  1. Never, the misses likes the calls saying the part will be a day late - good customer service - and you have been sending sweets with the sprockets - hope that hasn't got your dispatch man in to trouble:lol:
  2. Yeah - Gusty Gustharts - you may even get some sweets thrown in, get most of my sprockets there:thumbup:
  3. Yeah - thanks Luke for that one:lol:
  4. I have PMed a link to you but if you have tried them then FR Jones are sponsors on the site - try them. I think the parts policy is based on Stihl being a German based company and different countries having different expectations:001_rolleyes:
  5. The 181/281 are not the easist to turn over, I have the 181SE ex army and it takes a bit of doing. When I got mine, the fast idle wasn't working - can't remember what had failed but think it was the thumb latch just in front of the throttle lock bar on the top of the handle. One sure way of testing is to leave the fast idle on when saw starts to make sure the saw races with it on. The other things are typically to make sure the choke is sealing, sounds like compression isn't lacking and lastly that the inside of the carb is clean and the fuel filter and lines are in good condition. Make sure the L screw in particular is set at around 1 turn out as you may be running it a little weak and that could cause starting issues.
  6. I have sort of got this one boxed off, I am trying a few B&C options and will be back plus I ripped as much of the baffle plate out of the 357 that I could and will retune to see the effects:thumbup:
  7. Thanks Buster, no worries, hope you get some good use out of the saws now. Always a pleasure and thanks for the good rep. All the best - Steve
  8. Pahh - join it....easy - sorry Barrie:lol: I had a Husqvarna coil that I busted the lead off and took out all the old HT lead, drove a needle in to the internal coil connection that was broken and then epoxied a new lead in pushed on to the needle. It worked fine, saved the owner some bucks and believe it is still working today. It may be an option but agree, just try to unscrew it, we really need to see where the HT lead actually goes in to the coil but good luck.
  9. No worries on both counts:thumbup:
  10. Do ya reckon we could get a 24" bar and chain on that engine - couple of handles - you could come up for the next Boys bash in Mattys yard:thumbup:
  11. Self tracking rotary cannon for me - one way to get rid of unwanted callers:thumbup:
  12. We need them for the next "Boys day out", we will cut quite a dash in our new livery:thumbup:
  13. Shall we leave it at that and all move on now, Pleasant has summed it up well, I am embarassed and probably not worthy of some of this praise from both friends and members, there are a few guys on the site capable of fixing saws and a few that will delve in to other kit as well. We have some good threads for members to glean valuable info from both the dealers thread and spud in his shed:lol: etc, all are there to share and benefit from and that is what a forum is all about IMO. Lets move on - I think the original answer was Elfinwood - give him a PM:thumbup:
  14. Not been in the game long enough to know everything - only been working on saws for around three years but engineering since I was in my early teens!
  15. Guys - thanks for the good rep, I really do appreciate the sentiment and good wishes. I will not comment any more on what has gone on here but am just glad that I help menbers understand their saws a little more and am appreciated on the Forum. I repair very little in reality and any I do are just from organic enquiries that are usually the "end of the road" fix or junk it situations, nothing more. Cheers Steve
  16. Bingo - great minds think alike - know Andy and Keith up there, useful fellas:thumbup:
  17. Good job, always like seeing kit brought back to life, nice one:thumbup:
  18. Am guessing a vintage McCulloch, does it run, perhaps we should have a pre 80s Boys day out:thumbup:
  19. Wouldn't go that far - love the sound of the 346XP:thumbup1:
  20. You will love it and love it more with a few tanks through it - nice saw:thumbup:
  21. But that would make me a .....a......a.......traveler:lol:
  22. Shame you are so far up north, you are more than welcome to use it at the next Boys day out to see what you think. Cut a lump of Oak and it was thumping like a good one, needs a bit of a fine tune on the top end but has more go than before - it backfires on starting sometimes - scares the bejesus out of you when it does it:lol: Don't get the chance to use a saw this big ever - bit overkill for my firewood!
  23. Quiet weekend, tached up the MS200T and 046 I repaired earlier in the week and did a bit of cutting with them, all was well. Fixed a couple of 100year old clocks, one going slow and the other stopping, both all OK, bit of plastering and then thought I would give my 181SE a good going over as on the "Boys day out" it was pretty boggy. Found the tank breather was plugged and that was the route cause but you know how it is, one thing leads to another and a mild porting job was on the cards - dropped the base gasket, compression up to 165psi and now fourstrokes heavily at 12,500 which was the saws maximum revs. Tached a little over 12,500 but really need some big wood to test it on and get the thing just right. Not my usual size saw, only purchased it to see what a big saw was like but the thing is in great condition with the machining marks still on the piston.
  24. I third that:thumbup: Fuel filter possibly, internal carb gauze filter very likely and also a blocked breather likely - you cna try the "leave the fuel cap loose" trick and see if it works better trick. Let us know if none of these work and we will suggest a few other things to check.
  25. Had the same saw type od saw in, Zomax brand and that recoil fell apart - fixed it and sold it on for £30 - about what it was worth IMO!
