Yup and I have read the thread that accompanied that vid and it is what I have found - the exhaust port can be widened but by not that much, the inlet port can barely be widened - if anyone disagrees then feel free to do so and snag the rings:001_rolleyes: The squish can be lowered by around 0.4 - 0.5mm and the muffler can be modded that can make a decent difference. Peter is right, don't know if he is repeating what I have found but it is fact. The only thing I haven't tried is messing with the ignition timing.
  3. Yup, thats Brad in the US, he does some pretty trick stuff to many saws, asked him for a bit of advice here and there - cheaper than forking up expensive cylinders! I think Burrell would like to test out the 372 when done as he has just got a busted one for fixing!

Bingo:thumbup: He shoots, He scores:lol: the grey tube is a pipe, when the saw is on its side and running, it stops the fuel seeping out of the breather that is connected to the outside end of the pipe. If you have a can of carb cleaner or WD40, you need to point the thin plastic pipe to around where this grey plastic tube exits which wil be near where the fuel pipe also exits. Chances you have a lot of oily crud laying on the breather blocking it. Generally it will be a piece of permeable fibre or that sintered metal breather material. The AV mounts are Anti Vibration mounts, they normally locate on to springs or rubbers eithar side of the tank and if you undo both, the fuel tank will drop a bit and enough to get a bit of solvent or cleaner to the breather to clean it. Best option is to drive it out to give it a good clean but next best is to clean the surface of it! Good luck
  5. Found the fault with my strimmer last night - the union is spinning round the shaft, think I will bond it and then pin it - that should sort it. Just need to make sure it all fits together OK when back together! Back to the kit in the workshop - four carb kits ordered, a new MS200 brake handle and new fuel lines - the owner is going over to Aspen and also has varying problems on the saws. The 372 looks like it may port well - another solid sided piston which means the ports can be widened considerably which is always good news!
  6. Ah, that sounds like a blocked breather, try the saw again and as soon as it is running, tilt the saw so it is almost on its side and loosen the fuel cap, my thinking is it will run fine. If it does, the fuel tank vent pushes in from near where the fuel line goes in to the tank, you will probably have to push it out from inside the tank by pushing on the long grey tube that runs along the top of the tank or cleaning the outside of the breather by undoing the AV connections and getting a bit of a gap between the handle and engine cradle!

I don't use the thing much, purchased it just to do a bit round the garden but the union went, I repaired it and now I think it is tight and is pushing somethhing out in the clutch, it is really a piece of poop but can't spend out a fortune on something that gets used twice a year - it has the pole cutter and hedge trimmer attachment etc. Tried it again today and the union was tight but wasnt getting drive from the clutch - not got time to sort, cracking on with another 2 MS200s, a MS260, porting a 372....yes Burrell - a 372!! and got another load of stuff coming in. For the record, until I shift this lot, I won't be entertaining saying yes to more kit in.....you will have to wait a bit....sorry but c'est la vie!!
  8. The fuel tank needs clearing of old fuel, put new mix in it. As for changing the carb...Nah, let the new fuel come through, try revving it lightly and seee if it will settle. If it revs up Ok then increase the idle a little but make sure the chain doesn't spin once a good steady idle has been achieved. The carb may need a clean but not a new one!

  11. The misfire could be loads of things from fuel to ignition etc, was the new P&C OEM - the Chinese ones can be hit and miss on bore to cylinder fit, squish and port bevel and timing! If you do a decent size cut, what colour does the plug go? As a previous post, if the air filter is removed (leaner running) does it rev out better? It may be an air leak causing bogging or too much fuel! Is the L screw on factory, if you leave it on idle for a few minutes then give it a load of throttle, does it smoke a lot? If the saw ran fine before the file episode (am guessing the file broke and messed the bore???) has anything else been done or just a new P&C fitted.

