Had a sobering week, one of our dogs had to have an eye removed this week, she apparently pierced her eye and was immediately blind, as a result the eye died and the vet felt the safest thing was to remove it, fair enough. Scarily we have no idea how it could have happened, everything is dog proofed at that level for that reason, including the garden. It got me thinking how delicate eyes are and how we take them for granted, I've had a few occasions where a twig has flicked and slapped my eye causing temporary damage as well as the inevitable bits of chip from saw use, thankfully no permanent damage tho, but I never climb with my visor down, only cutting. Anyway shes doing fine and adjusting well. Be careful out there guys

Thanks for the reply Old Mill, I have indeed read the RW thread and various threads on both the Treehouse and Treebuzz, it all makes fascinating reading for an SRT virgin like myself. I reckon I'd be pretty happy with either bit of kit but I feel drawn to the HH, can't really give a single reason but just seems to tick more boxes for me. I'll probably end up with both plus there is always the Unicender lurking in the background, all this and I've just got a zigzag which I really really like esp compared to the SJ but thats a different thread:sneaky2: Thanks again to everyone for their advice, I think its time to make a decision and go shopping:biggrin:

Thanks for the answers guys, I can see how it works now-I think.....having watched a lot of youtube vids on SRT it looks like small advances are still made by pulling up from below the device, its ok to do this yeh? Decision now is which device to go for, soo much choice, was gonna get a Unicender before but dithered, really like the look of the Hitch Hiker now.

I have a question, with SRTWP when moving within the crown making regular/small adjustments is there any benefit to SRTWP over DdRT, do you guys still move around hand over hand, pulling slack from below the pulley/HH/Uni? I totally get the benefit of SRTWP and the benefit of working off a static line, using a pantin on long hauls etc, I'm just struggling with movement within the crown.

Good question, my gran always used to say I'd get piles from sitting on cold or damp surfaces, I didn't believe her and I didn't get piles but I have since heard that it may be the case, I just thought it was an old wives tale:blushing:

Trust for me as well, they did a fantastic quote, they know the arb trade and the type of use/abuse vehicles undergo and included all tipper components which apparently isn't always the case. edit: just read Rich's post, not such impressive treatment but at least they dropped the renewal. This is my first year with them so we'll see how competitive they are at renewal.
