  1. As its been said before each tree has its own different characteristics. The snapping point on a trunk takes into variables such as canopy dimensions, leaning degree of tree, centre of gravity etc. I personally think that it is a lot safer to fell at the base of the load rather than at some point along the angle of curvature (if there is a lean). No one can say you done it wrong Tom because it worked to plan
  2. Nice job In the fourth pic from the bottom, can I ask why the the buttresses are cut flush to the trunk? Is it so that it just sits nice and flat on the wagon?
  3. Having trouble with an Ms201T, once the throttle has been let go the saw runs on and then slowly returns back to normal idle. Couldnt find default carb settings on the net. The clutch is fine and the chain is tensioned correctly. any ideas anyone?
  4. Out of curiousity in what way does it shorten the life of the saw?
  5. Are you into old school gaming?? You can download emulators for consoles such as N64, SNES, Sega mega drive and the list goes on. Hit coolroms.com: The Leading Video Games Site on the Net everythings available from there...
  6. Checked several times a day over here
  7. Not the be all end all of resources but a very handy one at that
  8. Don't bog off how would we learn!? Most of your threads are very very interesting and clearly you are quite knowledgable about tree ecology and fungi but I must agree these threads are kind of odd. Keep your guns and keep producing tree related stuff, pinch of salt Tony! And I also agree with the fact that (and I certainly have learnt this myself) If the poster has nowt good to say then why post it, it does wreck threads, keep it all about trees. Treequip why post "yawn" if you didn't like it then don't post anything. It's because of people like you that turn some valuable members away from this place. Keep it all about the trees
  9. After abit of hoaking would i be right in saying its Trametes Gibossa?
  10. Taking down two eucalyptus trees i discovered this around the base. im still working out what fungus this is but could anybody explain if it had a relation to the pattern of decay in this heartwood. Id love to know what the history was inside of this trunk but my lack of knowledge forbids me from knowing. so if any of the experts would perhaps like to explain to me and pehaps others who would like to know what happened inside this wood?
  11. How embarrassing I meant Spudulike lol sorry! I would be partial to use petrol over 30days old sometimes. But I also do dry store the saw when I remember to. So in essence I caught this in the early stages of blow by? And by using either aspen 2 or fresh petrol the colour stains won't get any worser?
  12. Hi GardenKit, the saw is only two years old and is used infrequently maybe a couple of days a month on nowt heavy, sometimes can be left dormant for two months. It runs excellent so I guess I have nowt to worry about thanks!
  13. Hey all im back again this time with my Ms181. I was flaking about on youtube about muffler mods so i thought id give mine ago. i took the exhaust off. but quickly realised i didnt have a baldy what i was doing but i had a look in my cylinder and noticed oil on the piston below the rings. is this normal or nowt to worry about?
  14. Stihl MS 180 (this was my first saw, really decent wee saw. The heaviest I had it at was 16inch Ash w/14" bar and it did well.) and a tub is Aspen and your sorted. Worst come to worst I'd of thought the petrol saw would be a lot easier to sell than the electric one.
  15. Thanks for the ID @fastracdude LOL
  16. Stumbled across this today which is my strangest find to date Whenever I touched the top of it, it blew out a brown dust which I can only assume to be spores?
  17. I think it's great. Really easy to read and everything is well explained. Some tutorial vids on milling or carving would be nice
  18. Kind of local work both sides of the border
  19. It sounds daft but is the chain on too tight?
