  1. The biggest single thing we always do is install a rescue line- it is just a spare rope draped over a crotch and hitched out the way- I am so bad with a throw line that it would save at least an hour on any rescue!
  2. Has anyone seen or come across biodegradable or eco friendly log nets or bags? It has got to be one of the worst single use plastics and I would really like to find an alternative to plastic nets maybe jute or hessian ? Any help would be great thank you ?
  3. Great vertical weld?
  4. Just started mine aswell, was going to do cam belt and now am having the engine out new clutch and chassis paint! She is an eBay purchase, ex army 54k 2.5 na, enjoying a new project!
  5. There was a thread here somewhere that looked at the formation of epicormic on beech, it was thought that in some cases the tearing effect of the cambium encouraged shoots to form from using an axe or spike wounds . I m not brave enough to try it though!
  6. Bin it and invest in a silver bull one from tree kit! What is the point in carrying some wet wipes and a mouldy plaster up a tree? If you have an accident chances are it will be a big torn jagged cut from a saw chain! They aren't cheap but neither is a new arm! Just saying! It it has loops in all corners for zip ties a big belt attachment and a loop inside to help get the bandage out one handed.
  7. That's really interesting work, where I work at an nt property, we have an oak avenue, the application of wood chip has significantly reduced compaction along with moving the path, and also there has been a noticeable increase in vitality of the trees. However, we have also lost several large trees due to compaction, with visitor numbers increasing I think we are on a loosing battle. As an aside I did read an article about the major oak and the over wood-chipping. Thank you for sharing,
  8. Bob Carmichaels Volvo f88 cannot be still going surely?? It's been 10 years since I last saw it, and it had done 3 million miles then!

If you get the option pick an easy tree to climb and have a sneaky practice before hand, practice where to put campybum saver, take your time and don't rush! Good luck let us know how you do:thumbup:
  11. Great video reg, nice to have a high tie in, interesting to see your static redirect, I guess it means you aren't pulled about as the the rigging goes tight? I'm trying to learn more about redirects. and great to see you using battery saws, they are my favourite tool and very underrated. Rich
  12. Hi reg, I have just watched the video, thanks for sharing, just a quick question- there was a thread on here a while back about allowing for your flip line to break away if the stem had failed leaving you on the ceder anchor- from the video were you clipped in to your side d's or did you make any break away provision? Hope that makes sense? It's always great to learn from seeing your skills and theory! Cheers rich
  13. Very impressive tree reg, must have been bad to need a dust mask! I hope I never come across anything as bad as that!, thanks for sharing, keep your videos comming and stay safe, rich
  14. Hi Harry can recommend a ct one, if you get a petzl I think you need a locking krab to stop the rope popping out, I did try a stein the other week and it seemed to keep going in to neutral? If your foot was at the wrong angle, A knee ascender is also great as as you load both legs not just one
  15. Had a go with the captain today and very pleased with it! Works very nicely with a distal and a pinto on to the bridge. It was great as we could access limbs at a distance that normally would need to be able to retrieve the other end of the rope. With the foot ascender it was great. It could also be used to control the return journey from the end of the limb. Plus loads of pirate jokes!
  16. We have a stihl 150 and it's great, good for small pruning jobs, also don't discount the new battery saws they are also very controllable, don't need ear muffs and thee is less vibration I think there is a thread on here somewhere?
  17. Thank you very much all for replying, I have one on order and will give it a go as Matty has suggested, minus the rope wrench to keep it compact, i can add one later if necessary,
  18. Thank you matty, I hadn't even thought that far ahead, at least with a wrench it won't lock up the vt!
  19. Thanks joe that's good to hear, there doesn't seem to be any info anywhere on it! I guess it is a case of playing with it until I'm happy, thanks again
  20. Hi all I'm thinking about a Dmm captain and carnt decide on how to capture progress, so was wondering what other people are using? I am thinking a pulley and e2e like a lanyard setup clipped to bridge when needed then can be used with foot ascender, at least with this idea it can be let out as well as in which I don't see how that's possible with a normal hand assender? Hope that makes sense? Thanks in advance RDB
  21. Ha ha was just about to recommend he contact you nick! Hope your well?
  22. It is worth putting the shaft in the freezer and the bearing in the oven on low to warm up if they will fit! Or vice versa as it makes a massive difference on the force needed and makes them easier to get square to the shaft good luck
  23. I don't know a lot about this but do you have enough air flow from the house up the chimney? Otherwise I guess the chimney would be working backwards to a certain extent? It is probably worse on windy days? Mine used to do the same until I installed the correct air flow to the room, mine was installed incorrectly by the previous owner. the manufacturers usually publish the requirements, otherwise Axminster do a fine filter dust extractor designed for workshops, good luck
  24. Thanks, I have tried the o rig and it does work, I just don't like the idea of bending and side loading the splice, I will try the rescue strop on Monday as it should be a good length, if it's too long you carnt reach the top of the hitch cord to get down!!
