Missed the last half of it, who killed who?
  5. No need to treat with anything but a nice 'target cut'
  6. All too common... At 20-25 foot, minus the regrowth, they may be a reasonable height to maintain as a pollard?
  7. Need a little more info methinks, pics of tree and its surroundings perhaps?
  8. What an odd observation, I know of one who smoked Taylor mades...
  9. I might not be right!
  10. Pretty sure you would, I think it is at the discretion of the Pti provider to decide whether you experience would qualify you. 80% sure level 3 is a recommendation only...
  11. Agreed, the very people okaying the specs (TO's) don't IME have a solid grasp of the old doc, let alone the new one! And the vast majority of tree surgeons around my way will twist the specs to suit themselves, and are very generous with their %s on reductions, effectively looping and topping in many cases. Many don't seem to have heard there is a new 3998, one I spoke to thought it was a tractor! They are never questioned by lpa's or anyone else. Without someone enforcing the work done, and maybe treating blatant 'misinterpretation' of specs as damage to tpo'd trees, I don't see the changes it should make becoming a reality anytime soon...
  12. As I understand it, it isn't a level on the qualifications framework, but it is a pre-requisite (or maybe just recommendation) that you have a level 3 to take and pass the pti. I may well be wrong...
  13. Sounds like a very interesting job thanks for posting, a few questions if I may... You say this is first project of its kind in the UK; how much success has it had elsewhere? With the same contaminants? Are deep planting techniques as self explanatory as they sound? To get roots in the ground water sooner? What is currently growing on site, and is any of it seen as beneficial and to be left? What is TCE? A number of other methods are being implemented to reduce the impact to the river arrow; any more info? Just a couple more... Please could you further explain how hydraulic containment works/helps? How do you expect the contaminants to affect what tree related mycorrhizal species will be present? I'd be curious about Gerrits view on this Sorry for all the questions! Just to be clear I don't mean to pry or question the validity of this method, I'm simply interested in its detail
  14. Pm received, will get it in the post early next week. Fantastic little book, very well laid out and informative, certainly worth buying! Yes I'm surprised at the lack of takers too? Perhaps a kindly mod would sticky the thread detailing how it works, whats on offer, and the thread titles of relevant books? Just a thought....
  15. Yes it is, about time someone else had a look!
  16. Hopefully some good can come of it
  17. What was the damage in aid of? hope something can spring back...
  18. Take as much time as you need, or none at all, its ok to give up on it! :sly:
  19. I did a small one years ago with a pedestrian grinder, wear waterproof trousers!
  20. Bottom left of first pic is a spider plant, doing very well, to give an idea of growing conditions in said room...
  21. I don't think it is a grass, had a 'succulent' look and feel to it. Any suggestions would be good
  22. Never looked in the west, but there are about as many hispidus brackets as there are ash trees here in the south east!
  23. Edit... growing in doorway to reptile house, but not a hot or humid environment itself
  24. Any help on this one Rob? Sorry it isn't a tree! Growing at Colchester zoo...
  25. The AA recommend £500,000 minimum, I think more is desirable, ie £1 million. If you feel the work you do could result in a larger claim, up your amount...
