  1. Do I deduce the WoodStove market has reached saturation/died a death/requires resurrection then?
  2. I am, kinda, with HOYC, re antibiotic avoidance, for whatever reason, unless ABSOLUTLY needed. Many others are not, apparently. Essentially, in my reasonably, i.e. 60-15=45 years formed opinion, antibiotics should not be guzzled as a preventitive measure, as most undoubtely/indisputably are. Save them for when they are actually/really needed. marcus
  3. .....................
  4. So much trash, unfortunately not all of it can be Skipped afterwards, like wot certainly most of it, should be.
  5. Erm, 50 to 100 to 150 years, at an educated guess, for owt of similar traditional cast iron construction as Astroflamm/Morso/Jotul, for instance, as said, door seals, baffle plates, firebrick linings and glass will require periodic replacement, but since we ran a Morso Panther 24/7 for 4 months of each winter over a 10 year period, incl "slumbering" overnight, with only a replacement baffle plate and firebrick needed(due to overstuffing) and additional daylight burning in the autumn and spring months. This also included a couple of alcohol induced bone-dry Mahogony offcut fuelled fires where the 4' long flue pipe was glowing dull red. Despite this mistreatment this stove has done 20 years and is no worse for wear. Hence my opening line re expected life. And the flue has never been cleaned during these 20+ years btw. Marcus
  6. That is so cute, I really like the smooth haired Dachshunds, having fond memories of a daughters dog.
  7. Why does that immediately remind me of Kenny Everret's Cupid Stunt, course I always preferred her younger sister Cunning . . ., who was alas, never to be seen.
  8. I find it odd that none of the manufacturers see the sense in fitting a button, to be pushed ahead of, or early during a long planned journey, that would "inform" the engine management to do a regen, if say the DPF was 60-70-80% full. Having experienced the Octavia deciding to regen during an 8 mile return trip, after a cold start, having done a planned 200 plus mile continuous journey the previous day ! Gerr!
  9. Turbo generated Torque talks, regardless of the engine size. And one hopes with advances in metals/ceramics/oil technology, at no cost in terms of engine longevity. Such is progress
  10. Gosh! Even better news than when we was in danger o winning the World Cup. mth
  11. Is that to suggest Comarade Corbyn is only a raving political nut-job on Friday's, I do suppose so since this is a Friday 13th mth
  12. I agree re Blackthorn's deserved reputation, tis the why perplexes me.
  13. It is little wonder there are issues re the failing effectivness of antibiotics if people run to the Dr. for antibiotics for a jag, no matter how painful. Or is that remark to near the knuckle? This from a country raised perspective, and a father with a healthy respect for the dangers of blood poisoning. That is; first have a good hoke, apply dilute hydrogen peroxide, hoke some more, apply a poultice, & thole, BUT always watch for any spreading redness. I do not recall any of the 4 of us getting antibiotics as children or adolescents, despite the usual cuts and injuries associated with growing up on a working farm. P.S. Why is it reckoned Blackthorn is the worst thorn, how can it harbour any different bacteria to other nearby non blackthorns jags. Or what is so different about Blackthorn? Do Blackthorn thorns have a greater tendency to break off under the skin and leave bits in the wound(my take on it) Marcus
  14. Surely the FC has to recompense the purchaser for their mistake/misslabelling/misselling?
  15. ? Since I warnt allowed to put sad & confused on your origional post Mark. P.S. Seriously, fully costed? and by a Greek sounding bloke too, so remind me again of the on-going non-success of the Greek Economy
  16. Well I understood KJ's line of thought . . .
  17. Cousin put one in, "Coke Can" sized logs required, probably really need these for the smaller stoves; https://www.luxurywood.co.uk/heat-logs/8-eco-briquette-heat-logs.html?gclid=CjwKCAjw7IbaBRBqEiwA6AyZgsr1bcxKQvwQj3qA9Xb_Z7MtxbMnSHAB1hf6zWrXASJYf2GSKIz5URoCy_MQAvD_BwE or similar, to get any useful steady heat
  18. Ouch! now that was low, true, but low nonetheless! Anyway the way TM has shilly-shallyd about with the Brexit negotiations, good riddance. JRM is the only true Conservative leadership candidate. marcus
  19. Re invisible tape measures, I "blagged" 10 or 12 one year at a building trades exhibition, from the "Soaks" stand, I am lucky to find one of them, and then only accidentally when looking for sommat else. However, despite the apparent US fascination(based on my Imgur viewings) with never-to-be-found 10mm sockets, I have never, ever lost or misplaced my 10mm socket. mth Re the extra Bank Holiday, how about we get one if JC ever wins a general election, or is that less likely . . .
  20. see, btw. this was the "throw it there, it will do rightly", neglected, bulldozed bytimes, "firewood" pile that I been avoiding for a few years, hence the periodic bulldozing with the tractor loader, finally tidied up, & courtsey of the recent good weather, dry right down to the ground beneath. Now I need to construct a frame, out of Sitka poles, to stockpile my trees on, i.e. up off the ground, when I bring them down from the moss.
  21. Yes, Vindaloo indeed, seeing as ah just had a feed o SM's homegrown curry like ! An now safely tucked up in bed. mth=marcusthehic!
