  1. dunno it was very hot in the lakes although overcast, all day wedging edge trees over 8-5, got through 6 litres of water, and could only just manage the mile walk out! back at it tomorrow.
  2. Had this saw second hand, it lasted 3 hrs and the bottom bearing fell to bits and ruined the piston, but as it was still in warranty it got a full rebuild free of charge......on an 18 month old saw....thats service if other certain makes are listening!! It was going great last week but today the pump does not seem to be pumping oil, i need to have a closer look, just suddenly did it so maybe pump is goosed. Anyone know easiest place to get a new one??
  3. I cut big edge trees mostly so i bore cut/double cut everything. Dolmar 7900 79cc, 20" bar for real biguns, echo 610 on a 64 link chain, think thats a small 18". both on 3/8 full chisel. Would buy a new echo or dolmar in a heartbeat over the others now. husky/sthil have proved badly made and overpriced now. no idea how you guys runs 560s, you would need several a day!
  4. Could be halfshaft, when we bought ours it had popped one and the seller had one made, cost about 900 squids though. Pull them and check, if not maybe diff has gone. Bogies are gear or chain driven so then check those I suppose l. Hopefully just be a halfshaft. :-)
  5. Plate on the one i used to drive said 13T, depends on the crane fitted as well, this one had a 10m crane so would have been heavier still. I think you could be pushing it fully loaded, just a rough estimate really though.
  6. Dont buy a 560, as proven by people who use them for flat out cutting they fall to bits, mine did, guy i worked with, his did! 362 is not as good as the previous 361 that was a good saw. Dolmar 50-60cc saws seem better built and cheaper, if they are half as good as my 2003 7900 then youl love it! I used a 365 the other day and could nt tell much difference from the 372 so thats a more expensive option. dolmar 6100 looks an exellent deal
  7. I think being a full time cutter on large trees is fantastic, especially when working with a harvester that can roll/move stuff for you. Financially its a total disaster. My dolmar 7900 can use 10l of petrol a day plus 4 litres chain oil. 2 stroke oil. etc saws just dont last long enough, my 372 on another thread is a write off, fed up spending on it. so 700 quid lost in 2 months to start with! I have 2 second hand saws and will just buy second hand and repair as its cheaper than new since prices have rocketed. I agree if you do this then you will not be able to afford a mortgage, luckily if you have a partner then its doable! I am moving onto forwarder driving half the time, this will be hourly but no overheads so my cutting costs will be a bit more under control. The money will never be there to pay cutters more than they get now piece work or day rate, margins are tight even for machines. Problem is give a youngun a saw.......get him felling big stuff, before he gets good he will have gone to do something else due to what we ve discussed before!
  8. it is expensive, just had a bar go .luckily im working for a company paying my land rover fuel and i stay away a lot so that is paid for as well. Means i pay for my own kit, petrol etc but still overheads are hilariously high. Got 1 working saw and 2 in bits at the moment! They really struggled to find anyone willing to cut, you can see why, very hard work, constant breakdowns and spending much time in petrol stations! The wage will not go up anytime soon i imagine. I think you need not to think too much about the costs or youl go mad, its more of a way of life
  9. Agreed oh and if you don't see a Robin by lunch it's bad luck so off to the pub, Ermm I ve seen one every day without fail
  10. Did arb for 10 years, it not as physically demanding, you get free tea, cake etc. Earn more, spend it on too much uneccecary kit which then gets nicked while your trying to explain the what tree the customer has to them! Got Old and bored of that, wages mean nothing if you don't enjoy it. I love for forestry and u need to be the right person to do it, seen many arb guys come and last a few days. Basically large tree felling course will teach you to fell without a massive ungainly bar, it's not ax men here! Reading the men mud and machines book sums up the type of person for the job even now
  11. Thats an 80 cc saw with a 20 inch bar, its quicker to bore cut in 1 side and do an ark around the back of the tree. Smaller bar cuts faster uses less fuel and easier for brashing out plus easier to sharpen! arb guys tend to use bigger bars for this, cutters know how to do it properly!!!
  12. Few pics of what i do for a living! and why my saws are always broken, 2 tanks of a dolmar 7900 (20 inch bar) for this pictured sitka! Gnerally i fell, sned out and take a 4.9 log off for the big stuff harvesters cant do.
  13. First the big hole in the 372xpg front casing in the 'should have bought a dolmar thread'. My 7900 dolmar bought second hand from a shop had been serviced etc, main cylinder gasket was blown so had to be repaired, works ok now. Just picked up a second hand echo cs610 again from a dealer fully srviced etc, tested it today and it lasted till 2.30, ran out of fuel and compression seems down, throtle seems to stick on flat out now and then and the off switch wont stop it so i need to look into this. so i have 3 saws and at the moment only 1 working. ordered the new casing to rebuild the 372, hoping my only saw doesnt die before i get another repaired. Its never ending costs! really hope the echo is ok or thats more wasted money.
  14. Just unfortunate i suppose, i ve moved on from annoyed to fixing now so all good, il get the casing and rebuild although you have saw preferences and the 372 seems harsh compared to my dolmar. I am converted i think! So the casings are the same on the normal and xtorq, i assume the xtorq is engine related fuel saving etc, well thats what i ve read!
