  1. I see a van around my way, marnic chainsaw carving. I don't know if anyone knows him, or if he comes on here. Maybe worth googling and dropping him an email. ..
  2. If you mean the one in your avatar you have a deal, just let me dig a hole under the patio for my wife first...
  3. Apology accepted kind sir. That is what I wondered, looks like a very good and even covering for a impact damag; ; evenmore so for chestnut. Thanks
  4. I've not yet got it, but have recently done a lot of research into the other options available and am now saving the pennies for pt mapper. It seems like the best option for me due to ease of use as I don't get on well with computers. It may not be cheap but you don't need a separate cad programme and associated costs. Give them a call, they are very helpful. Alternatively contact James England at [email protected] for other options and comprehensive info on the various handheld data capture devices and software, which he can also supply or loan. Good luck. ..
  5. Am I being blind, where is the rigi? Also whats with the pale patch between the epicormic in pic 4?
  6. I'm not sure where I got this book from as I have never been on the course. I found it while cleaning out some old files and folders and thought someone here could benefit from it. So, it goes free to whoever can convince me that they deserve. Credit will be given for sob stories and comedy. The judge (me) will have the final decision, but may be swayed by overwhelming support for any particular arbtalker. You have until midnight Fri...
  7. I should add it has previously been trimmed as a shrub, until the current tenants moved in a few years ago. ..
  8. Ive not seen it yet, but it sounds like they are around that size...
  9. Quick question. Bay tree in conservation area, many small stems, approx 20 foot tall. Would you say a tree and requiring notification, or a large shrub, go ahead and 'prune' to 3 or 4 foot?
  10. Oh Rob, don't get slack now your course is over! This (if im right!) is more of an understorey species, though its name eludes me
  11. Perhaps the gravel when new reflected more heat than the previous surface, another contributing factor perhaps?
  12. Old sun scorch/drought/armillaria?

    Any Arbpoets

Three hundred year in peace until, If I'd an ear I'd hear a Stihl. Giving shelter from driving hail, Hosting oyster shrooms to grill. Three hundred more I'd live yet still, Edging closer you rev the Stihl. Your grandfather remembers well, Watching over as autumn fell. Three hundred year atop this hill, Hands like leather hold firm the Stihl. Getting louder prepared to kill, So it is here my blood will spill. Three hundred year in peace until, If I'd an ear I'd hear a Stihl. Cutting deeper my limbs you pull, So it is hear my blood will spill.
  14. I wanted to but have a job here I can't postpone. Perhaps you could let us all know the important bits?

    Big green beetle?

It looks right (with an old cherry in said garden with gano induced hollows and big deadwood- my reason for visiting! ) but at 20mm far too small.

    Big green beetle?

Nope none of those, like a scarab beetle, but great diving beetle size. Habitat was colchester town centre small back garden, very urban. Perhaps a small pond in a nearby garden? It was flying around early afternoon in scorching hot dry weather. It seemed very interested in the brick built shed's door. Does that help?!
  18. Yesterday I encountered a big green flying beetle. It was around an 1-1.5 inches long, a clumsy flier, sounding like a hornets drone, and metallic green. I have no photo but imagine it's so distinctive anyone who knows what the thing is will guess. So, any suggestions anyone? !
  19. Couldn't organise a pi55 up in brewery. Only dead fish go with the flow.
  20. Almost like an extreme case of fasciation...
  21. Never seen a gall/burl like that on sc, in fact never quite like that on anything! You have an idea of the culprit Tony? One for the PhD, or just the mantlepiece?!
  22. That's fantastic, what species?
  23. He doesnt have to be happy with it, and the council will not want to know. What he thinks is dangerous might not be. All you need to do is all that is reasonable to be sure they are not a hazard. What may be reasonable for you and your available finances is to get a reputable tree surgeon to remove dead/broken/obviously dangerous branches and advise whether any are decayed or otherwise hazardous. A better option if funds allow may be a written report (to show your neighbours) by a consultant. It should be comprehensive, and may be just as cheap as a tree surgeon team for a day or two if it recommends little or no work is actually needed.
  24. I think the problem was overtaking on a blind bend, it sounds like a lot of bikes on procession, how long was he on that blind bend with nowhere to pull back over? Very silly and dangerous manoeuvre from what I can see. Although only saying what I can see from one perspective. ..
  25. Found this useful photographic gall ident type page when looking to id (what turns out to be) ash midrib gall... http://www.hainaultforest.co.uk/3Other%20tree%20galls.htm
