  1. I regularly get asked if i was looking at a woman or a tree by the better half I found through experience its easier to reply "both" and cover myself Makes for a laugh when I say "look at the butt on that" or "I bet that old girl has a moist cavity or 2"
  2. Spiking wont expose the heart wood on a pine but the cuts will

  8. This is a small part of my family tree
  9. Used a mates 201 last weekend reducing a few pops and it was rubbish, bogged down, handle was split ,the av has to much play in it, it feels like it was made up as a school project from bits and bobs found lying around on the workshop scrap pile
  10. Nice one designed in the pub built in the shed is what made us world leaders
  11. Change its location in the garden, it might be that it was to exposed.
  12. I guess that he went up the ramp to use the digger and it wasnt the only method of access, if it was then the skidder would have been more fun to watch.
  13. Its been a long time since I've been to a farm sale or the like but must admit I dont miss standing in the rain all day to watch the lot I wanted make 3 times what it was worth.
  14. Had to look that one up and then realised you were in Michigan
  15. Is that a female sparrow hawk Reddog ?
  16. I wouldnt have to justify that scenario as I wouldnt allow it to swamp a tree, so the tree wouldnt die management is the key, work with things rather than removing them as they all serve a purpose in lifes rich pattern
  17. Mad ? maybe I appreciate the benefits of Ivy on certain trees and leave it for the cover it offers to bats, insects and birds to name just a few it also provides cover for nesting and over wintering in areas that lack evergreen trees. Veteran trees with open canopies can offer to much light and the ivy can sometimes out grow the host, if I find a tree like this then I sometimes seather half the stems and leave the other half which also helps prevent sun scorch. Another bonus of Ivy is the source of food it offers to the insects that live in it and the animals that feed on them, the flowers also contribute largly to bees diet. There are 2 sites on the same main road where salt from gritting the road killed the conifer hedges but in both cases the owners wanted to retain the cover so the Ivy has been allowed to grow and is now trimmed and shaped over the old stumps, and seems to be doing a better job of suppresing the noise and collecting the air born pollution from the busy traffic.
  18. Nope its not doing any harm imo.
  19. Hi Eddie thanks for the reply:001_cool: Using aspen 2 No idea what colour the machine is about 3 years old 5 litre can and no other fuel used in it for atleast 18 months maybe even 2 years.
  20. It was my local Stihl dealer who is also the person I buy the aspen off and after he cleaned the system he refilled it with fresh aspen and the residue returned so he is going to clean the system through and were going torun it on normal husky low smoke.

Snowing and very cold down here on the south coast so just come in from stocking up the bird feeders, covering up the bird bath so they can have a drink in the morning and chucking a few meal worms on the sheltered bits of the borders for the ground feeders, so come on guys and girls get off the sofa and check those feeders are full please Good on a Jon for starting the thread
  22. Oh and this was thursdays Ash If I could of Id have removed the remaining piece of the butt and used it as a play house for the kids but it had splits running down it and just fell into shreds.
  23. Spent the last 3 days bashing 16 pops back into shape. Friday was rain saturday and sunday the sun shone, then today (monday) on a the birch removal we had 40 mph gusts coming off the sea and snow! I love the British weather
  24. Hi Eddie my stihl 4 cycle 2 stroke hedge cutter has been in my local dealers for a service as it was running rougher than normal:sneaky2: and on stripping it down they found that the internals of the engine and carb had a sticky residue, it was cleared and the engine run up but the mechanic still was'nt happy so stripped it back down to find the residue had returned, now the cutter has only been used with aspen, any thoughts on what and why this is happening please.
