  1. Is this the chain tensioner on the rear bogie of an osa 260? And is this its tightest position?
  2. Yeah I will post some more pics once its set up and dragging. Can anyone tell me what oil should be in the rear bogies?
  3. Thanks for the replies. The oil and filter are fairly new. I will check the safety valve tomorrow. Hopefully its not the pump that's faulty. I've had the chipper about ten years and Its been a great machine and up until now I've only had to replace the roller bearings and a couple of hoses. I just got the bearings off a bearing specialist in Inverness and filters off my local agri engineers. Not sure who the dealers were and don't think kwic chip exist any more.
  4. My Kwik chip 327 ecoline chipper let me down yesterday. Groundsman was feeding it when the rollers stopped turning and the drive belt for the hydro pump started smoking! I cleaned out all the debris from the rollers and tightened the belt but it done the same thing after five mins. Any ideas what may have caused this? The rollers have jammed before but when reversed it clears it.
  5. Got this osa 260 forwarder based at650 skyline for a Job up north. Proper old school forestry!
  6. It sounds to me like a large tracked chipper towed behind a 7.5 ton would be the most flexible addition to your fleet. You will miss the mog for site clearance work but a tracked chipper would fill the gap.
  7. Is that Davie grant doing the felling and extraction with the timberjack skidder? I watched him extract oak at dalmally with that old skidder, impressive machine. I think he has retired now, wonder if the skidder is still working in the wood?
  8. Seen plenty 3 ton tracked dumpers with post knockers on the back of them here in Argyll Scotland. I have a 3 ton excavator which I've used with a post knocker on a couple of jobs, think it has a 200kg weight on it, not the most stable of setups but you just need to make sure you have the knocker on the uphill side when your tracking on steep ground!
  9. I've got a winch mounted to a bucket on my 3 tonner and it's got a roller fairlead. It's a handy bit of kit for small jobs where it's not worth getting the skidder in. You can lift the arm to get the drag over stumps and steer it with the slew as long as the logs not too heavy. As above have a look at a and b services website, they are exelelent engineers and have been doing this type of stuff for years.
  10. I'm based in Argyll Stephen, who were you working for in Argyll? Yeah I know the price will vary site to site but I think it would be a good way to do it as the winch is payed by the ton so when the winch is making decent money so are the cutters and chokermen. Sorry that should really be chokerpersons these days
  11. Cheers for the replies, yeah I've always cut for hourly or daily rate myself but I'm setting up my own skyline crew and just wanted to see what piece work rate would work out at. 3 quid a ton sounds about right for cutting and I'm guessing chokering would be less than that?
  12. Are there no skyline winch crews on arbtalk?
  13. Anyone know the going rate per ton for cutters and chokerman working with a skyline winch dragging whole trees? I know the price will differ with timber size but a rough price will do to get me started. Cheers.
  14. The fc frameworks are a joke! You don't have to be good at the job just good at filling out the paperwork and telling a good story about how great you are. 😛
  15. what is a pti course???
  16. id agree with the unimog, chipper and mower, ive had tractor and chipper for last 10 years and although it has served me well it can be painfully slow on long road journeys and if you need to remove chip from site you need another vehicle. unimog can do it all in one.
  17. what grade of engine oil should be used in the above engine? cheers.
  18. Cheers, is there extra tax to pay on top for taking it back to uk?
  19. anyone on here bought a unimog in europe and taken it back to uk? been browsing the net and found loads for sale at about half the price atkinson vos are selling them for. how did you go about it?
  20. jmac

    Weather..

yeah heat is fine if your lying about drinkin beer! not so nice when your draggin to the chipper or cuttin an burnin rhoddies.
  21. where abouts in argyll are you? i use a and b services at killin, they are very helpfull and quite often have parts in stock.
  22. top wire might be insulated but not worth risking it, contact power company.
  23. cheers pete.
  24. anyone on here know what hydraulic and gear oil the kwikchip 327 ecoline pto chipper takes? think its a 2000 model. cheers.
  25. If possible get someone with plenty experiance of this type of fencing to do the job with you, you will prob learn loads from them. I price per m and add on 15 pound per strainer, the farmer should tell you what spec of fence he wants you to build. Testing the ground is a good idea, plenty fencers lost money by hitting rock!
