If the tree killing community seriously needed to re-evaluate its approach to habitat wood, someone as knowledgeable as David would no doubt say it simply enough for us saw-happy simpletons to understand. Reasons for explaining things in complicated ways include: You don't understand it well enough yourself You don't want people to understand it
  2. Booming market for second hand chainsaws on ebay. Brand new MS170; a paltry £170.

Not so boring that you didn't mention it first though. Very good of you to share your experiences with us but it would be even gooder of you to answer a question when someone puts you on the spot. Working in the public sector will have imbued you with a sense of freedom from accountability but I'm happy for you to waive that if you are. He who alleges must prove. He piped up first. I'm happy to blow minds any day of the week.

That notwithstanding, you still have the opportunity to answer a beautifully simple question here: If the brutes, vandals and scoundrels firewooding/milling/chipping everything were informed of the error of their ways, maybe more wood would get left for habitat, which I believe is what you're after.

Come now. You wrote it! You could have easily copied it here or to me in a PM. If you can be bothered to ask Mr Pine why he felled it, surely you can be bothered to fight the good fight and explain why it's worth more to the world as habitat than it is to the firewood economy. Indulge us.

Got a link to the article online please? I don't get that mag.

In no more than 100 words, what's the point of leaving wood to rot?
  8. Since we're on a slight mog derail, how often do you find yourself using the rear-steer on yours, skyhuck?
  9. Law or trees? This time of year, in the rain, just above freezing and getting dark at 15:00 - desk please!
  10. Paul's capabilities as a photographer never cease to amaze. Here, he has made me look both 15-years-old and anorexic. Pleasure as always, Mr Fox. Many thanks again for the harness. Modelled above and now sporting a custom-built high-speed, low-drag bridge.
  11. Are any of these big shredders in the UK on tracks?
  12. I disagree. I think he's dumb but tough. Everything looked like hard work. You'd have thought they'd have become more efficient after 25 years. On a less savoury note, something registered regarding his attitude towards his wife. Not sure I like him very much.
  13. Shredders that'll pull in whole trees or are they the dumping brash on a conveyor type?
  14. What's the biggest Bandit in the UK?
  15. I was very tempted by the U900 that went on ebay a couple of days ago. Went for £4k ish. Needed plenty of body welding but had PTOs and hydraulics front and back and a plate on the front. That and a modest 6 incher seemed a cool micromog to me.
  16. You can upload from you computer to this site with the 'manage attachments' button.
  17. It's practical architecture, dahling. I think you're allowed to be interested in that.
  18. 10% of that pile deals with just whether someone is an employee, a contractor or something else. It's always contentious. I'm afraid a lot of very certain answers on this thread aren't right. The best posts on this thread were: If you don't know whether you need employers' liability insurance, you probably do. We're just dumb tree cutters who couldn't possibly know the answer. I don't know the answer. Lawyers don't know the answer. Judges struggle with it. Pay for EL or pay for a lawyer's opinion on whether you need EL (probably about the same cost; unless the lawyer advises you to get EL, then it's both outlays). The insurance WILL cover you. The lawyer's opinion MIGHT cover you.
  19. Some bastard walked off with my favourite BIC biro.
  20. A good war would be an eye opener. ****, but an eye opener.
  21. I do, I do... The lift etc sounded quite nifty though. You can imagine that's where he takes in the barrels of beer for all the wild parties if that helps sex it up for you.
  22. As sad as it may seem, show us your boiler room please!
