  1. I'm with Trust. £5 million is recommended, it's good for LA work or companies you're subbying for. Got my tools through them as well.
  2. Well I "graduated" a mere 2 months ago, after waiting too long to discover what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. Now I hope eventually live up to the title of arborist after years of hard work and learning that i've got ahead of me....unless I become a millionaire, then I'm off!
  3. My experience of it last december was that it was about good work positioning, appropriate cuts demonstrated on branches of a suitable size. Cutting vertical and horizontal branches, i.e chogging down as well. Great assessor, wanted to see a good pace as well as doing it safely, and also doing some good limbwalking as well, to get a feel for what it's like in the real world of tree work. Did my 39 in the snow and loved it. Still got a lot to learn!
  4. Also I think, but I'm not sure, that they have a sort of lock-on switch that keeps the throttle on without having to squeeze the trigger. Just what you want hanging off yer harness in the canopy!
  5. If I can save up enough I'd definitely do it.
  6. Isn't it nice when people go to a lot of effort and invest in saving a wonderful tree. Cracking stuff!
  7. I'm not an expert by a long way, but I know I'm doing some hazel coppicing next week. I always thought feb was a good time to do it...coppicing that is.
  8. Looking at all this makes me think I've got such a lot to learn! I'm back in the dark ages hip-thrusting up on a klemheist! Great videos everyone, really helpful.
  9. Thanks for advice all. Will photoshop a naked lady in ASAP!
  10. 'Tis true, I don't think it would've gone over without the "push!"
  11. Right, first picture post. I open myself up for ridicule from all and sundry! Oak from today, 15in DBH. Split level cut.
  12. Same with my husqy 357. Just feather it and it'll pick up all right.
  13. Sorry, bit late, but thanks for reply Alex.
  14. I use the distel aly ones, they're very light compared to the leather/steel ones I used at college. I think they're better but I can only speak for myself.
  15. Used it one-handed today, to be fair it was my first climbing job since passing me 39 in December. It's what it was designed for. Just use common sense.
  16. Hi alex, what would you recommend instead of a rope grab? I've used the ISC one, have thought of trying a simple prussik.
  17. Thanks Steve. PM sent
  18. Cheers buddy.
  19. Hi UKBushmonkey, Thanks for info. I left college just a couple of weeks ago. Went to give a quote today for a bit of leylandii removal, fingers crossed!
  20. Hello again everyone. Just a quick update, have now got CS38 and 39. Have been doing some tree work for the last week or so and have some more booked for Jan, but am currently available to help out as a groundie for anyone if they need it. I have my own PPE, groundsaw and other tools and can provide a reference. PM or general message I don't mind. Cheers
  21. I use an 18" on my Husqy 357. It's lurverly! Although to be honest, a 15" would do just as well.
  22. Husqy 357xp. 18in bar. What a beauty!
  23. Just a quick thanks to F R Jones for my saw and other bits. Cracking!
  24. Really sad. Yet another story of exploitation of cheap labour.
  25. That's quite worrying that one company said that they'd never heard of the nationally recognised NPTC units! Having just spent a small fortune on acquiring 30, 31, 38 and 39 in order to get the correct insurance, I'm wondering myself which would be the right insurer to go with.
