (C1, C, BE, C1E, and CE). However, my reversing with a trailer requires more practise (as a result, opt for taking it slow and steady. Using my initiative to get the chipper into those desirable spots). I enjoy talking and working with customers. Which is done in a confident and professional manner. I hold all the relevant tickets a Secondary Climber and Groundsman would require (except, aerial rigging CS41). That being said. I’m not gods gift and require more experience in all aspects of my tree work. Tickets below: NPTC 201, 202, 203 - Basic chainsaw maintenance, cross cutting and felling " 306 - Aerial tree rescue operations and climbing. " 308 - Aerial cutting of trees with a chainsaw. " 327 - Woodchipper. " 319 - Brush cutter and powered pole pruner. In addition to this, have first aid in forestry and hold HOLOs medical training qualifications and certificates. I’m fortunate enough, to hold a Canadian passport and citizenship. Which will ease the transition.(However, have never been!) I drive and can tow.
