  1. Probably 3/8, check the sprocket out by wrapping a 3/8 chain around it:thumbup:
  2. Even I don't find MS200s that exciting:lol:
  3. Yes, the left hand one - the MS200T one. The black marks are just heat marks and are generally pretty flat and just a witness mark, the aluminium will be small streaks of aluminium on the bore in the direction of the piston travel, yours doesn't look too bad but you need to make sure these are gone otherwise you will damage the rings. 180 grit and 400 to finish is about right, 240 would probably do - you are just getting the bore smooth - the engine doesn't know what it looks like! It is worth rubbing around the top end of the bore to SLIGHTLY hone it so the new piston beds in well!
  4. Your post shows one of the few differences between the MS200T cylinder and the 020T. Both are compatible, the MS200T has split transfers to stop fuel air stacking in the transfer - it turns one large single transfer port in to two smaller ones, increases velocity and lessens the risk of static fuel air vapour. The MS200T has slightly faster pickup because of it....in standard trim:thumbup: It looks like the bores arent too bad, slight witness mark of seizure, I would normally use a little chemical to shift the aluminium transfer but you may get away with rubbing it a bit with oil and semi course abrasive paper and end up with 400 grit - rub around the bore and not up and down and use sweeping movements around the bore and not in a small area. Try that and see what it looks like - if you cant feel any high spots once done, the new piston will be just fine - In have got 150 - 170psi out of worse than that:thumbup:
  5. Just finished doing the muffler mod, pressure/vac test passed, fitting new fuel pipe and carb kit next!
  6. All you do is get some big grips on the little end and screw it real tight on to the plug end with the plug in a vice.... That stops the thing coming undone - seen a few like that, mostly on your kit:lol:! To be honest, I only change them if they are the wrong type fitted by the owner, most of the plugs I have seen over the years still have nice square electrodes and will be fine for years - seems a waste to throw something good in the bin and charge for new although I know a few will say it is necesary on a service. I have only ever seen one case of spark tracking down the side of a plug and that was on a strimmer and a new plug and cap sorted it, never seen a plug fail and rarely come in worn - each one to his own:thumbup:
  7. Possibly next weekend -you got any timber that needs ringing up? Lots of work on those transfers, took a while to get them modded!
  8. Been porting a 372XP today, ended up with quite a lot of modification, exhaust port widened and reprofiled the shape, inlet widended and reprofiled, upper transfers blended and witened toward the inlet, lower transfers heavily modified and the base gasket dropped. Just doing a muffler mod and will see how it goes:thumbup:
  9. Don't want to stand in between you two, it was no trouble and glad the saw dialled in straight away - looked OK at a glance and hope the other two I did are working well:thumbup:
  10. Been struggling with an 020T, had a new piston, been vac and pressure checked, carb cleaned and the idle is all over the place, wont hold steady, the L screw is pretty hit and miss and the carb is an 020 one without the pump! Rebuilt a spare MS200T carb and did the pump mod, put it on tonight and bingo, even idle and revs out fine - think the jobs a good un:thumbup:
  11. Probably worth supplying the fresh mix fuel to go with it Jon, there are a few people out there who ain't too clever on mixing fuel and oil - those big saws take a lot of abuse in those big cuts- long drawn out cuts!
  12. Think it is time to go on Dragons Den, can just imagine the Dragons saying WTF is that:confused1:
  13. Nice job, will have to do one for myself:thumbup:
  14. Solid workhorses with a good reputation, a bit heavy by todays standards but still useable. They have a long stroke and can be a bit slappy on the bottom of the stroke so you may get a bit of engine noise on idle but apart from that, generally tough machines.
  15. Thats good news, hope it lasts out OK.
  16. Gave my 181 a mild going over but still havent cleaned the carb out as it is lacking still - the inlet port is a real strange shape so not much there, from memory the exhaust port can be widened, the piston has open ported sides so can be worked onas can the upper and lower transfers. The muffler can have another port put in it. Thas about it - can I do it.......give me a bell in a few weeks as I am pretty manic at the moment.
  17. He runs 3/8 on his 372 and 395 and lives just down the road from me! Makes his own loops so is easier if they all match. Never got round to testing 3/8 cut speed against 0.325 but think 0.325 will have the edge on this size saw and 3/8 for larger saws.
  18. I really didn't mind, glad I could turn it around, looked a pretty clean saw and glad it set up fine, some do and some don't!
  19. Think I should have read this post before texting Steve and asking him what the hell he was doing to the site, thought he was installing a new log burning server and had the dampers too low:lol: Nice to know what was going on - keep up the good work all - should be getting a few contributions in from my new signature......I hope!
  20. Think I was running an 18" bar against your 15" and have since done a little more.....breathing on it since - reckon it would be an interesting contest now.
  21. It happens - I go down the road and rev the knackers off them for 10-15 minutes and then give them a day and try them stone cold and even then I get the very odd one that can give issues - I now try to tweak the L screw when pretty much cold as this is usually when the saw plays up most. Had one member call me at the weekend, said could he run a MS200T in, he arrived, found out he had just purchased the saw and got some money off as the saw wasnt idleing at all well. I didn't want yet another one kicking around so a couple of minutes lated had dialled in the L screw, brought down the idle speed, popped out the limit cap and dialled in 14krpm. All spot on:thumbup: Then found out he had spent all his cash on saws:001_rolleyes: never mind, he is a past customer and recently dropped a couple of mates saws round so I am sure he will be knocking on the door in due course! All part of the service:thumbup:
  22. Can't better that advice - spot on:thumbup:
  23. Went to pressure check the 020T I have been refurbing, had a new piston fitted. Came up clean on the vac check but leaked a little under pressure - closer inspection showed the impulse line leaking on the joint with the crankcase. I guess the attention to detail is why my services are sought after - just shows that the regeim I use to service saws pulls out the faults - also replaced the seals on an MS200T as this also was leaking under pressure.
  24. Yeah - I use fairy piss - I leave a bottle down by the compost heap at night and the fairys fill it up. I have heard leprechaun piss is equally as good but harder to get hold of:lol: Go study a chemistry book and the rest is down to semi fine and fine abrasive paper.
