  1. Laburnum. I've got the rootball to turn from the same tree. Been itching to turn it for two years but keep on waiting! Just realise that I never got back to you bellringer with the list. It's ever growing and changing but I will endeavour to get it over to you. Apologies for the delay! Got some nice catalpa last week. Might have to try microwaving some to speed up the drying process!! http://www.aatreesurgeon.co.uk
  2. I did indeed! Wow. Very pleased with my selection. Used it to carve up some venison loin cooked over an open fire last weekend, what a joy! That gave meaning to 'like a knife through butter'! http://www.aatreesurgeon.co.uk
  3. Great thread! Here is a small bowl I turned for my fiancé to put her jewellery in at night. It's not the grandest of bowls but I wanted to show how incredible Acacia burr is!!!! Such a beautiful timber and so stable to work with too. And here is a nice batch of blanks I'm going to be getting stuck into over the coming weeks http://www.aatreesurgeon.co.uk
  4. Loving the TV sets in the headrests silky! Sweet truck mate. http://www.aatreesurgeon.co.uk
  5. My 30th birthday present to myself. Got it at a wood fair in September from green man knives. It is an amazing tool. http://www.aatreesurgeon.co.uk
  6. The first paragraph sums it up very nicely! http://www.aatreesurgeon.co.uk
  7. Wow that is some effort! Was it manageable alongside work? My biggest fear about taking on something like that would be not keeping up with either the coursework or business admin (I'm already terrible at the latter!). http://www.aatreesurgeon.co.uk
  8. Very true. Having gone through my figures I now realise I HAVE GOT to get my overheads down. And certain items of machinery are not earning their keep. http://www.aatreesurgeon.co.uk
  9. Very good advice, I wish I could learn from it. My paperwork is a mess. There are times where all I seem to be doing is paying for metal and paying everybody else. Onwards am upwards as they say!! http://www.aatreesurgeon.co.uk
  10. Was it an inside job, Given that there was supposed to be 24 hour manned security? Very sorry to hear about the theft. http://www.aatreesurgeon.co.uk
  11. I reckon you might be onto something there rich!!
  12. I did hear whilst on the assesment that strictly speaking there is a limit for all three elements combined but we had more than ample time to carry out the inspection, complete the exam and do the fungi ident. Put it this way, at no point did I feel rushed.
  13. Ah, bit far for me to travel (on the cheeky off chance is was going to be for sale!).
  14. We were warned that we would/could be marked down for not being detailed enough.
  15. Are you planning on going down that bloody awful ox drove again matt?!
  16. Incredible grain and figuring. Whatever it is I would love to turn with some!
  17. Interesting, we were told to go into lots and lots of detail. I suppose every training provider has there different take on it!
  18. If he was acting like that he doesnt sound like someone who would be too keen to pay or someone id like to do business with for that matter! You will sell those logs no problem to someone else who is grateful and happy to pay you with a smile. Dont give him another thought mate, he can jog on!
  19. Haha, as a group we smashed through a lot of biscuits!! http://www.aatreesurgeon.co.uk
  20. Indeed I did. Top bloke, he has taught me pretty much most of my theory based knowledge over the years. http://www.aatreesurgeon.co.uk
  21. Did my PTI mon tues weds this week. You should be given all the notes you will need for the exam part and fungi ident. Focus on trees and the law, ie duty of care, common/statute law.... Axiom of uniform stress, phenological calendar of trees, structural defects, learn the colonisation strategy and decay mode of fungi plus their significance on trees, health and safety relating to tree inspections. For the inspection practical, don't miss anything, be very very thorough, noting with reference to height in metres and location (using compass) where the defect is. Work methodically around the tree so you cant miss something obvious (someone missed a fungal bracket of ganoderma australe that had been planted in the butress at the base of the stem) Make sure your recommendations include lots of detail. Including a timescale for the works and or re inspections. Enjoy and good luck! http://www.aatreesurgeon.co.uk
  22. Yew is amazing timber . Both for milling and for turning. Have you any pictures of your fallen tree?
