  1. hello yes thats me! well i bought a new clutch from a 242 or something and used the original inner as the thread is different on the new ones since that is a an early 262. the outer clutch weights are new...not cheap with a new clutch spring. The clutch drum is a 357 one with a washer as a spacer. It all works fine using easier to source parts. I was told that the original 262 drums had a problem with shearing off...exactly my problem and these new parts seem to have solved it. The saw was a spud rebuild with new pot and piston so its good, just not as reliable to use 8 hrs a day like i do, Love my new 560xp... Hope it works well for you. Main reason for selling it was vibration, was really affecting my hands, all gone with the new saw.

    Cheers Rich

  2. yeah i have found this, due to very small bendy vibration mounts i think, also i got a twig stuck in underneath when the mounts were stressed and it trapped it causing loads of vibation so had to bend the saw and pull it out. the only thing that could be improved is the mounts i think. wel they have been breaking since the adding of the strap at the rear to prevent excess movement so they are soft.
  3. just bought a 560 on 3/8 chain 68 link 18" bar. used it all day felling big stuff and it is superb....love it to bits its just awesome, best decision i made to buy one!
  4. Like the idea but i dont know hardly anyone who works on day rates unless the trees are smaller that 7cm dbh, most is done on piece work. Sounds like tree surgery rates you have there. Would it not be more sensible to get hold of a couple of good cutters and pay them a ton rate to be arranged per job and youl gat paid for what you extract per ton. This is mostly how its done with the benefits of you not employing anyone, ie less red tape. If you can find the work then do it! but its all hard work with low rates but looks nice when your done!
  5. well my car tax is free as its an ancient land rover with a tdi in. this site we are on is awful, one more rack to finish and im off to another with much bigger stuff so more money hopefully but the rate will be less of course! and yes its not much of a wage but this site is extra crap plus the fact there is no other work around here anyway! good times! Forestry involves buying everything second hand cheap as possible to make it pay which is what im doing!! none of this tree surgery 17 new saws a year!
  6. i work every day in the woods as a cutter in cumbria. rates depend on the site, small crap higher rate...simple. At the moment we are on a rubbish site, medium size trees but really really hairy and the sites a bog. We get £2o ton for 3.7 logs, 1.9s, 1.7 posts. chip £16. At the moment im lucky to earn 70 a day so yes its pants but on other sites with clean trees and a good rate i can earn 120 a day. So some times its crap and sometimes good. Its hard work and very few can be bothered to do it is the reality. people are lazy. I was in tree surgery for years and the money was good but now too many jokers have pushed prices down and too many people doing it, easier than forestry though!!
  7. right il try to get it running better tomorrow top end, ive replaced the bits i think in the clutch that have caused the problem so hope i can forget that now and concentrate on the carb adjusting!
  8. Right i have had the clutch spring go again today so i have fitted...youl love this.....what they had in the shop since this is an early 262 and parts arent listed now but as we all know most parts are similar or the same...so. I now have the original clutch centre as the thread is different in later ones and that part is fine, i have a the weights from a 242 and spring and the drum is a 357 one with my spacer washer. anyway its all nice and tight now with very little play and the chain has no tight spots. anyway it all went together well and wel see how it goes tomorrow, better be ok since it cost £65 in parts! One of the old weights i replaced was slightly different to the other two so roll on tomorrow and reliability! As for the carb adjusting it either seems to run and idle well running a bit lean which saves on fuel and makes it faster when snedding... or too rich and dies on idle. The linkage has a tiny bit of play in it as it should so is fully returning and not sticking.
  9. well i used the saw all day today with the 372 drum and i had no problems and i did hammer the crap out of it! im going to get a new clutch, drum and bearing tomorrow and see what happens. As for the linkage it is as it should be and to tune it today i screwed both low and high in, then out half a turn as it would nt run on a full turn, then i adjusted the idle and it seems to be running ok but still idles high now and then for no reason. It did well today so il replace the parts and see what happens!
  10. erm i bought a 262 years ago new off the shelf and it had a stripped oil pump worm gear which took ages to find, it also would not run properly as well. must have been a friday afternoon built saw or summit!the current problems i have are sortable and i agree that when cutting its awesome, much better than a 365. I have just had bad luck with 262s i think!
