What machinery is best to move stuff on a slope

Although very late to the thread I'd go for an old major with a double drum on it, 1 drum for haul in and 1 drum for haul back via a pulley, we've extracted hundreds of tons of hardwood from slopes harvesters wouldn't touch, hard work though -
As gdh has said the tajfun is a hell off a machine, I would have loved to have been able to afford 1, as it is I opted for a lightly used Dunn 420 from Wilson's. Although it doesnt have the splitting force of the tajfun it very rearly fails on anything with the 6 way wedge, it can cope with bent and awkward timber and has a few useful qualities, swinging outfeed conveyor with a grid in it to filter out small bits, adjustable splitting chamber between 400 and 600mm and a really strong hydraulic log clamp that secures the last log. Downside would be having to almost constantly adjust bar drop speed to get the best production but that becomes almost second nature after a while.

Theres Chris vickery at market weighton, just down the road, think he is running 2 big bells processors with something like a mtr capacity. But youd have to take the timber to his yard. -
Hi all, the mother in law has decided she wants a new multifuel burner in the kitchen. She's found an ecosy 10kw stove at a very good price, about £520 I think. I've never heard of them and just wondering if anybody's had any experience of them? Don't want her to waste her money on something that wont last. Or if anybody can recommend a reliable multifuel of around 10kw that wont break the bank. Thanks for any advice- Andy

Sorry bud missed this, Fitted a tipper on her and had a bodyshop rebuild rear cross member and give it a coat of paint. Just need something with a little comfort now, and bigger payload.

What about a loader tractor towing a big hook trailer with hiab, rock up at a job and demount your chip box, drop bolster pins in to chassis and load timber and take it back to the yard while the lads are chipping into the box. Then back for the chip box and home for tea and tiffin!

Has it eaten the gears inside? If it's only bearings and seals it can be repaired quite cheaply, did 1 for the delimber last year for about £35

Lengths of cast iron drain pipe with slots cut in every 12 inch and bung the end up. Then you can pile brash on top with the grab, works a treat.

I've got the granberg aswell, it's a bit fiddly to set up but it's good for evening chains back up if you sharpen 1 side a bit more than the other by hand or if you find farmer palmers 4 inch nail collection in a hedge side tree

I need to create a bit more hard standing in my yard but I don't want to dig out the grass and soil and fill with stone as its registered as grazing land and if its picked up on annual inspections it would have to be reinstated. I'm thinking of grading the grass/ soil as best as possible then laying membrane down and using gravel grids filled with 20/25 mm stone. It's only for stacking full ibcs on so not a lot of traffic. Has anybody any experience of using grids? Will they stand up to a 5 ton forklift running over them? Just want to stop it turning into a swamp next winter Cheers- andy

I'd say damage to either seal block on base of ram stem or to internals of outer cylinder/internal of next cylinder below. Could also be seal block coming loose and jamming in cylinder

I think my main issue would be operating base, Although I have a yard, it's not secure enough to leave a vehicle there, a d I don't officially pay rent, so base would have to be my home which I think would present a whole load more complications.

It's a 10 plate with 90 thou on it, I would have liked something newer but pickings are slim at the moment as regards tippers.

Cheers for that, its maybe something to look into further down the line. When you look at YouGov websites re o licenses it's all very complicated, but when somebody who knows , like you, it becomes a little clearer

We don't go far or carry others goods but have heard (possibly falsely) of vosa looking to crack down on construction vehicles towing mini diggers etc without tacho, we very rarely tow, but how can you prove that if your stopped with a digger behind you? Just trying to be as legal as possible. For now!

It'll only do about 5000 miles a year as I try to use the little bipper as much as possible. What put me off o licence was 6 weekly checks when it may have only done 100 miles since last 1, and associated tacho centre costs etc. Although I didn't realise it was as affordable as £780 to set up an o license, can they be run from a domestic dwelling or do you need separate premises?

I know but I needed a replacement for the 130 quickly. And at least if by unfortunate chance I do end up a whisper over weight, I know it's well within its capabilities.

Afternoon all. I've just bought an iveco 5.2 ton tipper, it's been down plates to 3.5 and I've no intention of switching it back. Its obviously fitted with a digi tacho, my question is, should I just leave my drivers card in permanently so when I do tow anything, its recorded, and also as helpful evidence in the event of an accident to show correct speeds etc. I guess the head records it anyway. Also anything to look out for on 3.0 ltr iveco? Cheers- Andy

The gearboxes from tractor factory alter the direction of rotation and are geared up slightly I think 1-1.2 The gearbox I've got is also geared up a little, but I've done no calculations as regards input speed. I was just going to find shaft speed with no load using a digi tacho and find a gear that suits then apply load and see how it reacts

Looking good, before I found the baler gearbox I was going to buy 1 from tractor factory, it was listed under topper gearboxes, but if you do see an old round baler try and buy the front gearbox, they're really heavy duty. Does the iveco need much in the way of electrics to run?

I got a bit further with mine, transit engine now running nicely, and got a right angle gearbox from a round baler that has 6 spline shafts on each end and alters direction of rotation so have all forward gears to choose from on transit gearbox, just have to join everything together now.
