  1. It ran before i fitted the new stuff but still died on idle as well so it must be the carb and it seems so fickle, think they are overtuned but awesome when running. Im looking at swopping it for a 268 or 372 really as they would be more reliable! i love big saws with small bars as well!!! im sure a carb would sort it out but itl just go out of tune quickly i imagine again!!
  2. Pretty sure its a carb problem now with fuel starvation, put new crank seals in and lengthened the fuel pipe in the tank. So what do i do with the carb??? tempted to set fire to it to be honest im sick of it now!!! anyone want to swop for a nice old 268 or summit that might actually work???
  3. This winch is the newer type of the fairey 525 from when superwinch bought them out. Now the pto for the series/tdis is different but if the td5 uses the same transfer box then the tdi type pto should fit. The shaft and bearings are the real issue but you should be able to make the thing fit!! i have fitted my winch to 3 different land rovers now and if i can get the shaft past a block of flats perkins 4.236 in my old hicap then the td5 should be easy!! now when i sold the tdi pto to find a series one it sold for arounf 250 on its own and the series type cost me 200. The whole kit is worth 500-600 but rarley comes up complete. The winches alone make up to 300ish. There is also a hydro pump to fit instead of the pto but these arevery expensive and dont often come up. pto is an exellent winch! i have some pics of my old 110 with it fitted from underneath if it helps!
  4. yep new gasket used as i had to wait 2 extra days to get it!!
  5. Right thats a piece of piss aint it then!! might as well do that then to tick it off the list then try the carb then throw it in a skip pour petrol on it and set fire to it!!
  6. is the crankseal an easy thing as i ve just put it back together! il see if i can find a new carb as well just in case! never had a husky thats run properly...ever!!
  7. I have just fitted a new piston and cylinder and ring. I have adjusted the l and h screw 1 turn anticlockwise and adjusted the idle speed. It will idle for 5 seconds nicely, sometimes longer then just cuts out and needs choke to restart. It also means i cant adjust it properly as its always stopping. What am i doing wrong????
  8. Hello there i have just finished a BSc at newton rigg and know a few people that have done the MSc. Worth having and i was going to do the msc this year but couldnt afford it,, now as for jobs in cumbria for forestry etc its awful................nothing at all. Scotland and right down south re the best bet!!
  9. Id like to find some work for mondays, fridays and possible weekends if anyone in the area has any work?? i was a groundsman for 8 years and was self employed recently till going back to uni. Now money is tight id like to top up my wages for at least 2 days more a week! Got chainsaw nptc up to medium trees and used various chippers for years plus the usual hedge cutters and wobbling on stepladders balance techniques!! PM me your phone no. if there is anyone willing to help my rubbish money situation!!!! Thanks Rich
  10. hello eden arb!!! youl see me about..think i ve seen you and i bet you ve seen me...half zebra stripe old land rover........ il keep some of these ideas in mind guys....especailly the hit it as hard as you can one!!!:thumbup1:
  11. yeah i ve done it 3 times now.......hate it!!! but we must keep going, lots of walking at work to be done tmz but im fnding it hard to stand so the morning will be fun!!
  12. Ah was using my winch today....the only way to go is pto or hydraulic.........elec lasts for about 3 mins on continued heavy pulling, i ve been on lots of offroad sites where 4 elec winches are all burned out and i turn up with the pto and winch out no problems first time........ i winched myself half a mile on a really bad section once, no stopping to cool down!!! ive had this winch on 3 land rovers now as well....bargain!!!
  13. on the saw today....bending over to sharpen a chain...back goes well bad..........now its agony and i have some strong painkillers, docs useless as usual. I seem to d this every 2 years or so really badly.... hello whiskey thatl help!!!
  14. Best thing is keep weeds down so nowhere for them to hide and remove the guards so they cant sit inside them...assuming nowt else eats the trees!!!
  15. i heard that there were problems with early carbs....anyone know owt about it???
  16. right ive found the 357 and 359 use the same pistob size etc but the 357 is more powerful... 359, 59cm3, 3.9hp 357, 56cm3, 4.4hp so is there any other top end i could put on to increase it further since i have to but a new pot and piston anyway or am i being silly????????
  17. I ve picked up a second hand crank and crankcase for the 357xpg and i ve stripped it but found the pot and piston are heavily scored, now where is the cheapest parts supplier as ebay is about 85 quid...seems a lot, plus can i still get the type without the decompression button?? Also is there any parts i could fit on it to increase is capacity...posssily a 359 pot and piston??? Thanks guys:001_smile:
  18. hmm how come a crank for every other saw is so cheap and the 357 is 180 squids?????? gits!!!!
  19. ive been using saws for years and never had this problem before. saw was a 2nd hand ebay purchase so no idea the life it had before but i was cutting big dead oak so it was hard work for it.........ive not used the saw a lot........very inconvienient,
  20. husq 357xpg has snapped the crank just where the clutch sits in a boring i ve got no drive way, not even a decent bang now i ve been quoted around 200 for a new crank so i could rebuild it but it doesnt seem worth it for an old saw.....unless i find another scrap one... problem is that my other saw an 044 is very old but going well but i really wanna exhange both for a newer one and a bit of cash but im a bit skint at the moment!! thoughts???
  21. my exhaust fell off yesterday...fixed it for 6 quid.............nice and cheap!!!! id love to learn to weld.........would have ben free then!!!
  22. hello again guys.........you are all right of course, i really wanna get this up and running and so i have to start asking and proding people!!! sometimes form replies its too easy to go on the offfensive instead of advice!! i have been in tree work since i was at upper school and im now 28 so i know the business fairly wel now but i still think we all need encouragement sometimes so thanks guys il pull my finger out and take all the good advice!!:001_tt2:
  23. This is all useful stuff........il start calling a few people and see what happens!! they say time is precious but i have loads of it!!:laugh1:
  24. well it is a decent mark up compared to sitting about doing nothing for 3 days a week!!!! just want to be busy really, i miss all the logging i used to do........ so i know the cost of hardwood and roughly you can double what you paid after conversion, its your time that cost but if your not doing anything anyway its free time for me!! ha ha love the comment if you have a shed use that etc!! curently living in a houseshare....garden is tiny with a tiny full shed with no rear access apart from through the house!! similar to where i used to live in a terrace down south! all i really need is space...........sometimes i think people with space/lans dont apprieciate how lucky they are to have it as noone will give me a loan or mortage either and so renting somewhere is my only option. Im not having a go at anyone but if you have land to spare then its a lot easier and it frustrates me when people have it and dont use it!!
  25. yes i am 3 days a week and doing a bit of work for a local guy one day so i have all weekends and a day a week spare with not a lot of money after rent so looking at possible extras.........i was a tree surgeon for 8 years and i know the marlup on logs........hence the interest!!
