Anyone on here either ICF or AA registered consultant? I wonder what benefits you think each brings, and the best route to take to achieve either status? Comments from anyone registered or not are welcomed, thank you...
  3. Agreed sod my conscience, I must be more militant and less nice, minimum fee regardless!
  4. Opinions please: I was asked to carry out a 5837 survey on a site with outline planning, but no prior tree reports. This followed concerns from a neighbour over their trees. The report found there were no trees to be included in the AIA/TCP! For clarity I showed how this conclusion was reached, ie. rpa of tree the neighbours were worried about. It didn't take very long and included no trees in the end, so I feel unjust asking for a normal 5837 report price. What sort of price might you all suggest? Including travel time etc. probably took about 2 or 3 hours. I know the usual replies of 'what are your overheads etc', I just feel bad charging a minimum fee for such little work! Thoughts....
  5. Which would work on other fungi too?
  6. I heard, though don't know the truth, that it is cardboard cut-out of his dead dog, which passed shortly before the photo was due to be taken. I can believe it!
  7. Is there no cavity? No scratch marks, and the 'oil' or 'droppings' looks more like exudates from the tree. Recent woodpecker damage perhaps?

    Beetles?

Only had phone with me so poor pics, but any ideas? Loads on a rosemary bush, they were incredibly metallic looking, with what look just like painted metallic stripes...
  10. Has it always had the lean? Hard to say from pics. It doesn't look promising, given the target if it were to fail and the size of the tree, I think best remove it...

    BRE test?

Hi all, off to look at a 5837 job tomorrow and the client has said the lpa want a BRE test due to a neighbours objection to the planning app. I've never heard of it! From what I can gather it's regarding the right to light, and I think it is not a job for an arb. I will call and speak with the la before site visit but wondered if anybody here could shed some light? Thanks
  13. Yep, FC permission overrides local authority protection as far as I know...
  14. Best practice would say say a third (10 feet). Plus a tickle off the sides
  15. Beastly
  16. Pleurotus ostreatus, too far gone to be worth eating. Check the fungi directory above...

    Baby names!

Thank everyone for the replies, we're getting there!
  18. That's true, but god knows how ill pay for it!
  19. Highly unlikely unless they are already very stressed. There's a corker of a lop and top down the road from me, will see if I can get photos.
  20. That's what I thought
  21. Fantastic old (lime?) tree, very impressive! Any idea on the fungi within?
  22. Not a species or location I am familiar with I'm afraid. I see no reason to 'fell and replant' as long as you are happy with a hole in your tree! Perhaps an American arbtalker can offer more specific advice, treeseer perhaps?
  23. Hmm, quite an extensive cavity! I can't tell what the species is, and am based in UK so don't know how it would respond over in Texas, or what usa best practice is. That said, I would if possible without causing further damage to the tree remove the remaining concrete. Also bearing in mind the proximity to the house, if you want to retain the tree consider a hefty reduction (species dependant) to lessen the leverage on the trunk. Or, if the species will tolerate it, consider a pollard; which would need recutting every few years.
  24. We ask all of you , who wish Hamadryad to survive, to sign the petition underneath! Thank you sooo much !!! http://www.hamadryad.be/
  25. Most likely it will be ok, try to leave it a few years before any more pruning, it may have depleted its reserves. As an aside someone once told me if you press your ear against a hornbeam at the right time of year you can hear the sap moving. Don't know if there's any truth in it though!
