  1. Kool another 0sa 250, if you need any info I have some, got a manual etc. We are having the crane rebuilt at the moment ready to go back on some bogs. looking at band tracks as well, like proper flotation ones
  2. Forestry worker critical after being hit by falling tree | Cumbria Crack: News for Penrith, Appleby, Eden Valley, Keswick, Workington, Whitehaven, Maryport, Barrow, Kendal, Carlisle, Lake District & Cumbria24
  3. Same 250 as ours, I have a full manual etc if needed, help with wiring issues! Is it a loglift crane? Manual shows their own crane.
  4. I did one it is good and you get a good buffet lunch! recommend them, they have been going for a long time and they do the work as well as train so keep up to date.
  5. Well im still at in on the peat bog, 4 more loads and the wood is off. Had to build a log road in the end, found another set of tracks for the back, bit late than never! got a few mechanical issues to sort when it has a well deserved rest! Guess the tonnage (plus add 80 t for the top section) Before tracks... Tracks on A nice clean pic!
  6. Chains are a no go, has to be reducing ground pressure working in peat, that clarkes pic is exactly what is needed in honesty its that bad! for future peat jobs full tracks and extra wheels on the outside are a distin :001_rolleyes:ct possibility!
  7. That looks good in that pic!!! :thumbup1:got a few more battle scars now, well i have called the college, called wilsons, called every forwarder dealer who have given me several people numbers who i called......... then i resorted to calling random forestry contracters in scotland and wales. So far all i ve had is possibles and lots of sucking air through teeth.....oooh youl struggle to find a second hand set of those
  8. desperate for another set of band tracks now 6.00 size, called everywhere, budget of £1300 but do they really exist second hand??
  9. We have a softrak to lead off the wetter parts, the forwarder is ok on the tracked end but the rear sinks! could do with more tracks im struggling to find. Got an excavator on bog mats to build a brash road and stack the wood near it so i could reach it. The other wood we have on site is a lot drier and will be more suitable for machines.
  10. Totally agree with N1ck but it wont change, i ve been a cutter and could nt make money or change anything, too few people now to make much difference. A forest worker is someone who sits on a machine now, hand cutting piece work in the woods machines cant make money in is slave labour, if a machine cant make money then you cant either but these are the scrap woods youl be thrown! Anyway i ve said it all before when i gave it up so no point going on, all i suggest is the poster of this thread be careful of not earning very little!
  11. Easy to get out, quick tug with a 7 ton digger, got 4 on site! Peat and forestry is two things equalling a nightmare! Really need a second set of band tracks. Got another 4 loads or so to get out, its that wet were moving the wood to where i can get to with an excavator and timber grab and bog mats is needed.
  12. Im learning on an osa 250 and like said before simple but loads of old electrics! Capable and good value for money!
  13. Think you might struggle to cut 6 t in stuff that small, a ton is more than you think. This sounds like the kind of wood you look at and think its day rate or not done! You rarely make money on second thinnings. final thinnings and nice decent sized clearfells are what you want. I would rather cut 16 t a day in medium big pine for £6-8 a ton than £15 for 4-6 t (if you get it) in first thinnings. You can do better in bigger stuff as a ton is faster to get so to cover costs you might have to do an extra hr. In small rubbish costs might take half the day! The money is in machine operating, im learning on an old forwarder but im employed now as cutting just does not pay! Good luck we dont have enough cutters I have worked with lots of people learning to cut, expect them to earn £20 a day to start with! Most cutters in scotland are on 120-150 day rate doing edge trees harvesters cant handle, machines in the middle whacking out the tonnage.
  14. heres a badge pic and the dreaded peat bog....need more brash!
  15. Started extracting on the peat today, will only travel on brash mats but the tracks are brilliant and possibly could do with a second set. Anyone know of any band tracks for 600s anywhere??
  16. oh god its begun......would nt start today due to an electrical gremlin somewhere.....roll on monday!!
  17. yep its am osa fmg 250, i need some connecting joints for the band tracks if anyone has any? its a loglift crane and is very powerful! it is in good mechanical condition but looks like an older forwarder should....er used!
  18. Took delivery of this today....it has a few leaks etc but all expected for sub 10K!!
  19. or timberjack 810! Actively looking for one of these forwarders soon as either to buy or hire for working on a peat bog area where total weight cannot exceed 13 ton. I could go out tomorrow and buy a machine over this weight but cannot find anything suitable since machines have got larger for increased profits!! Currently considering buying one from france or poland:001_rolleyes: Anyone know of anything about in the uk?? I am based in cumbria.
  20. Valmet 6 pot or other makes considered, driven or standard trailer with crane Anyone have anything for sale, seems a limited supply second hand other than wilsons.
  21. Anyone know who sells them in the uk??
  22. Right we have a job clearing some large pine, small birch on a peaty site. We currently have a nice big 160hp valmet and duel wheels as we are all about low ground pressure. Now we also have 2 diggers set up with timber grabs but no trailer. Looking for a timber trailer with no crane with proper forestry tyres, not the agri types and possibly with bandtracks, anything to reduce the ground pressure. What do people reccomend. have considered a hydrostatic 8 ton tracked dumper with a timber tray on the back.
  23. I was up at shap above the snow line felling this year and I can confirm it was pretty cold and windy!
