  1. If your handy with a welder you can build a wood burner from a gas bottle ( empty it first though!)
  2. Hi Matt hope all is well, you would be welcome to borrow mine for a bit, I'm off work at the mo with a hand in plaster, do you have a saw? I have a 36"er:lol: Along with gran berg ripping chain Do you have an old ladder? If not you can borrow that as well. Have a look at rob d's videos on u tube, also I posted a link to a good online book on the milling forum a while back, although you will be needing to smoke a pipe to get the best boards! It is criminal to leave good timber, but it is hard work though. I built a new pony shelter for my wife with mine so it's paid for itself in one project
  3. Worked on a golf course once - chipping golf balls is most amusing!!! Then moved on to chipper golf with the sledge hammer!
  4. There are a few ways They need to be bit swarm mode, so putting an empty used hive near by can tempt them in this time of year. Cut the tree and get queen and comb Make a bee vac and suck them out. They are probably quite wild bees and could be quite nasty, but usually they are the best honey getters. Good luck and I would wear a bee suit. Let us know how you get on:thumbup:
  5. Blimey that's clever, just swapped a swarm I picked up in bait hive to proper foundation, complete chaos! Bees everywhere, hope I got the queen back in the box? Couldn't find her before I started, no stings, wallet £80 lighter,
  6. We all know it's a local price thing and is as much as the local demand will take, if I go up to just 95 I halve my sales over night! Plus I only deliver very locally
  7. I don't sell my logs cheap if I get a good deal on the wood, my price is £90 per m3 what ever I pay, if I pay less I get more profit
  8. He must be a posh bee keeper, he has a proper skep! I only have a cardboard box!! It's ok as long as I remember the tape to close the top properly otherwise I have to use my coat:lol: Took off 90 lb of honey the other day We should start a bee keeping thread
  9. No I'm in dorset, Picked up total 5 swarms, lost 1, now out of hives, could be an expensive week end!
  10. Picked up 2 swarms today and I think the bait hive has worked! free bees, rapidly running out of kit!
  11. I've always been interested in a top bar for the same reasons Here is my bait hive
  12. They look good but am trying to stay away from winter tyres because of the hardness of the compound, will try and ring fedima I think rich
  13. Hi Jon not really sure how it all works !
  14. That's the next option I think, trouble is I don't really understand changing aspect ratios etc
  15. Hi Jon they are 195 65 r15, The closest I have got so far are fedima frontieras Tyres Direct UK Supplying Fedima Tyres Cheers rich
  16. This is the problem I'm having Jon finding a size that fits Cheers rich
  17. 91 which is about 600 kg What make all terrains do you have? Or can recommend? It's good to know they make a difference!
  18. No takers on the bait hives yet this year but loads of scouts even today! I had a hive that I forgot to put the insulation above the metal lid over the winter and it got loads of condensation a and was dripping wet, they survived and will take honey next week so I think they are hardier than we think. As for leaving them to get on with it- I'm a big fan of not interfering and unnecessary fiddling! See what happens? Every bee keeper has their own opinions and thinks they are right, it's only the bees that are right! What's different about the warre hive?
  19. I'm fed up of wheels spinning my little van up tracks and off wet grassy bits. All 4 tyres need replacing and was wondering if something more aggressive than standard road tyres are available Has any one done this before? Don't want to sell the van as it is so perfect in every other way for what I do. Any experiences gratefully received! Cheers
  20. I have 2 of my own shallow nationals and at work I have 8 hives 6 national and 2 WBC, We keep 2 on a Heath 2 in park 4 in an orchard. My own are on the edge of a wood to get shelter and sun Picked up 4 swarms so far this year, 1 might have been my own:blushing: I have bait hives out all over the place, old hive old comb and some lemon grass oil seems to work really well, Have 2 supers on all hives at the mo, and if weather is good will take one off each and process some honey:thumbup: Been hard few years for the bees, weather out of sync. They are a bit addictive the more you learn the more you need to know! Will try and get some pics up
  21. Quintana, contador, froome in that order?
  22. Don't cut the wedge down, I have a similar design splitter and put a curve on my wedge as I was having the same problem. The curve reduces the surface area and makes a massive difference. Use the same profile as a quality splitting axe Also I run mine off a beaver pack which has power on demand so isn't revving all the time unless it hits a sticky bit. I think it was 150 from the bay Cheers:thumbup:
  23. Not sure if I can promote this (it's not my site by the way) but it has some awesome photos and videos from around the world Log in to face book and search for forestmachineoperatorjobs Cheers