  11. The chains not been tightened too much, especially not when hot as it contracts! I have done a lot of cutting with it so far and the carb adjustment problem has been in the last week or so. The chain has a slight tight spot but nothing that i would think was enough to destroy stuff. The drum and bearing came from green stripe.com and the drum had made in canada on it! the old bearing is back on and working fine with the 372 drum. The carrier on the new bearing did nt exist anymore when i took the drum off! could be bad parts a suppose?
  12. so far ive shattered 2 clutch drums, they shear off where the rim sprocket sits and im not buying more at 25 quid a go, i have also killed a new clutch bearing. now i borrowed a 372 drum and fitted it, its a bit wide on the sprocket bit but i fitted a washer sso the clutch itself sat out a bit and it has been fine also with the original bearing. The new bearing and drum lasted about 3 hours. So it is something like a bent crank???? Also i cant keep the damn thing in tune, im constantly adjusting it like it has an air leak but it ticks over fine just overrevs or runs too rich. Are all 262s crap as i have had one ofrom new and that was worse so sold it ages ago. This is a spud rebuild with new pot and piston but still a reliable 262 eludes me!
  13. Thanks guys and spud! both my saws the 2065 and the 262 are used 8 hrs a day 5 days a week and i seem to be destroying them so fast! i broke my 3rd chainbrake band on the 2065 today and i dont use the brake as much as i should! tomorrow il service both and see what spare i need to buy next! So tempted to get a 560 though since its my living!
  14. Mines died........can i buy just the bearing as cant find one anywhere? Also im still looking for a cheap as side cover as mine has a big hole in it.....
  15. Thanks! i seem to have bad luck with 262s dunno why! il will replace the clutch and get a cover when one comes up......its only a hole!!
  16. Hello my 262 broke a cltuch inner today and ate a hole in the side cover so does anyone have a side cover going spare and clutch thing??? apart from that the saw was flying!
  17. I had problems with the arsehole sales reps years ago, pushy lieing so and sos, had to tell them the f**k off eventually as they just dont give up. I would never use them or recommend them and wish they would go under actually. i had about 3 sets of reps a week on commission some came all the way from wales, 200 miles........never again. So many more decent companies compared to these crooks.
  18. My series 1 is used in the woods, all parts for the 2 are readily avaliable like boxes, diffs etc and loads of parts places cheap so a tax free cheap runner! i have a pto winch on mine....awesome and i have fitted a 200tdi. have fun with her! You could get a harvey frost crane for skidding...... Anyway heres mine for inspiration! You will be surprised how good they are off road but look out for stumps, maybe fit some bigger tyres for more clearance, 235s, i may even go for 825s or 9.00s.... This was saturday. Just after the recent respray.
  19. All i can say is think of woodland insurance etc the cost of buying then underestimate the timber you will get out of it.......You will initially get a fair return from the clearout then a small return each year, remember coppice is over a 7-10 year rotation assuming the area is large enough to have enough areas for each year, plus the odd standard felling. So its more of a long term project investment than a cash earner, but well worth doing!
  20. Anything over 18cm top diameter will go for sawlogs, so either drag it all out in pole length or call your local sawmill to see what lengths they want. Get it to roadside and stacked so an artic can pick it up and ul get paid for the tonnage depending on product. Anything can be sold in 3m lengths for pulp or firewood as well, ie anything not sawlog size, down to 7cm top diameter. You could sell the smaller stuff yourself cut and split into logs. Coppice with standards is a lovely system but you need to work out if its worth buying the wood, ie what money will you get back from the timber unless its and investment, woodland tends to appreciate 7% a year, prob less at the moment. wish i could afford one!

    560xpg

Since im felling every day im seriously considering buying a 560xpg what is the best price that can be found?
  22. Well i did 2 loads today 35 quid each, one for the pub 4 feet from my house and one for across the square so i dont mind, its cheap i need a bit of cash..sorted! Well im going to do some cutting for another guy near penrith at some point and i will get £9 a ton but its much bigger stuff. Roughly it all balances out to £10 still, make less on tiny stuff, more on bigger stuff= average. An yes its hard work but its work! Can choose any day to work, how long etc so im happy! Boss is trying to get a day rate for some very small stuff since there is no money to be made there!
  23. Birch and some small pine clearance BUT there are some pockets of big stuff, felled a pocket on friday so i was happy! some days are exellent some are average!
  24. And yet everyone seems to wear them...... il stick with my sip trousers, get years out of a pair at half the silly cost!
  25. Had an add in the local paper for a month, got a few sales but mostly time wasters, i ve not got the time now to bag up and mess about, id rather get rid for now or il have to give it away mid summer as i try to move house....not cool! Spot on there logbaron, i think it will still be bad for a few years yet judging by the amount of people i know without jobs and with major money problems.
