  1. right, cheap ones are good enough to get a clean cut in anything up to 6mm at the most in my experience. U need quite a large compressor if u use if for long periods as they do like to suck up the air. Dry clean air is essential, pay for a decent drier/filter for it as it will pay u back easily in hassle free clean cutting. My first was a cheap chinese version which worked well but was only any good at the thin stuff, that was nearly five years ago and 3mm was its max for anything quality but there alot better now. Now I run a hypertherm powermax 45, which will cut up to 12mm clean and easy, but up to 25mm u can hack ur way through. But she does soak up all 32amps of single phase, wish i'd gone three phase really but that was another grand on the price! Consumables are quite cheap, tips, electrodes shrouds and the such. It doesn't worrys about cutting through paint/galv/rust so long as u get a electrical circuit its fine! Brilliant to use on stainless and ali plate, so quick and easy. Hope that helps!
  2. But he said he wanted two seats, so it'd have to be a two hump camel???
  3. do it, nothing to complex so long as u obviosuly are really meticulous about ensuring its square where u come to welding it back together so it doesn't crab or wear tyre's uneven. I shrank a 110 to a 90 for a chap, personally i couldn't see the point but he was paying so he got what he wanted!
  4. This is madness, but i love it!!! always wanted to do road of bones, but as yet not been fortunate enough to have the chance!!!
  5. only one place for that stuff.......a wood burner. Just a shame u have to see it grow in the first place!!!
  6. Oxy was the first type of welding i was taught by our old mechanic, was always told if u can weld with that then the rest will be a breeze!!! He wasn't wrong, it made mma (stick) look like a piece of cake!!! An old technique these days but i still use it occansionally.
  7. firewood sounds good!!!!
  8. I checked this with my insurance company when i started hiring the odd machine out, so long as they are notified that machines may be used for hire purposes they'll cover it so long as reasonable efforts has been made to protect the asset (ie GPS, hire agreements)
  9. they always say ' Its worth what some mug will pay for it ' this blokes proved the point and where are the mugs when i'm selling stuff.......
  10. see that's where most people go wrong with mig, they think its easy and when it leaves crap weld they think stick's better, i use both in different situtations and i would agree in some situations that stick is better and some mig is better. If i had to to pick just one, i'd be very hard pushed to decide which to loose!!! I've seen come crap by both, and IMO some of the worst has been mig welding on landrover chassis's i've had to re-repair cuz their 'mate down the pub' brought a mig and thought it'd be easy to earn some cash..........
  11. I can tell u what happens, seen the steel winch cable on a truck cut through a landrover rear door quicker and tidier than a disc cutter then inbed itself in the rear of the bulk head behind the driver! Put a human in the way and u have slices of human sushi...........
  12. This is exactly what the chap did, dealer did his checks and because its a 'private hire' and not 'lease hire' it wouldn't show up on any of the checks. But i'm still at beggers belief that the dealer bought a tractor of that value from someone he didn't know. I know i wouldn't have! I'd like to be a fly on the wall if the chap walks back into the dealers office with another 'bargain'!!!
  13. now this may sound a daft question, but is it the mould just a problem from a visual point or from a burning point? As i've never even considered it a problem before!
  14. i've got a browns circular saw and the Tungsten tips are worth every penny!!! Which ever u buy, and i have no experience of anyother makes, just don't skimp and not have the tungsten tips u'll always regret it in my opinion!
  15. couldn't have put it any better!!! its what u pay dealers for in the new price!!!
  16. from what i've laboured behind, all mizers can cut square timber, only a case of turning the timber 90degree's and making another cut. but i'm sure they're some serious skill to doing it well. Only seen a peterson saw working once and it was great for cutting square timber but ur restricted to the width timber u can plank compared to a mizer in my opinion. just my pennies worth.
  17. thankyou, well i thought i sort of knew the chap who hired it. Was recomended by a friend to him, which i then mistakenly thought he must know quite well, but actually only gave my number in the pub one night. So my fault on that front for not doing a bit more digging before hiring. And paperwork is only like it is, as theft has been a problem and my insurance company suggested we ought to go through and check where we are with it. Hated it at time, all the B******t u have to put in it and time it takes, but glad i did now. Father always said ur best lessons are from mistakes, and i've done alot of learning in my lifetime!!!
  18. now i admit to know nothing about marine diesel, but surely if this "bunker C" stuff is the bit left over at the end then there isn't much poke left in it??? But the devil on my other shoulder says surely if they can burn it then it must be good for the enviroment as its less waste to get rid of.........
  19. Morning all, have been having an interesting couple of days, thought any of you out there who hire equipment either short or long term may want to be aware of this. It all started with a letter from the DVLA informing me that a new V5 had been requested for one of my tractors and if this was correct to ignore the letter. As the tractor was on a long term hire i rang them to question the request. To cut a long story very short, the chap i had hired it to had taken it to a dealer and sold it. Seeing as i put GPS tracking on all new equipment (we've had alot stolen in last year or two!) it wasn't too difficult for me to locate the machine. Needless to say when i turned up in the dealer's yard and explained the situation he was none to happy. We got the police involved, which was an interesting experience, as they started off by saying that i had to prove i owned the machine or they couldn't do anything, and it seems a V5 doesn't cut it. So luckily when i produced a hire agreement which stated the hire period and terms and conditions and i demonstrated the GPS on the machine was linked to my phone, they agreed it was my machine. The dealer now looking very pale said, what about my money? (bearing in mind the value was close to £110K). The police are currently investigating to try and locate the devious party, but have said ifi hadn't had a signed hire agreemnt it would have been a much longer saga to get my machinery back. So make sure u have upto date and valid (ie T&C's and signatures!) hire agreement just in case someone pulls a fast one on you!
  20. i'd do it no worries, so long as the neighbourhood was destined for demolition anyway............
  21. right as a farmer here's how i've understood what they are doing, they will phase out 'red' diesel in its current form from a date which i don't think they actually fully agreed on yet (probably have to make a special committe for that:001_tt2:) and then we will have to buy 'white diesel but long as we can prove we use it for non-road uses we can then apply for a rebate on the tax difference. IE what they're hoping is some won't bother and it'll make them more money. This is how i understand it, but in my eye's its only going to make it more difficult to police as who knows which tank i've filled my landy up from????? As for new diesel with the bio-diesel element so far we not had a problem, but we only just getting to the first winter with it sat in tanks longer especially the combine. Which i don't want to drain as i like to start it every few weeks during the winter to keep the anitfreeze mixed up and the oil splashed about the engine. All in all, i'm sure we'll all end up getting done over a little bit more!!!
  22. whats on my bench........empty mugs of tea and a copy of the farmers guardian!!!! what should be on my bench........probably a 300tdi with a severe case of the runs or the cider apple crusher that i probably should have finished before harvest!!!
  23. tis a joke, all the problems in this world they jail an old lady for not cutting down some tree's........ think they need a taste of reality!!!!
  24. huh, i know its a freebie but they don't offer one for my MS880 with a 48" bar..........had to make do with one for the little husky. Notably they only seem to be offering it for the smaller saws and what look slike to me the homeuser......perhaps they realise a pro can sharpen a saw better than this gadget. But i'll happily give it a go!!!
  25. are you just running the crane from the tractor hydraulics? If so do they run fast enough for you?
