  1. Go on skyhuck, that would look cool next to the mog as extra chip space
  2. Thanks . I just seen an old thread from johny Burch saying greenmech wanted over £450 for a starter, think I will give that a miss!
  3. The starter motor fried on my safetrak 19 28 today, and I need one asap. Am I best getting one straight from greenmech? Or is there anywhere north of the border that I could get one from ? The chipper has the izusu engine if that makes any difference. Thanks.
  4. How much is the bandit to hire Tom?
  5. About 0.5 cube trees.
  6. It's hard to get a start cutting for a skyline, it sounds easy just dropping trees but you need to know what your doing and usually your felling on very steep ground. As with most jobs you need to start at the bottom. Still a few skyline crews working throughout Scotland so there is work for cutters.
  7. Yes that would be just dropping them, the trees would be pre brashed too.
  8. The going rate around here is 150 quid a day which isn't too bad, I have been offered 175 a day by one contractor for felling for a skyline which is bloody good and been offered 80 to 100 a day by another contractor for brashing and felling oversized which is a joke! You would be on less than minimum wage by the time you paid your expenses . I would fell around 200 trees a day for the 175 a day skyline contractor, so worked very hard for the money!
  9. Photo would help!
  10. I've bodged up a bracket so I can use the hydraulic puller. Its got some scary pressure on it now and as you can maybe see in the photo has started to bend the bracket! Still not budged the gearbox though. I hope the gearbox holds up to this
  11. Buy yourself an Allen key socket and use with a ratchet. They should come undone easily with the extra leverage.
  12. I thought the bearing inside the pillow block would be one piece so I'd need to remove the gearbox?? I will check if it is a one piece. Good shout with the chain on the puller I will give it a go if I actually have to remove the gearbox lol.
  13. The flywheel bearings have gone on my Kwik chip 327 and I'm having trouble removing the pto gearbox from the shaft. My hydraulic pullers wont go round the gearbox and I have tried a 10 ton hydraulic spreader but it hasn't budged at all! Anyone got any ideas?
  14. Hi folks, I have a grain trailer with the usual top hinged rear door. Now this is OK for woodchip but a real pita for logs! My plan is to make barn doors for the trailer to make it quick and easy to offload logs. Has anyone on here done this conversion? And have you got any advice or pictures? Its really just the latch mechanism Im not sure about. Thanks.
  15. The neighbours are wanting the height reduced as its started blocking out the light to their garden. Yeah I've removed monkey puzzles before and am not looking forward to it to be honest.
  16. The guy wants it reduced as its started to encroach on the neighbours and public foot path. Another case of wrong tree in wrong position!
  17. I did suggest pruning at ground level . Pole saw and ladder would be the way to do it . Thanks for the replies.

    Using a Winch

My local hire shop has 25hp pedestrian grinders, but they are usually blunt as hell. With sharp teeth they would handle the job OK though. Way easier and quicker than tirfor.
  19. Hi all, a customer has asked me to prune a 20ft monkey puzzle. He wants approx 2ft removed from the top and sides, I know it will be a nasty job to do but just wanted to know if they take well to pruning and if you have to take them back to branch unions? Any advice welcome cheers.
  20. Ah an extra 65 horse will do it have you turbocharged it?
  21. That's the way to deal with conifers quickly! No dicking about snedding and hand dragging to a wee chipper, brilliant
  22. Nice old mog and plenty room for chip in that trailer. Does the mog tow it fully loaded OK?
  23. Good old Donald MacLean! He tells it like it is.
