  1. 1 yes 2 yes 3 ? 4 most likely secondary causes, although stress caused by another problem could have been the precursor to a biotroph gaining entry, and yes it is in the interest of biotrophic parasites to leave the tree alive.

    Wages??

Or on benefits getting paid cash. Another common problem...

    Wages??

Yes it is cheap, but with so many people going it alone and competing, getting a job cheap is better than no money/job! Especially when so many of them have shiny trucks or chippers they owe money on... Most of them aren't seen again a year after they show up, I wonder why? :sneaky:

    Wages??

I was on 21000 as an employed climber (a good one before you ask!).21 days holiday, no sick pay minimum 9 hr days, no scope for much if any more, £20 at Xmasan considered a bonus. You'd be very lucky to earn more in south east. Self employed, all own gear and saws £100 a day average, 120 considered very good.£150 subbing with van and chipper. I would hope a busy consultant earnt more than that.

    Wages??

Does seem piss poor! I think they were involved in the ireton beech tree surveys a little while ago. I think a larger company will always pay as little they can get away with. Sad but true
  6. Didn't get any pm, no worry though. Glad they were ok
  7. Thanks Gerrit. That wasn't the biggest Hama, some were about 12 inches! Had me thinking they were something else, but am sure that's what they are.
  8. Tons P i on wood chip mulch bed, and some unidentified little'uns
  9. Mycena, inclinata gallerina? On oak.
  10. A perfectly valid excuse, will use that one myself did you get the leaves I sent? They were suber weren't they?
  11. More obvious with fruit Have some self belief Rob!
  12. Also, is this decayed F h on oak? M.o as per Hamas theory fits, ie edge of necrosis on border between living/dead wood
  13. found these handsome A m with oak And these with hornbeam Lots about this year
  14. No acorns, sorry about the blur, camera phone and getting a bit dark.
  15. Easy one
  16. I wondered that, but thought the stipe was too central, and didn't recall hearing of them on the ground/roots. Maybe my gut was right after all....
  17. I found these large fungi seemingly growing from the base of an ash, with yew underneath as well. I think they may be coming from a buttress root just under the ground. The card in the pic is average business card size for scale. They were well past their best, but appeared to have (or have had) pores. They had a slight mushroomy smell, and a thick sturdy stem which was fairly central. The cap was slightly funnel shaped, and not perfectly circular. So, any ideas?
  18. Meeow!.... lol Don't worry about the derail
  19. That's the one, but can picus not do 3d imaging as well?
  20. Interesting article. He certainly has a point, and it will be interesting to further work done. Been a while since I read it but I seem to recall mention of more research being ongoing (at Myerscough?)
  21. I heard rinntech mentioned as being better than picus a couple of years ago, but misheard it as ring tech and funny enough couldn't find any info! Just stumbled upon it now however, and wondered if anyone here had experience good or bad?
  22. Also is Slaters criticism the one published in the journal, or is it another? Thanks
  23. Do it Rob, nothing like a bit controversy to get chins waging!
  24. Interesting point well raised after all, a tree does not wait for dysfunction to progress to decay before compartmentalisation.