Well that diaphragm even gave me self doubt, after I have had one of these apart and done all I know to be good, it is almost definite that the saw will fire and to have it sit there wearing me out wasn't good. Great feeling nailing it and that compression........and a muffler mod......it is going to fly:thumbup:

One of the two MS200Ts had a bad thread on the exhaust so rather than stick it back as is, drilled, tapped and inserted a new helicoil with a smear of high temp bearing lock:thumbup: I have also had around three of the six MS200Ts I have recently done have the throttle lock not working - the reason is the spring is on the wrong side of the throttle lock as in the pic:001_rolleyes: Lastly, got a Stihl hedge trimmer in for poor idle, stripped the carb and put it in the US cleaner, reset it and sharpened the blades, purrs like a kitten:lol:

Busy weekend, been doing a bit of ground maintenance down at the village church, they wanted volunteers and there you go, hacking at nettles with a scythe because my poxy McCuloch strimmer let me down - fecking thing!! Anyway, got a couple of MS200s in from a member, this one was new to him and wasn't very good, I measured 135psi so made a few....tweaks and is now running 185psi - highest I have seen yet:thumbup: flippin thing wouldn't start, after stripping the carb five times and finding th eneedle valve was leaking under pressure, found that the diaphragm fitted was wrong - the central rivit was far too high keeping the needle open:001_rolleyes: This saw will rip now as the muffler has been moded and with that compression:thumbup: The next one had the crb boot retaining plate UNDER the boot - no wonder it wasn't running right. The pic is how it should look......Did the usual pressure and vac checks, cleaned the carb ans overhauled the chain brake - replaced a spring and all was good.
  15. The 3120 has a fixed H jet and you can only adjust the L jet. If it is running rich at the top end then I would suspect something is wrong with what has been done! Has the carb been apart since the repair? The first thing I would check is the metering arm height is correct. Is the saw fourstroking at the top end, how did the piston/pot fail in the first place, has the route cause been found, is the P&C OEM or aftermarket? Good luck
  16. Ive cut up pallets before and used to get a good bed of embers for hard wood logs. They burn fine and are good to get a fire in to life and good heat. They are a PITA to cut up, youn need a couple of old chains and a rough saw but once you have a few large well stacked cardboard boxes full, they last a long time!

Sounds a bit like fuel starvation on the high speed part of the carb, could be fuel filter, fuel line or just crap in the carb, worth looking at all of those - worth also loosening the fuel cap and seeing if that helps to elliminate tank vent issues. Check that guaze filter - a common issue with all small carbs!

Yes, the saw is crap Chinese - only buy if you are overweight and fancy working out a bit as you will be yanking that handle and awful lot . . . . .and picking up the parts that fall off:lol: I would stick to Stihl , Husqvarna, Sachs Dolmar/Makinta and Jonsered - in fact PM me with your budget, I may have something that will fit in the 60cc bracket and in damn fine condition - both will last years! Thats a Dolmar 116SI or a Jonsered 630 for those inquisitive types:001_rolleyes:

  20. Seen similar on a little DOlmar 100 - had a big brass fuel filter that had worn the inside of the fuel tank and the plastic powder ended up as an orange plug in the gauze filter!

  22. You may be able to disable the factory off switch and put in another - not sure where it would go and would need an appropriate cavity to fit it in. Think many operators are running their saws without the black wire attached to the top handle on their saws and using the choke instead:001_rolleyes:
  23. On with the next MS200Ts, this one is bogging down in the cut after a bit of use, have put the carb in the US cleaner but got to say it looked OK, piston is clean, exhaust ported on customers request. It has passed the pressure and vac tests so seals, boots and impulse line are OK.
  24. Back to the MS200T fest, the saw known as "BEN" is now running, found out late last night that the piston was toast, cleaned the bore this morning and had a new Meteor piston kicking around, fitted a thinner base gasket and the saw responded nicely, good compression, level idle and revs nicely, just waiting for a couple of spares. Checked the chain brake out and it was full of crud, the tie bar had broken as had the flat leaf spring which is a very common problem on brakes full of old sawdust. Fitted new parts and it clicks on and off nicely. Pressure checks and vac test passed fine:thumbup:
