  1. Any chassis mods will require an sva test and the 130 has a deeper chassis than the 110 i think so any strengthening will have to be pretty meaty on the 110 but easily doable. But be careful as the insurance will add 10% on top straight off for any mods. Worth a go tho so go for it!
  2. Hi there i am moving up to kendal in 2 weeks and am interested in doing some tree delivery and used to driving. Would it be using a company van? Im also up for any other types of work if you have any since i have a degree in forestry and many years tree surgery experience. If you want i can send you a cv. Thanks Richard
  3. pm sent il be in kendal in a few weeks. willing to travel!
  4. Hey guys still looking for work! im moving up to kendal in a few weeks and need to sort something out!
  5. Generally what you would do would be cut the coppice in 5 to 7 year rotations, encourage new growth and you can be selective with tree guards and occasionally fell the odd standard for firewood. This should give you a constant coppice product plus firewood or maybe a bigger income if the standard is a good stick for planking, veneer etc even. But also you being sustainable as your new growth will benefit from extra light and replace the cut produce. Simple but effective although if trees are falling over there often then maybe just coppice cutting and use of trees on the floor for firewood would be better? would need to have a look really! Where abouts are you?
  6. the conversion from hopus to metre is 27.7 so if you had 30m3 of oak at £5 a cube then it would be £138.50 a metre.
  7. I am a hard working tree man with 8 years of groundsman experience and experience of running my own business. Chainsaw qualifications and good with mechanical repairs and off road driving. Willing to travel for casual work, has land rover, winch and saws. I also have a degree in forestry management from both Sparsholt college and Newton Rigg. The forestry industry has become very hard to break into due to the recent downturn but i am able to do many various jobs so any work available will be considered with interest! I would like to do some contract felling as that is enjoyable! I have recently returned from travelling around asia and have not been unemployed at any point in my life, i love forestry and want to crack on with some work!!! Thanks Richard
  8. Yeah cheap is not the right word in hindsight! Yes reasonably priced works better, dont expect to get anything cheap anymore! Penrith seems to be one of the dead spots with lots of stuff to close to scotland or too far south near chester! Il make a farmer list and do a ring about again!
  9. Looking to start logs near penrith/ surrounding area so im looking for a nice cheap small yard or field where i can saw/ split wood without annoying anyone plus storage! Anyone know anywhere?? Will be small scale so were not talking 1000s of tons! Thanks Richard
  10. Good old fairey 525 pto winch.....the grandad of the h14w superwinch (they bought out fairey and rebadged) 3.5 tonne pull but realistically its a lot more.......old over engineered worm drive winches are the best!!
  11. hmmm looks bad this but id expect it to be due to crap build quality and overloading etc. My series 1 1955 has a well thick chassis and so has hardly had any welding done in the last 50 odd years and i have had 3 1988 ish 110s that had spot on thickish but not as thick as the series 1 chassis. But then again my dads old series 3 rotted like mad as there was a bad batch of steel in some of them so.....anyones guess! but i agree that the newer ones are nowhere near as hardy as was the original idea.....shelf life i imagine.
  12. People have lost sight i think of the idea of a working truck...........i drive a 1955 series 1 landy with a tdi every day and its recovered and sorted so many "better" newer cars/trucks. I took my 1988 tdi 110 to croatia, offroaded it then came back no problems at all! Same landy was hammered with big loads for years till i sold her when i stopped being self employed. Parts are also cheap and many available! Repairs are easy compared to rangers etc. The newer landys are going the way of the ranger, izuzu and navara.....poser mobiles used for looking at jobs rather than doing them. Get a 3.5 ton lorry for proper work and a car!! oh and an old landy for when evrything breaks down!!
  13. dont buy a ranger....got them at work and they are always broken. fuel problems and the like, clutch is too small for towing with no torque. izuzu or landy! personally id go landy as they are more work like, a dent doesnt write it off for reselling!
  14. Hello there i hope you are successful getting into this industry! since i was at school i wanted to do forestry despite the fact there is no money in it and limited job availability! I have done a hnd in forestry from sparsholt and a degree from newton rigg, chainsaw tickets etc. So far i have not been able to do what i consider my dream job of forestry management. I set up as a self employed tree surgeon for about 5 years due to this after working for several companies. Last year i jacked it in due to tha fact i did nt want to do any more conifers and basically waste disposal as well as having a wrecked back, knee, elbow etc from hedgecutting etc. The clinching thing was i ripped my shoulder tendon which will never be the same again now and so i cant do heavy cutting all day which i quite enjoyed! I hate dragging crap through tiny gateways and after 10 years of that i was ready to give up the decent wages and try to find my dream job again!! currently i am working as a forest ranger at center parcs due mainly due to the job issues in the uk at present but one day i hope to progress to what im passionate about! It is hard to begin contracting in forestry due to the tight margins and startup costs. Also it is difficult to get a management job especially on estates as advertised jobs mostly are already filled inhouse and it is advertised for the legal aspect! So i am still looking for the job i want and probably will be for a while yet although i am considering doing a plumbing course as i may never find the job im after! So my advice is try and get i with an estate...the work is slower pace than commercial forestry where you will slowly destroy your body but to get higher up you will have to stay there for years and slowly work your way up the ladder! Good luck and rememeber its not what you know its who you know and experience always counts......
  15. Right i topped a conifer hedge for my brother over xmas and the 357 drove me mad but ran better and better as i used it.....and it idled after i accidentily dropped in into next doors garden!! so idle is still a little high and it needs more playing with but at least it works!
  16. well............. its back, yes thats right its back. "sigh" but less pain this time as the tooth has been drilled and drained again. i have seen yet more emergency dentists and i tonight they drained it again and have left it open ot keep draining as the front of my mouth is like a hamster......so monday i go in for temp filling and i need to organize a private root canal to stop it happening again assoon as possible! Until i tried to get a dentist i did nt realise what such a shocking state the nhs is in.......im on a list but looks like itl be years till i finally get one and private ones are flat out and charge what they want!! bad times....but im glad i dont live in primative times or id no doubt have died in great agony!! All i want it to be well to get the landy through the mot friday and i cant get motivated as i feel so crap and for some reason its all giving me great pain in my left arm in the joint...no its not a heart attack so everything is hard to do......roll on well times!!
  17. all fixed, i went private and they drilled and drained it then cleaned it all out and temp filled it.......thank god............
  18. well im booked in on the 12th to get it out or canaled after a super xray as the normal one is not clear enough, i hope so im hoping in a week the pain will have all gone and then its not long till its sorted for good! i like the cutting your head off idea i would actually hurt less......
  19. ah ha i a, experiencing something that could be described as the worst pain in history right now. I have been to the emergency dentist twice and had xrays etc and i have an absyce (spp) under one of my front teeth. i have 2 types of anitbiotics and have a date to root canal it in jan. the joy! I HAVE NOT SLEPT FOR 4 DAYS. ben taking 2 of the strongest iburprofen with 2 codene paracetamol on top and it just touches it! it is the worst pain ever and i have sat in a tattoo place for 6.5 hours straight and that was nothing compared. been going dizzy at work from the tiredness! worst thing is i ve never had a filling before dammit! anyway what does not work.... salt water hot water bottle on face (heat encourages the infection) a whole bottle of whiskey crushing painkillers into a paste and applying What works.... 2 type of aforementioned painkillers (well for 2 hrs anyway) clove oil on tooth does help a bit but again not for long! i feel sorry for anyone with one of these and i hope to god i never have this again as i would n wish it on anyone!!! Yours in agony...Rich!!!
  20. ha ha this is quite funny!! my 262 had a stripped oil worm gear from new as well then would nt run properly!! hmm maybe im just unlucky!!! well at the moment id like to sell this saw and then look about since im can borrow a saw if i need one now and then! might buy a danarm instead....reliable but maybe a tad heavy!!
  21. well i dont use the saw much but i do need one now and then...to be honest a top handle 020 would be spot on and easier to cart about in the landy but i might do some large felling work at some point and so id prefer a bigger cc saw with a small bar. so id be selling to get something bigger. as for the carb its total pot luck as i had a 262xp which never ran right either! just seems funny that all the 357s at work have a similar problem new or old!! finiky saws i think!!
  22. hmmmm think mine is a walbro carb but cant check as i ve left it at work. was thinking of around 280 ish for it as its got so many new parts. all i ant is a saw that starts runs and idles nicely..seems a lot to ask, would love to use an older dolmar saw to see how they run!!
  23. really!!! i ve been looking for ages...on ebay...ha ha typical!!!! but can i really be bothered?????????
  24. I am bored of my 357xpg...shes had a new pot and piston for a 359, new cranks seals and been fully rebuilt but still will not run properly as she needs a new carb i think. all air leaks sorted. At work we have 6 357 and none of them idle properly and are a pain!! maybe someone on here can make it work properly but im out of time and paitence!! Therefore i am after any saw older/newer but probably a bit more cc than the 357 to either swop or i am willing to sell mine and look for something else. bear in mind is been rebuilt and probably would run better with a new carb but funnily enough i ve never seen a second hand one....... so is there any interest????
  25. The 200 tdi does not need the glow plugs, mines on 140k and spot on. The 300 however is slightly different and requires glow plugs or its harder to start like many of the new jap ones. 200 the best engine land rover ever made!! i ve added 5 litres of petrol to mine at the moment in case of diesel waxing as it waxed a bit last year, might run slightly rougher but its better than stopping since the weather only seems to be getting colder and more snowy!! the leak off rail is a classic air leak place, the small rubber connections split, just replace the pipes but air leaks are never easy to find!! good luck!
