  1. Balcome wood yard might be interested?
  2. What figures are you thinking about having a good set up going to cost you? I have recently been in a situation where I could of brought a purpose built forwarder but I just don't think the work is there and I don't want to buy a machine for it to sit around while I'm hand cutting or driving someone else's machines. I hope a contractor comes on and sheds more light on all this I just think you a taking a huge gamble and I don't think it will work to be blunt
  3. What experience of forestry do you have? The competition is huge like many others on here will tell you, for example last month we were on a job and within 3 miles there was 3 harvesters and 4 forwarders working from 3 different contractors. I think you will find it hard to go from one to the other unless you have done it all your life and have an endless list of contacts.
  4. If you had a decent forestry set up and you were bloody good at using it at £38 an hour you probably wouldn't have a day free in your diary but that is prices from the south.
  5. Exactly what Steve said
  6. From my personal experience forestry and agricultural contracting is really different in a lot of ways I know some people might just say surely it's the difference between a timber trailer or a grain trailer but the expensive between the 2 are quite a lot. Look at any forestry firms tractors and they are bashed about a lot, not on purpose but it's just the nature of the job but then agri tractors may be in better condition but have more hours on them. If you are having to ask the question of how much you should charge maybe you should step back a bit and take some more time to think about it. I'm not saying don't go buy a machine all I'm saying is put some real research into it and maybe think about just doing 1 or the other. I'm sure someone will come on and say I am wrong but this is just my personal opinion.
  7. The ones that come with the saws you might Aswell just throw them straight into the bin and go buy yourself a decent one, the Oregon one works well

    Trio Brake?

I have had some experience with one and the rear brake got in the way a lot while snedding up, obviously that's my personal experience others may say different.
  9. Forestry work is harder. I have done both but forestry tough. Doing 5L of fuel a day through a 560xp isn't easy going but then again climbing is no easy day.
  10. Worthing is a nightmare for timber going missing, I often bring a load back in my truck from the woods and almost every time I am unloading it and putting it into my back garden I have someone asking if they can "have a bit" I had a load of cord on the back just before Christmas, went into my girlfriends came out 15 minutes later and it was all gone apart from 2 bits!
  11. Henfield if that's close enough? PM me if you want more details
  12. Richard court would be the best one to use. I have worked with him and know a lot of people that use him and never hear a bad word

    395xp WANTED

I have but got a friend who wants one for spares
  15. £50 a meter
  16. The 560 is a lot narrower then the stihl so the ergonomic movement (I'm sure that's what it's called?) of the saw side to side sneedding up and use of the saw up a tree is so much easier for your wrists, arms and shoulders. I have use the stihl and it's no way near as comfortable to use 5 days a week as the 560 that is a big selling point to me. Also the 560 is amazing on fuel as it has the auto tune so it doesn't just rag it's guts out when not needed to. The air filter on my 560 never seems to block up ever, I check it twice a week and probably clean it once a month! Isn't the husky cheaper then the stihl also? My local shop is a stihl and husky dealer and every time I go in there they always have parts so must be easy to get hold of. Alasdair you use the husky 2 stroke too so run the right fuel for it. I'm sure people will disagree with me on some points I've made but it's good to see everyone's opinion when you are just about to spend £600
  17. 560xp as the husky dealer is closer to you! Plus they are better
