  1. Congratulations Anthony, I'm guessing the bore cuts went ok. Good luck with 31, keep up the good work:thumbup:
  2. I also prefer double braid splices now, was a nightmare to start but as long as I keep the crossover tight it's now problem free........usually Only done a couple of 16 strand splices but it was a real battle, and very weird having a hollow eye when I'm so used to splicing core dependant. I guess its all a learning process.
  3. Hi mate I can lend you a scabbard(15" or 18") if thats any good, no joy with the gloves I'm afraid but I thought they weren't a requirement these days. Ian
  4. Absolutely sickening, words can't begin to describe the disgust and rage I feel toward human beings who can behave in such a way.
  5. It is a very sad indictment on the police, parts of british culture and humanity, thank god they removed the double jeopardy law so at least they could be retried and convicted.
  6. Try the site sponsors on the right hand side of this page, I'm sure they'll happily put together a 'basic starter kit' for you, or at least be able to give you a price if you're not sure what you need.
  7. Just listened to it on iplayer, interesting stuff and great to hear the subject getting some air time, thanks for the heads up tommer.
  8. Can't beat that value, I was going to buy a roll of piano wire but think I'll try some welding wire first:thumbup:
  9. Yep I agree, snapped a couple myself, I think maybe it's because they're made from piano wire and a bit brittle if you pinch the bend too tight(that was my problem anyway) , I was suggesting them if he doesn't fancy going down the diy route. Gonna get a roll of wire myself in readiness.....
  10. David have a word with the guys at treeworker, they sell splicing gear inc wire fids already made up if you don't fancy making your own, Daks photos show pretty much all you need. Be warned it's highly addictive but expect some blisters along the way:sneaky2: Good luck and enjoy,
  11. Very sad news today that he lost his fight against pancreatic cancer, as most tributes have been saying he was a visionary. He will be sadly missed. Rest in peace.
  12. I payed £395/eye all in, with no hidden costs through Optimax about 15 years ago, I've just checked their website and it starts at the same price depending on the type of surgery required, definately worth consideration imo:thumbup1:
  13. Just a thought but have you considered laser eye surgery? I had it 15 years ago and it's the best money I ever spent, no regression, no glasses, no lenses, no more hassles it's bloody brilliant, plus I think it's feasible even with astigmatism. I have a few mates who've done it since, all with fantastic resuts and no side effects. Like I said just a thought:thumbup1:
  14. Very nice Drew, somebody has been busy:thumbup1: Note to self....... time to get practising again, I fear it's been too long:blushing:
  15. Hi Mick, that's a cracking steed,I've always been a roadie and not very interested in mountain bikes. I'm sure it'll serve you well mate, never ridden carbon my last bike was a Klein Quantum Race, ali alloy and ultra stiff-too stiff for all day comfort. Bought a Look 595 frameset(cofidis) last year with a view to build my ultimate road bike but had to sell to cover a tax bill:thumbdown: No experience of sram I"m afraid but read very good reports. So, a century ride this weekend? Bit of a derail but are you following the vuelta?
  16. I am addicted but can think of worse things to be hooked on, I can't function without some caffeine in me, black and strong and smooth, none of this bitter junk you get from some of the coffee chains.
  17. A couple of red bull and pro plus works for me, given the choice I'd sooner have a double espresso but that probably belongs in a different thread:biggrin:
  18. Hi Mark I use the long wire fid from Nod, I've got an old push fid that I use for measuring "fid length/short fid length" etc, the wire fid does a brilliant job, I'm a novice with "modern" ropes but am enjoying splicing doublebraid(poison ivy)-still destroys my hands tho unlike the guys that splice on you tube and make it look so bloody easy, the wand looks nice but it ain't cheap. Good luck bud Oh and don't forget the crochet hook from Nod it makes extracting the core sooo much easier:thumbup:

    Jokes???

Soon to be followed by Mustafa Plasma:sneaky2:
  20. True enough, and amongst those smaller outfits will be those who feel aggreived that they have to honour warranty issues whilst not getting the sale/profit, but honour it they are obligued to do, mind you that won't stop them "prioritising" their own customers, fair/unfair.....................?
  21. Thank god for some common sense at last. Very interesting reading, thanks for posting Tony.
  22. Thanks Craig, Very neat splices there sir:thumbup:
