  1. thanks andy for the reply i have tried that way also as well as many other ways all apple trees are different some have bigger limbs some have none, we found out the easyest way if they have big (ish) limbs is to log on the tree, standing it acts as the stablest saw hourse, also if you leave apple wood to season then log it it goes very hard and you use more chains and it needs more oil lube! also and this is the point that i think this thread is aimed at you have to handle the timber again, there is no easy way of making money from coppice or small felling, even if i hired a 360 with a share or a harvester, it still costs, ...........oh well only another 4999 to go:001_rolleyes:
  2. i sympathise with you and your pradicament, i have 5000 apple trees to grub up over a period of time (not as short a time line as 6 days) but as with coppicing wood alot of handling and messing around, we prune the tree then tidy all the brush from around the row then log it (and collect the logs) then fell the trunk then grub it then push the brush up into heaps then burn the brush and roots, my point is that wheather it be coppice or in my case from an orhard its not as clear cut and fell as with the woodland guys , i was asked why the price of my wood was higher than "normal hard wood" prices :its because you do a little bit more work, for the same product. imo:001_rolleyes:

  16. yes it is really isnt it , as i stated before each tree is pruned ,felled and moved by hand . with the price of oil and energy on the increase you probabley will see cord hardwood hitting these highs a year from now, we allredy sell to a costomer at that price who says'' that he will sell it out double the price'' i suppose its what people are willing to pay! sorry if this offends you egg:confused1:
