    560 woes

Well, I met Mr Pinkfoot and have now been at his saw...not good news as the bits of piston found their way in to the combustion chamber and when the piston came up, the crown hit the pieces, couldn't go any further and that force was put on the small and big end, smashing them up:thumbup: Amazingly, the cylinder is fine and now have a way forward so repair is on the cards.
  2. They aren't sweets, they are two part epoxy that you squeeze to mix.....damn strong stuff......Doh! Hope you have a good dentist:lol: (Just joking!!!)
  3. Try this link - http://www.motoculture-jean.fr/upload/pdf/MS260.pdf
  4. Something tells me that you will get 190-200psi on a healthy MS200 and will gain torque and speed in the cut:thumbup:
  5. The elasto start mechanism helps a lot once the compression gets up to the 200psi mark!
  6. Could be the throttle cable is chaffed. First thing to do is to make sure the throttle arm on the carb is actually fully closed on idle and go from there. You can push it closed with your finger or screwdriver!
  7. The main thing is to thoroughly degrease the broken walls so the epoxy bonds well. JB is good stuff!
  8. Can we have a whip round to get this fella a new saw and give this one a burial as it is taking over the whole site:001_rolleyes:

There will be a slight hesitation in the saw, admittedly it may be small but it will still be there. I personally find the 020T carbs bloody sensitive on the L screw as the high and low circuits are not independent and have many more issues adjusting these carbs than the later accelerator pump carbs. One came back 300 miles to have the low screw turned 1/8th turn and was then "perfect"....frustrating doesn't come close to it and I know how to adjust them:sneaky2: Give me he later C1Q carb any day!
  10. It will last just fine as long as the areas were degreased. No need to over engineer some repairs - the tank doesn't hold high pressure or vacuum so should last just fine and a low cost and relatively simple repair.
  11. Bugger me....so it is....looks like some of the wife's cooking:sneaky2: Looks like a new one needed.
  12. I was 20 years in Manufacturing, 13 years in Sales and now fixing saws for you lot and completely unrelated to my previous employment. It helps having a positive outlook, being realistic and doing something you get a kick out of doing as it will rub off on anyone you meet or talk to. If your plan is financially viable, you are physically able and the figures stack up, go for it.
  13. Try a couple of self tappers with some JBweld around them. The tank is under little pressure and if you degrease the area sufficiently well, it will hold fine. I have effected a similar repair and it never came back! Surprised you didn't feel the vibes!
  14. Thanks for the heads up, just let my customers with these machines know. Wouldn't want them going up in flames but is probably overkill but best to advise them. Cheers
  15. Don't use the screw in stop as you are very likely to fracture the crown of your piston. Either hold the plastic stop in place or use a bit of rope but make sure the piston crown is above the exhaust port before stuffing it in. The MS261 is one of the easier ones to shift. Try a longer tommy bar:thumbup:
  16. Try closing the gap down a bit and see if it helps. Not worth changing anything unless it fails completely!
  17. Looks to me to be beyond payment in £££ and a very nice gift. A nice new possession and thoughtful from the fella!

Nope - just inspect the piston that comes out and then swap out the o ring or piston and ring depending on wear. If it doesn't last, I then do the mod but generally a new pump kit sorts the issue. I just like to try to get the carb working as was intended rather than work around the proper fix as you can get a hesitant pick up from the mod but do see it as a viable fix if the new pump fails quickly. Ream and custom pump.....you having a laugh:sneaky2:
  19. Sounds about right and make sure you change the gauze strainer or fuel screen as they call it!
  20. Probably lean, just service the fuel system and see what that does.
  21. I think it is only the old farts that understand how engines work:lol:

The 201 carb won't fit, sounds a bit like the L screw is a bit rich and the saw is picking up fuel and eventually flooding it. It is possible that the choke flap is sticking half closed making the saw lumpy, had that before. This is probably why I get so many of these saws in. It takes rebuilding a few before you find the fixes that make a real difference. I personally don't block the pumps now as it does cause lag in the pickup - just my preference.
  23. With age comes experience and knowledge plus plenty of other things:thumbup:
  24. Always a pleasure:sneaky2:
