  1. Steve, i cant post on a thread using "quick reply", can only post using "quote"
  2. You could try sending jammydodger on here a pm, he's got a mill.....It maybe a bit far for him as he is in West Sussex......But worth a try.
  3. Not good mate! I'll keep my eye out for your kit. I was talking to a bloke from Bures yesterday, he told me that three farms had been done in the village the night before. These were also trailers and machinery.
  4. What is the best way of checking if a van is HPI clear, also if the van as been an insurance job, cat "c" sort of thing ?
  5. I'm not sure this is right. You should declare any work that you are doing outside your main employer if you are PAYE. Mrs egg does a bit for the parish council (unpaid), she still as to tell her employer what hours she does outside of the day job. I'm not sure if this is the "law" or company policy. I seem to remember reading up on it When Mrs egg told me that her company wanted to know if anyone was doing a second job and i think you should tell your main employer if you have a second job, paid or unpaid. But i stand to be corrected.
  6. Did the same here. Back to normal now:thumbup1:
  7. Give H.A.S a try in Bury-St-Edmunds, i use them all the time, best price i can find.
  8. That should get the log sales going jon According to the weather forcast we might see some sleet/snow in East Anglia today.
  9. It's a tough one swinny. I both use subbies and sub into other companies. As for charging for late cancellations I think it's a non starter. When i used to do the logs i could ask the subby to do a days logging (their choice). I like to think i'm a fair sort of bloke, if i cancelled a subby on the day of the job i would still pay him a percentage of his wage then make it up to him on the next job.
  10. You ain't got a passport get one, it takes a few hours at your local passport office, then get your self over there, or is this all talk ?
  11. If ya were paying what huck thinks is a living wage it's a day and a half's wages.....Get them peasant logging But in reality you can't make money at £60 a m3
  12. It's a tough one for me, my farther fought in the 2ww (he had me late in life) Seeing these young lads and lasses in Afgan breaks my heart (a lad i worked with lost his boy out there) he was 21 IIRC. Thank you to all the boys and girls that keep us all safe.
  13. Got my poppy today...Would like to show my thanks to all that have fought and are still fighting for this green and pleasant land
  14. Good luck to em, i wouldn't do it for that money....It's a back breaker
  15. No it wasn't and well you know it...ffs I can read you like a book chap, you were brought up in some sort of "Cult" that as fecked your way of thinking up...Or should i say made a working class lad think like a tory!!! I cant find the thread at the moment......But did you not say you just took the first overdraft out for your company....If ya missus was working/helping pay the bills, you wouldn't have to do that
  16. You must be joking, you neanderthal!!!!! You should be stripped of your Mod status  And i'm not joking on this one.
  17. Did ya not read this thread ? I run my own business!!! (and employ subbys) Maybe a different business than yours. But it's still business. All i'm trying to say is pay what you would want to be paid if you were employed, like i do. Profit is one thing. Looking after them who look after you is another.
  18. My missus works in the water industry......No graduate (at her company) starts on less than £30k a year
  19. Opinions are like aresholes, weve all got one...i'll keep mine if you can keep yours
  20. How long was the boot on the other foot before you took the leap huck ? I dare bet my life that there are many on here that moaned and winged about their pay before they had the guts/ money to go it alone.
  21. So like i said, alot under 20k after tax, for someone self employed. Whats ya point ?
  22. Swinny, you can't win with some people mate, if the boot was on the other foot they would be screaming blue murder!! Running a business is hard work BUT i believe in paying a fair days money for a fair days work, just like when i worked for other firms (i worked my balls off) to help get THEIR business going, and on the whole i was looked after well for doing so. Don't stick with bosses who want to pay peanuts!!! Let them use monkeys.
  23. I did read the last line of ya post slowly and carefully!!!! £500 a week does not = £25k a year, Most people have things called sickness, training (refresher days) and holidays, probably 4-5 weeks a year the lucky ones might get bank holidays on top of this (not paid if your a subby) so your £25k pales in to insignificance. I aint done the sums but a rough guess after tax would take your £25k to alot less than £20k (i'm only guessing this, not got a fag packet) to work it out on but it won't be to far out.
  24. A proper day rate for a subby A oner a day ain't.