  15. Yeah the oil filler hole is strengthened by stiffeners so looks bent on a picture. Maybe i ve been unlucky, the site im on is very stony with some grown in. Anyway its happened and bored of it all I can get a new casing for 45 squids, husky genuine is 170 ish and i imagine the quality is similar anyway. Think il rebuild it myself purely as it has heated handles. I think you have to love the saw your using and the 372 just does nt seem to feel like its working hard compared to the dolmar. Looking forward to trying the echo. Dolmar sounds amazing as well. On another note i wonder if replacing the spikes with a larger aftermarket type would help protect the casing in large stuff. The dolmar ones are larger and seem to hold the casing further away from the tree.
  16. The bent looking bit on the right by the oil cap is normal as it bends round the oil cap round casing. I agree it looks bent in the middle where it always sits for snedding out. I have not to my knowledge hit it hard although it does pull itself in like all saws.Basically it not strong enough for doing big stuff then, the casing is thin and the stiffeners are not adequate. The dolmar i have here has much bigger thicker bars where you need them. Anyway i ve totally gone off husky now, 7900 today has been awesome, what a saw. Just picked up an echo cs610 to give that a go second hand. I get the impression buying new saws for this game is pointless. NI tree make an offer, im well aware what i paid runs perfectly other than the hole. bought start of november.
  17. Well the dealer has had a husky rep look and says no warranty, what a surprise, so i ve emailed and complained. I dont expect much. Its not been dropped, hammered etc just used in big timber. may end up selling it as it is to be honest, take the hit, never buy a husky again! [/url] anyway my 7900 dolmar is epic at least! touch wood!
  18. This is the point, I havent twatted it on anything, its been buried all the way in big stuff all day every day. If id hit it with a hammer then fine! It spat all the oil when i was cutting part of a multistemmed hemlock id just felled, bit was about the size of your arm plus i had just refueled and did nt see any leaks. No doubt il bring it back today a post a picture. The casing is very thin when you look at it, also the older 372s were heavier so weight has been shaved somewhere. I would rather have a slightly heavier saw that is reliable myself. Anyway my list of husky saws has been depressing anyway. All new. 262xp, oil pump worm gear stripped from new, never ran properly, always flooded, would start. 3120xp was nt a bad saw actually, hot starting issues, revs used to rise and fall flat out. 560xp broken mounts, oil tank gasket failure under oil tank, ate bars, shook itself to bits all the time. Guy i cut with his crank snapped off, gasket failed etc. Both were rebuilt on warranty. Now this 372xpg. Not great reading!
  19. No im going in first thing tomorrow, i work away monday to thursday. Whatever happens my 7900 is a good saw although a bit old so a second saw, 372 will be repaired under warranty hopefully as im really kicking off but then i would sell it. In the mean time of course im a saw down so i need to buy a new saw, luckily i can borrow saw or id not be working! Basically il have to buy another saw while this mess is sorted and hope husky are not as bad customer service as has been proved before!
  20. Bit of an update, so far they have said the damage is not covered under warrant, thetc huskyrep is visiting on Thurs but I'm away working so il go in Friday. Not at all happy, for me to make a hole that size in the casing I would have to lump it with a hammer.basically it seems the saw is unfit for felling big trees all day or its a manufacturing fault in which case a warranty issue so I'm going to really kick off. Just hope I ve not pissed 760 odd quid for 8 weeks of 1 saw. Il never buy a husky again, it's all a bad joke.
  21. I use ace fixing, steve used to work there was brilliant, but they pissed him off and he left, he was setting up himself with help from doug but I lost his number! hmm my dolmar 7900 was bought second hand, 2003 vintage, same day that went out of tune and would nt idle but i have had problems with it since i bought it off ebay! I got it as a test to see if i liked it and i do,would like to try a new one. I think anything is worth a go. Im not paying 700+ for an unreliable husky when there are cheaper alternatives! But in theory these saws are all built to be used commercially with a yrs warranty, if they dont last they are not fit for purpose and should be repaired. This remains to be seen however! When i did arb stuff years ago i did nt have issues as you hardly use any fuel compared to felling all day!
  22. So i buy a nice new 372xpg, I run a 20" bar and fell the big stuff harvesters cannot handle. The saw has been used 4 days a week for 2 months cutting trees double/treble its bar length. Using roughly 7-8 litres fuel a day. On thursday the oil tank caved i and spat all the oil out the front, it has a 2p sized hole in the case. Its been taken back to the shop under warranty and im just hoping that they repair it or il really kick off with husky. I thought i was buying a solid tried and tested saw but clearly its not up to proper forestry use, i think the build quality is shocking and at the expense of thinning the casing for weight savings they cannot handle proper use. I am very disappointed. my previous 560 was even worse. I will not buy another husky, had enough. My next saw will be a dolmar 7900. I have a second hand one and it been really good, feels much less fragile. I hope to get the husky repaired and sell it before it falls apart again!
  23. put 9 litres through it today felling big pine, going ok but it did go out of tune and i had to mess with it. it will do!
  24. Right i had another play with this saw, removed the silly plastic stops on the carb screws, wound them all the way in and set them back to factory setting, L one turn out, H 1 1/8 turn out, adjusted the idle and its starts, idles and revs perfectly so well happy. still a superb starter, going to give it a good hammering tomorrow

    Dlomar 7900

I have one i bought second hand, i have put a new exhaust on it as it was cracked. Its starts first pull, easiest saw to start i ve ever had but it wont idle for long, initially it idles fine the then speeds up and stops. Piston seems ok, minor scoring from use.All the plastic stops are still in place on the carb adjustment screws. Both screws are wound out anticlockwise as far as the plastic stop allows, any adjustments and it wont start. Could it be an air leak somewhere?? I would also possibly like to port it etc
